There are only a few groups in the world that do what Munro and Associates do. Their opinions are worth gold, even if you disagree. There are few engineers in the world that have the credentials to make their disagreements worth considering.
@FlorestanTrement
@FlorestanTrement 11 ай бұрын
Credentials are irrelevant. The arguments are everything. Credential are not arguments. Arguments of authority are not arguments. The only reason to listen to one is the lack of understanding and of time to learn enough of what is argued when you need to choose. Although it's a good trick as you can't be knowledgeable in everything. But it's always a risk. It's very unlikely to be the case for Sandy, but most "experts" and "professionals" are completely incompetent. Just look at the media or Wall Street.

@@lachlanB323 I disagree. Every new argument should be considered. Every old one should be at least somewhat doubted. Whoever doesn't will risk to be incapable of ever changing their mind when shown wrong. Coincidentally, that's one of the things Sandy tried to teach his audience. It seems that, instinctively, most people will only change their mind based on either strong emotion or the word of the person with a higher social status they like. Like kids trusting their parents. We should trust what makes sense more.

Cybertruck will take advantage of some of the new unboxed assembly method. Specifically the doors with interior trim will be made separately from the body in white. Cybertruck is supposed to have a 3500 pound load rating where the Ford Lightening only has 1500 limit. Directly because of the weight difference.
@Bora_H
@Bora_H 11 ай бұрын
The 'Unboxed' process shown by Tesla is so much more than that. Not having a paint line is pretty huge all by itself. 'Unboxed' is going to require another year to finish design and engineering. Strength is going to be tricky, and I think they didn't want to wait even longer to deliver CT. Making 'Unboxed' and 'Exoskeleton' work together will take some serious work!
@whattheschmidt
@whattheschmidt 11 ай бұрын
@@Bora_H While it may not be fully 'unboxed' I guarantee it's going to be at least partially used. 48V low voltage system means they are likely using POE connections. Those would be quick and easy to each door and so why wouldn't they assemble most of it off the line then just pop it on in an extremely limited section of the main assembly line? We know how the Austin Model Y's are made. This truck will be made with more advances than just that.

The Cybertruck is compelling. However, it also has a polarizing look. I’ve purchased several cars based on appearance, over the years, as long as they met my minimum requirements. And yes, I am a Rivian reservation holder. It meets my needs, looks good to me, and has a few cool features as well. The world would be boring if everyone drove the same vehicle, wore the same clothes, etc, etc. Sandy is great. You are too, Viking!

Nothing has a "polarizing look". Polarization is in people's heads; not in the objective reality. And so-called "taste" changes by itself, unexpectedly, with people who chose to be slaves to it. It is like with nutrition; I tell most of my friends and people I know to stop eating sugar, bread, wheat products and starches. 90% of them say, paraphrasing, "I CAN'T; (because) I LIKE IT". Slaves to taste. So they go on until they are diagnosed type 2 diabetic, and once forced to cut down on sugar and carbs, suddenly they discover they didn't like them _THAT_ much, after all ... Enjoy your Rivian for now. I got a Cybertruck resevation.

Those are also their advantages. People don't seem to realize the biggest customers of their trucks aren't the people buying one truck. They are buying 50 trucks or more. When my company orders trucks they order hundreds at a time. The box of the cybertruck is unique, but it makes absolutely no sense for people that are using it for work. If a company has hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of accessories for their fleet they don't want to get rid of them to have to buy all new stuff. The dealership network also means if something goes wrong it's more likely that we can get parts quickly and have somewhere to send the truck if our company mechanics can't fix the trucks. Also ICE won't be going anywhere for a long time. It's easier for us to get fuel shipped in when we are building in the middle of nowhere. Until we have our natural gas pipelines in and power generation up and running we are running off generators. I build the infrastructure to get the materials needed to build evs. It's some of the most challenging environments in the world for a vehicle to deal with. The phrase "the coldest place on earth" is not uncommon to hear where I'm at.

@@pin65371 _The box of the cybertruck is unique, but it makes absolutely no sense for people that are using it for work._ I don't understand. *Why* isn't the Cybertruck suitable for a work environment? Because it's bigger than the F150 box? Because it has 110 and 220 volt power outlets, plus an air compressor built in? Because at the press of a button the bed can be closed off for security? Because the Tesla bed and side panels are stainless steel and will never scratch or rust? Because there is a built-in loading ramp for heavy items? Because the Tesla has a load capacity more than 1,000 pounds greater than the F150? Because the Tesla costs less than a comparably equipped F150? I admit, those are all compelling reasons not to buy a Tesla if you are going to use it as a work truck, but I have to wonder why Tesla has two million pre-orders for a truck that can't be used that way.
@pin65371
@pin65371 11 ай бұрын
@@douglasburnside Because it has one way to access the box while the F150 has 3. The F150 hybrid has up to 7200 watts of power out of the box. I can also put a box cap on the truck that can securely store whatever I need and is cheap since millions of F150s have been built so the aftermarket support is established. The Cybertruck is for people that would buy a Hummer. The whole rust thing is over rated as well. I work in mining and our trucks arent all rusted up. Our trucks get beat up pretty good and still a running strong. We have a whole graveyard of trucks that have been rolled and hit by heavy equipment though.

The cybertruck has many advantages over the big three automakers, including Rivian Motors. It’ll be interesting though how people warm up to the untraditional look of the Tesla truck. Price will play the most important role in its success, and also range. If Tesla gets those right, plus builds a rugged truck that can handle all the things traditional automakers trucks do, they may put the final nail in the coffin.

The biggest disadvantage of the Cybertruck is the unique look. With an F series truck I have three sides of access to the box. The Cybertruck has 1. We can also put caps on the box with built in toolboxes off the sides. If I need a grinder I can just go to the drivers side front tool box and the grinder is hanging there on the hooks. If I need an impact gun I can go to the passenger side back tool box and the impact gun is hanging there and the impact sockets are stored in a pull out shelf so I can quickly find what I need. Then we still have the box for bigger stuff which we can slide in from the tailgate.

And many of them also need a ladder to access them from the rear as well. (Note the tailgate ladder options on many of the trucks) that’s why I am a fanboy for the ford maverick pickup. @@KidHorn7001I'm not sure they do understand. Someone who goes to work for GM or Ford doesn't do so to disrupt, but rather because those companies appear much as they were generations ago, with a bare minimum rate of change. The companies' pasts suggest that they think that they can put off change by noisily making some "new" technology, then saying oh well that didn't sell, and thereby make it go away. A company like Tesla actually making it work foils that, but still their focus is on "make it go away". Also that of the unions, asking the government to make it go away (as though the government is all that big a factor in what's happening; the "goal" of 50% EV sales by 2030 appears to be simply an extrapolation of what's already happening (smart that)).

from what I heard the problem with F150 was mainly the fact that people preordered the cheapest possible version. but Ford is delivering the higher tier (with the price update). Anyone insulting Sandy or anyone else for that matter won’t be worth reading or listening to that’s for sure. Sandy made a good point re the CT, he suspects it’ll attract a whole new profile of buyers and not necessarily classic pick-up truck drivers. He reckoned that many will buy a Rivian as it matches the classic pick-up spec. Who knows, but if the CT wins over the pick-up market, it will have a huge effect on the American public. In my opinion, legacy automakers face significant challenges due to their outdated leadership, engineering, and practices, as well as their existing dealership/sales setup. However, the Cybertruck seems promising, and I can see it making a big impact to the truck market if Tesla gets the pricing and range right. I get what Sandy states in his analysis. It's insightful, and he praises the Cybertruck's potential. While its unconventional design may be polarizing, its advantages, like lighter weight and improved handling, could be game-changers. The success of the Cybertruck depends on other factors, like towing capability, charging convenience, and how well it addresses market demands. Tesla's lead in the EV market and dealership-free sales approach give it a significant advantage. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen how legacy automakers respond to this disruption. (More) online ordering, maybe?...

Sandy said at 23:00 in that video that he sees these trucks will be for different markets- Rivian for the Off-Roader, the Lightning for the average construction worker, and the Cybertruck for the adventurer, they will not directly compete among them, but that eventually, it was the public who will decide who works best for the buyer. (Sandy also said his wife indicates the Rivian is the best vehicle she ever had, and she has a Model Y too!!!) But the problem with Legacy OEMs is their Leadership and PRIDE. Tesla has offered every car maker all his Patented Portfolio for them to use at will when needed, and as far as I know, NONE of them are taking advantage of this. All of them want to stay in the past and use their legacy procedures, and re-invent the wheel for their EVs, just that theirs is a squared wheel, while Tesla's is Round. Tesla has many advantages in the Business model that no Legacy OEM like GM, FORD or RAM will catch Tesla in the next 10-15 years And at this moment, regardless what my buddy at my side thinks, TESLA IS THE STANDARD FOR EVs AND THE FUTURE!!!!

The part that Tesla is saving money and people don’t think about is on labor, Tesla workers aren’t union. Ford and GM and the rest of the dealers decided to really screw the customers by adding ridiculous upcharge prices on the vehicles. I don’t understand why people would buy a 50k car with a 25k mark up. People don’t think about the you will have to pay for an additional $347 a month for the next 6 years just because the dealer thinks that the car is worth more because of demand. Now people are getting their cars getting repo or stuck with that car for a long while. That’s part of the reason why a lot of people aren’t buying anything right now. Tesla's business plan has always been to start at the high end and work down. Initially production costs are high and the volume produced is low, which matches the demand at the high end. If consumers are happy with the Cybertruck the same thing should happen with it.
