Sanji is the lesser of two evils I feel. He wants to peep and simp over all the girls but he would never assualt them or force them to marry him. He is a monumental perv and even a creep at times but in the end he is a slave to the whims and desires of all the girls and will do anything for them and they in turn know and exploit that as we see countless times with Nami and Robin. Not that that changes the fact he is just a massive perv and does a lot of sus things but it does make him the lesser evil of the two.

Fun fact: Oda *hates* killing characters off. He loves bringing characters back *hundreds* of chapters later when you least expect it. Hell, there's one or two characters in particular that a decent chunk of the fandom are *still* waiting on, to come back. On an unrelated note, that episode is a good excuse to say that there is only *one* of each devil fruit in the world. So, as long as Absalom is alive, Sanji will never get that fruit. Which is actually impressive, imo. This series is over 1000 chapters/episodes, and there has never once been duplicate powers. Similar, but never the same. That's some insane creativity on Oda's part.

Sanji makes some people feel conflicted because they want to like his really sweet and heartfelt moments, but also sweep this part of his personality under the rug. If Sanji wasn't an irredeemable pervert, he'd probably be my favourite character, but I don't feel comfortable calling him that given how much that behaviour disturbs me. I know Brook has moments of being far too forward with women, but I'm honestly much less offended by him since it's normally asked as a casual question and then he drops it after they refuse-- he doesn't push the topic, nor does he make it a massive part of how he treats people. It _feels_ like a gag for him, while Sanji's version of perversion _feels_ like creepy harassment, even though I wouldn't be upset at anyone for having an issue with both characters.

Sanji is truly a polarizing character, ones of high highs and low lows. He's had all his clutch moments of doing underhanded, smart things to undermine the villains in a more subtle way, which more often than not play key roles in their eventual defeat. But everything involving women ends up greatly hindering him and making him the butt of many jokes whenever he pervs out. He's got moments of pure coolness, followed by pure patheticness, leading to how divisive he is for so many people. I can at least say that at least this whole situation is probably like 1 of his 2 or 3 absolute lowest points in the whole series.

In terms of Sanji: Oda does recognize that Sanji is flawed by having those zombies chime in with him being just as bad, which I do appreciate. Oda has a way of using a character's trauma to give them little quirks in the story without really commenting (trying to write this in a way that doesn't spoil anything!), but I'll say although Sanji will probably get worse for you, he will get better. Stick with him!

This is the start of nearly a decade long period where Sanji gets some seriously rough treatment from the story. Like I get it, Sanji has to be repulsive to women in order for the joke of him desiring women but being completely unable to obtain them to work. He's a gentleman, he's sensitive but stoic when he needs to be, he's strong, he's cool he's an amazing cook, he's surprisingly good with children, he is quite handsome by One Piece standards, he has strong nurturing instincts, he dresses nice, and he's the only guy on the crew who bathes every day. He has a lot of attractive qualities that need to be undermined for him to not be successful with women but damn Oda him being a simp was genuinely repulsive enough, you didn't have to make him a voyeur too. Then Oda puts him through hell that makes him for a long time just so much worse. That said, he eventually rockets up into my top 3 and has stayed there ever since.

But then the fisherman saw a yellow haired kid in front of him with eyebrows that shaped like the curly waves of the sea. What a bit of a surprise when that yellow haired kid cooked and make food such as a meal of sliced grilled meat with veggies on the side, sandwiches as well as cracker biscuits, warm delicious soup, different flavored donuts, and even desserts such as ice cream, pudding, and a cake. Sanji said to the fisherman that he was the fish that he caught that day but got into an unexpected evolution leading to awakening his humanity. Then with the cooking skills that Sanji has, he started to dream to find the All Blue. The Fisherman started laughing and said to Sanji that the All Blue is just a myth and not true. Sanji was frustrated that he burst into flames and exploded with the temperature higher than even the fisherman's finest oven. The Fisherman then slapped Sanji so hard in the face to stop him or else he might melt down the fisherman's big ship. Days passed, and Sanji keep arguing with the fisherman and keep saying that the All Blue is real like 66 times a day making the fisherman annoyed and angry and keep calling Sanji a clownfish. Then one day, while they're still arguing, pirates unexpectedly attack in the middle of the storm. Led by Zeff the captain of the Cook Pirates, he commanded the crew to take the ship's finest treasure. But then the storm sunk both of the ship's and the rest is history.
