I am a Al anon and just love listening to Sandy give his story. It helps me understand the disease a little bit more. God Bless you all.

Please don't attend meets for what you can "get." Go there prepared to "give." You'll be infinitely happier.

The tapes are like the best of AA with zero fluff or BS. You'll definitely get more out of them than meetings in terms of knowledge about the program, but it's apples to oranges comparing them to the fellowship.
@Matty_Ice6198 ай бұрын
I know what you mean. Some meetings it isn't clear what AA's mission is. Also there's some that use the podium to speak another language. Their other language is called "victimease". Most of them are dry and not working the steps. Good meetings have enthusiasm about working the steps. They make you want to read the Big Book. The members are a fellowship, always lending a hand or an ear to each other. They don't talk bad about the newcomers because they see themselves in them. Quite the contrary they seek them out to help them get in the book and steps. When asked how they are doing they don't say "just hanging in there". They talk about living and the joy Of helping others.

Right on Bob!!👏 Today’s society is not taught dependence on God like back in 30’s so some people are easily offended by “churched” people like me to their demise
@CacD47 Жыл бұрын
Does that make you special or different? We are all the same as far as alcoholism is concerned. So tuck in your shirt because your insanity is showing.
@BirdShutterbug Жыл бұрын
I have dependence on a God of my understanding, which doesn't involve going to church. That doesn't make my sobriety any less or better than those who do attend church. Practice spirituality how ever you choose but AA doesn't put demands on how each person decides to do that.

Physical is 10% of the drinking problem. If you don't conquer the physical issue you won't get to the rest of the problem which is mental, emotional and spiritual; not necessarily in that order.
@lindacarlton31543 жыл бұрын
For me to "conquer" the 10% physical, I have to take the steps which means to me surrendering to the process of recovery. Step 1-powerless and unmanageable. That's the only step I have to take 100%. Page 33 of the BB..."there must be no reservation of any kind, nor any lurking notion that someday we will be immune to alcohol". The rest centers in my mind. But once the steps are taken and we have a spiritual awakening as the result of the steps we straighten out mentally. Thank God we have a solution! 🤗❤🙏
