I'm started my first mini garden this year. Planted tomatoes, sunflowers and cucumbers. Tomatoes took 3 weeks to pop up. I was elated and so proud of my self when they finally showed a week ago. They were beautiful until I checked on them this evening and found that something eat them. I almost cried. I have more seeds, this next batch is staying indoors until they are tall and hardy. Not giving up yet. Thanks for all the great advice, I need it 👍

I went a little anthro crazy this year with Wild Boar farm varieties, since they’re so close to me. You and them are my tomato suppliers now - which I think do better since they’re acclimated to our brutally hot summers - it does make a noticeable difference! I’m most excited to see how the Lucid Gems and Cosmic Eclipses go, but I’ve also got old standards like your black krims and brandywine (I’m a sucker for a potato leaf 😏). I’m also growing your sweet chocolate for the first time and they seem super happy. I tried to start your magic bullets but they seem….weak and wispy. Like how a normal tomato would look if it was super damaged during transplant. Maybe that’s how they’re supposed to look? They’re constantly purple stemmed and no amount of water/soil/Neptune’s harvest has helped. I may have to give up the ghost and try again next year.

I'm in Gilbert, Arizona, zone 9b. We get extremely hot, over 110 degrees F for extended periods starting in June, so I plant primarily determinate tomatoes so that they can be mostly harvested in May-June before the big heat. I plant a few cherry indeterminate plants because they can usually survive the heat with some shade cloth.

Brijette , Your videos are awesome no doubt! I’m a pepper and tomato guy! They are my favorite crop to grow. In fact I started about 50-75 seeds this year, and I’m just a backyard gardener. Mulch and using an electronic tooth brush to pollinate the flowers helped me immensely up here in hot Sacramento. We also get windy (I’m on a second floor balcony) and found the sturdiest support, oddly, was a bamboo teepee set up. I even bought those expensive Titan tomato cages from Gardeners Supply and they got knocked over last year vs the tee pees which leaned a bit but stayed upright.

This year I'm going to plant earlier and use mulch. I live in the neighboring stated east of you and it's pretty tough growing tomatoes in the desert because they don't set fruit in the hot weather. Our garden is on the north side of our house and is the only spot for a garden. Even though it doesn't get a full eight hours of sun, it still gets hammered by the sun and I have to keep them under 40% shade cloth. After watching your video, I'm seriously going to consider installing a drip system from Drip Depot. Our plants are going to be planted in raised beds using Kelloggs. This year I'm growing dwarf tomatoes (Bundaberg, Eagle Smiley, Kookaburra Cackle, Rosella Purple, and Wild Fred), open pollinated (Black Krim, Burbank, Daifuku, Flamenco, Siletz, and Tomesol), hybrid (Celebrity, Chef's Choice, Hossinator 2255, and Roadster), and cherry type (Black Cherry, Kiss the Sky, Prescott, and Sunsugar). We have a small garden but we're trying to find a tomato that well do well out here, and hopefully we'll have better luck this year. Cheers!

Very informative video! I’m a huge fan of Heirloom tomatoes. This year I have 37 different varieties started. :) I’m in Ohio though (zone 5b), so my main focus is keeping the seedlings happy - which means adjusting the grow lights as they get taller and later properly hardening them off - until I can plant them out at the end of May/beginning of June.
