I was watching one of your more recent videos last night and it occurred to me that your style reminds me very much of stone lithographs. Then in this video you mention vintage posters which were often made with the stone litho method. I am very tempted to try flash paints now. You are a bad influence and a fabulous enabler.

I've gone through similar boredom lulls with my project of drawing the human figure. Right around the point you are now, a couple months in, I was feeling like "this is gonna suck" but it got better. I still hit slow points if I'm not super excited about my reference images and I find that letting myself go down a rabbit hole of googling images online helps to reignite excitement when I see a photo from a particularly unique angle or color scheme. That's one thing I've discovered about myself is that my references and how I feel about them plays a huge part in my excitement to work.
@sandihester4 жыл бұрын
I think it's the norm for us artists for sure! I DEFINITELY HAVE TO be excited about what I'm painting. But sometimes I do feel like I forgot how to paint - it's so weird! Thanks for watching Lyssa - I always appreciate your support!

I so relate to what you say. I just paint and they say that I can always compose but I go through hell trying to get my paintings the way I want them. I would like to take classes with you because you are my kind of artist. Please my art is on bluethumb that sells art in Australia. I recommend you sell in Australia vie bluethumb as they are really genuine guys. My name is Mary Ann Partridge. I would like a critique. I went to college in UK with Tessa Newcomb daughter of Mary Newcomb artist. But I never painted after that and took up painting three four years ago. So I have little skills and even I dont know how I knock them up. Really its a mystery. Have not sold anything but some people like my imagination. I have no discipline like you have. But I love your approach as I dont much like the Sergentson school where its so real and perfect. Even if I took the time to learn this I dont think I would want to. And im not keen on KMart art you see online.

Did you ever make it to Santa Fe? I loved New Mexico. We rented a car and went from Albuquerque. It was so fun. We drove on "the singing road" and then took the Turquoise Trail Highway to stop and visit little things on the way like Tinker Town Museum. So weird, and quirky, and fun, and artsy. Then you'll pass through a little artist village. A town called Madrid. Its just quirky little galleries and restaurants. Santa Fe has a whole street lined with Galleries. So put your walking shoes on. I started at the bottom in Meyer Gallery to see some things specifically and then worked our way up. There is a really nice french restaurant in the area where we stopped one evening for just creme brulee but wished we had room to try more of the menu. There is plenty of New Mexican restaurants to try and they love their green chili sauce. You absolutely MUST visit the Meow Wolf Museum. And hopefully you haven't googled any spoilers about it already. You will be absolutely delighted. But I'm sure you've heard about that one already. My mind was completely blown. And even though I'm not a huge Georgia O'keeffe fan but i enjoyed seeing so much of her work in person at the museum there.
@sandihester4 жыл бұрын
We didn't make it to Santa Fe unfortunately - the lock down happened and we had to post pone our trip. But thank you for these recommendations!!! I had not heard of the Meow Wolf Museum but will definitely put that on our list of things to do when we do get to go - thank you!

Sandi your painting is so satisfying to watch and your voice soothing! Also great job on the editing--you got the whole painting process captured in only 10 minutes and it looked so effortless! I really enjoyed this video and feel inspired to create today! When you paint, do you mix up most of you colors before you start so you have a set palette, or do you mix as you go along? I loved the colors of this painting!

Friend, you always leave me to most encouraging comments! I haven't watched your latest vid yet because Grady is going out of town soon and I'm saving all my favorite KZbin vids to watch while he's gone - but I can't wait to see it!!!!! I'm so glad you felt inspired after this video - whoohooo! As far as mixing my paint - I ALWAYS mix as I go. I think the worse thing you can do is mix a big pile of paint - you get slight variations when you mix as you go which I LOVE.
