We don't think there's another artist who does sketchbook tours better! Authentic, with the real process on display- so encouraging! We actually like the no-nonsense, results oriented approach to how you keep your colors- there's a system here, but it's a private one based on habit and practicality. No artist should ever feel self conscious about a watercolor palette with evidence of mixing, a pastel box with loose fragments, or a sharpened stub of a pencil. That, dear friends, is what a productive artist's studio looks like!

Blick you alway encourage me with your comments. FIRST, thank you for continuing to watch! And secondly, thank you for letting me know you’re here. I think you’re right that my color choices are instinctual. I think that comes with time and knowing your materials. Thanks again!

Sandi, I enjoy so much your sketchbooks. It’s like peeking into your brain process. And I will say this, never let anyone sway you from what you are doing and loving. Whether it’s art or life. Take your time, soak it in. As a woman of 76 years, I wish I could tell my younger self that. This life is a mere blink in the scheme of things. I am so grateful you share yourself with us.

I've gotten more encouragement and excitement from looking at your sketchbooks and listening to you talk about your practice and your philosophy of art than any of the classes I've taken, the books I've read, the art dreams I've dreamt. Thank you so much for sharing yourself and your art. You truly have given me the confidence to just do it - and be happy that whatever it looks like is the expression of me in the moment.

I love your conversation and seeing your sketchbooks, you’re so inspiring, just what I needed to hear this morning, to keep enjoying the process, which I really do, and not worry. I also liked that you might feel a painting is not too good, so put it away, go back later and it’s like a different painting. Sometimes I can’t believe I painted it :) I don’t see your sketchbook paintings as unfinished, they captivate moments in your life and are just as they need to be. I live in England and also love to hear about your local area and the places you visit. I can be catching up on housework and painting in between, or painting and catching up on things and your videos keep me going, put beauty and encouragement in my day. Thank you so much ✨✨✨

Very inspiring to see so many subjects. One never knows when one will make beautiful sketch. I especially love all the beautiful greens that I have seen throughout and all the gorgeous colors and combinations. You clearly demonstrate how important it is to keep sketching and not be limited any what may be in front of you that you don't think is worth sketching. You show how it is all worth sketching either one time or several of the same scene and of going back and revisiting people and places.

I love how you don’t let the ‘art world’ box you in as a THIS artist or a THAT artist. You do it all and you own it. I find juried shows always want a consistency of theme, but my three best at that moment might be a still-life, a floral, and a landscape so 🤷🏻♀️. There’s real power in that versatility, because it means we can never really run out of ideas. I have so many ideas for things I want to sketch/paint, but just don’t have the time to do them all! The sketchbook really is the basis for establishing a style that transcends all themes. Your sketchbooks are such an inspiration! 😊💚

5/6/23 That was absolutely incredibly fantastic, Sandi!!!!! Thank you so much!!!! I LOVE what you said, “Practice contentment!” I’m going to make a sign with that on it to remind me of it. What a beautiful reminder. It’s like Ram Dass’ quote and title of one of his books, “Be here now.” “This is MY art journey,” is another great quote from this video. I am blown away with the magnitude of growth in your work in these sketchbooks!!! These drawings are so gorgeous, one after another! Some of them made me think, “Oh, wow! I would totally love to see this one or that one as a big DRAWING!” Others (any, really) will make great paintings. But I mention the drawing part because there is something in your mark-making with drawing materials that is so fresh and direct that would make me smile so much to see large, on a wall. Anyway, I also want to ask if when you are making paintings from these sketchbooks you are working directly from a drawing or just riffing off of them, or working from memory, etc. I don’t think I’ve ever made a painting from a drawing which now seems weird. I NEVER used to work in a sketchbook at all. All of my paintings were made without first making drawings. I don’t remember now if I joined Emma’s and Sarah’s Patreons because I heard you talk about them or if somehow I found all three of you at about the same time. But somewhere along the way I have started using a sketchbook more regularly and it has helped me a lot. (So, thank you to you and them!) I was feeling lost for a long time and also couldn’t get to my studio for various reasons so in the last year or two my sketchbook has become one of my main outlets. (I used to mostly take notes in sketchbooks.) Anyway, this is a long comment, I’m sorry, I just wanted to thank you. I’m seeing a lot of growth in my own work since following you and Emma and Sarah. I haven’t had a lot of time to do the actual Patreon work as much as I want to. But it’s coming. Thank you again for this awesome sketchbook tour. I hope you’ll get into that show!!! xo

I LOVE YOUR SKETCHBOOKS! I love listening to and seeing your process. The excitement of creating whatever it is or wherever it is - place, things, sketchbooks, etc. With my mom’s encouragement. She was a hobby artist and never wanted to sell even though she could have. I eventually opened an art gallery. I loved everything about art and encouraging other artists. When I closed my gallery after 8 years, I went into deep depression. I didn’t want to create any more. That was 2019. Since then, I found you. Your bubbly personality was a joy to watch. That’s all I did was watch - for 1 1/2 years, I just watched, laughed, and started getting a little inspired. But it was your sketchbooks that have encouraged me the most. I started going through my supplies and thought maybe I could just start with a sketchbook and pencils. Your encouragement to just play and enjoy the process - just turn the page and do another one has sparked something. You also led me to Emma and Sarah. What you said in this video about the timed drawings is true. It empowers me to let it go and turn the page. I’m still rusty but I feel like I have found “my people” that are a great group of encouragers and it is so much fun. I so much want to do your class, but I’m trying to take it slow. To not rush the process like I have in the pass (produce to sell.) To keep filling a sketchbook and then I will know when it is time. I still have a long way to go, but you have inspired me to follow a path that is just the beginning. Thank you, Sandi.
