Santana in those early days the best and complete line up everyone in the band put something valuable in their style in those early day, the organ, the percussions, the guitar , the rhythm section and of course Carlos; that changed after 1974 more or less but the 3 first albums are there to remind us that.

Hell yeah. In fact I'd say that every band member who took part in this performance was the best Santana ever had. Sure, he later hired very talented (and sometimes already famous) people but proficiency can't replace chemistry.

Yeah he sure has 'em bangin' on that piece. Chepito's playing in general was a quintessential part of Santana's unique sonic signature, just as much as Rollie's Hammond organ. I feel that Carlos was never able to recreate the chemistry of his original band later on with a never-ending rotation of personnel. At Tanglewood it was still the Woodstock band, the best vintage.

Yeah, it was Rollie that form that band, and wrote the hits, or recreated some. Chepito was brilliant. His playing was tasty but yet attack mode. He phrase beautifully on timbales and conga. His son is as good also.

@@rgr55100 One has to admit though that the name "Santana" was best suited to the band's style and it'ts likely that it wasn't on Carlos's insistence. I can't count the times I head him say "I'm just Carlos Santana the man, not Santana the band. He did accept the legacy of band leader though, so much so his name was likened to it.

WOW it's so beautiful to re live listening to a great musician Santana ..I was in Woodstock when he became famous for his performance !! Great group !!!
