For me its personal. There are some games where the plat will take an extra 5 hours and its just not worth it and other times I'll spend 70 extra hours getting the last achievement. So long as I have 70%'s in game completion I consider it a good run but obviously the 100% is ideal.

On Steam, most achievement hunters use SteamHunters, where each achievement has a point value based on how many people have unlocked it and some other stuff. Shovelware games rarely have more than 1,000 at max and the actually hard 100%s can be in ranged of 20k-50k to even 200k points on some games, it makes it way more worth to go for the harder games

Even though I take pride in harder plats, I'm guilty of caving in for easy plats every now & than especially when I'm super stressed & just unlocking a plat feeling to relax helps. So I’m a Xbox achievement hunter and yes these games still exist on Xbox. People have over 1 million gamerscore and it’s mostly due to these games than contain 5000 gamerscore for doing basically nothing. I have 80k gamerscore and I’ve never spent money on these “games”.

Currently, I have 49 plats and only 4 of them I consider/know are shovelware: 112th seed, Theme Park Simulator, Hentai vs Evil and Dofamine. IMO, other than the sloppily made asset swaps, I consider any game that has more gold trophies than silver and bronze, or games with purely gold trophies, to be shovelware.

Shovelware games have been banned from the PS Store, you can't release a shovelware game anymore. However the old ones haven't been removed because they are prior to this rule, it would have been unfair to do so. As someone who has platinumed one shovelware game (the free one), I can't see the big problem with it, Sony is making money, the developers are making money to fund other projects, and they are providing a "service" for certain people... It isn't hurting anyone and no one cares about how many plats a random guy from Canada or Japan has, it truly is a hobby for your own ego. Let people enjoy the things they want to enjoy. If you want to be mad at companies that explore people's addictions, be mad at tobacco or betting companies.

On the other hand, I wouldn't call all games with platinum levels of 80-90 percent shovelware. I myself have platinums in games such as Gravity Duck or Bouncy Bullets, which most people consider to be a source of shame. While I actually had fun playing them, they reminded me of those old web browser games. In my opinion, a game is shovelware when it does not bring any gameplay or entertainment value and was created at a low cost only to earn platinums like my name is mayo or slade.

I also find it very weird how on playstation you can auto pop same plats and trophies for different versions like ps4/5 edition and also different region (eu/usa/asia or japan). But thats off topic. I've seen lots of these weird shovelware games trying to find short games with easy plats, i did end up finding some +- 1 to 5 hours one with actually somewhat fun gameplay that where enjoyable, so i guess there can be a good part to this.

Indie games that are actually made with clear effort are 100% better quality platinums than shovelware. Atleast with most Indie games you can have fun getting it and not just spamming a button. I've definitely got a few easy Indie games on my list but 0 of them are shovelware. I think my fastest platinum is Astro's Playroom at like 17 hours or something, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I’m admittedly one of those people who play these shitty shovelware games to make the number get big. I have no shame as I see myself as more of a trophy collector than a trophy hunter. I still have my fair share of 8/10 and 100+ hour plats, but at the end of the day it’s all about making the number get bigger. For me personally that’s what keeps the dopamine a flowing. I like maximizing both my time and money for increasing my trophy count. Wait for sales, grab like 5-10 games for $1-$2, big bang boom. I still do bigger games that I actually enjoy playing on the side, but that’s just me. To anyone who refuses to play these games and ONLY does harder/longer games I definitely respect your lists more than I do mine, but that’s okay I just like seeing big number 😛. I only pursue fun platinums.. Things like: Elden Ring Bloodborne Spider-Man The 2 Horizon games Monster Hunter World And more stuff like that. I simply refuse to play games "just for platinums" and tbf I can't understand why people would waste time and money on these shuffleware games just for the platinums? Its nothing to be proud of as everyone can see that that platinum came from shuffleware. If you have platinumed actual games. Like Souls or Hollow Knight etc... Thats something to be proud of.

Well it boils down to when the trophy hunting becomes and addiction. If one reaches this point I think they should seek help. Also many of these games are PS exclusives not seen on other platforms. I play on multiple platforms and 100% or platinum I have in a very few games. The game needs to be fun enough so I feel like, yeah maybe I should go for the platinum. But I have a lot of games often with not hard to obtain platinum where I missed one or two trophies and I do not care to spent time on getting them I just move to a next game. But to me achievements/trophies could not exist (they didn’t when I started gaming).

I think autopopping is just as bad as Shovelware, when stranded deep had that glitch I knew loads of people that would bully others for Shovelware but take part in the glitch for the free platinum not seeing the hypocrisy.
