Awesome video! This is gold for those of us that model that period. And one of those last pig trains where the question was asked “is that 991?” You were right. - it wasn’t long enough and that train was most likely the Q-FRCH given all the refrigerated reefer trailers.

And if not mistaken the 991/199 were moved to WSP by this time and not handling double stacks making that particular train a Corwith train

It’s weird to see trains with full Santa Fe lash ups with zero BNSF patches

US Mail. The cars were called MHCs (Mail Handling Cars)

@@ChadsRailfanExperience why did Amtrak stop hauling mail?
@ddblink024 жыл бұрын
@@alexsmith8765 There were a number of reasons why they stopped handling freight. It wasn't as profitable as hoped, it delayed trains and the final straw was when the host railroads began grumbling about the size of the train vs. the actual passengers carried. The government mandate that Amtrak had to become self sufficient also went away, which was the impetus for the service to begin with. It's too bad, I thought they were a good idea. I can see the railroads point of view though, I once saw an empire builder with 38 cars, only one baggage car and 12 bi levels pertaining to passenger service. The other 25 were boxcars, roadrailers and a reefer.

ATSF sold them to Morrison Knudson and then leased them back as needed. They had MKM reporting marks on the cab. A couple got the small MKCo logo on the long hood
