How to paint a landscape in watercolor using a loose, expressionistic style.

I paint this watercolour very loosely, and just hint at shapes and details. The location is near Sydney, Australia.
Glen Davis is a small town inside a huge canyon! 2nd largest canyon in the world, according to the interweb.
My website has the photo, and my quick sketch is there as well. You can print the sketch onto A4 watercolour paper. On your printer, just choose the "plain paper" option.

Wonderful. The values - dark & light are striking and really pop. I do like the opaque white. I'm more of an all transparent watercolorist, but the opaque white use in your paintings seems to be a hallmark of your style and I like the results.

Wow very nice painting sherly. I like you style in painting watercolour. I still always follow you channel. Can mix watercolour with white ? .i want to try that .i like loose impressionistic painting watercolour landscapes

Thankyou. If you mix watercolour with white you are making ‘guache’. Graphic designers use this for illustration, and lately it has become acceptable as a fine art medium. Although purists watercolour painters don’t do it. They often have strict rules about the use of white. Minimal use, or no white at all. Each art society has its own preferences.
