I worked as a disc jockey in 1971, and "Jingo Loba" was the opening tune in my set. The good old days when musicians masterfully played their instruments, when pure voices resonated without autotune, and when there were no cell phones to distract us.

Chipito was an acquaintance of mine in the mid 1970s - got to play congas with him , on timbales at street festivals a couple of times . Man, that’s one loud experience! I own the black Echotone conga that Carrabello generally has as his middle drum . Chiptoe had about 12 congas , and EchoTones in white , red , black.and swirl patterns . They have beautiful , low & smooth hardware , very comfortable on the hand . I also have a set of timbales , I believe we’re his - but I can’t prove it - but I was there and knew him . I got to hang with them , not because I was a great player but I was just a white and a street player like them and , I guess had some “ fire “ in my playing that they appreciated . The way Chipito moved across the timbales was interesting- but traditional Latin players didn’t think much of Santana - it was rock not Latin and they played differently than more conservative trad Latin musics .

These people were born in perfect time hence they found the 70s and it was the best time for art… So a Carlos Santana is a product of good time… Unfortunately we can’t the same about us…

Sad, but true. Lucky to grow up in late 60's and 70's! Richly blessed with excellent music, musicians , Art & poetry with a solid purpose. 👍
@aaronstandingbear18 күн бұрын
@@judysutton-green This inspiration during that time was driven by the Babyboomers coming of age with the resulting romance in everything. Passion galore from this group and so art and music flourished like at no other time. it could happen again but we had the invention of electric guitars to go with our growth. The Spirit was with the people.

For me the best time of Santana was in his beginnings, Carlos mixed blues rock with touches of jazz and Latin rock, the use of feedback and the long sustain that would be his personal mark, with a Gibson SG special with two P-90s and amps that appear to be Randall Comander IImod with EL34 tubes that I later changed for the early Mesa / Boogie Mark I, this is the second lineup of the band in the early 70's....

Started listening to this badass music at the young age of 9...listened to their 1st three albums repeatedly through “headphones” -their music is so distinct, unique & INTENSE...I absolutely LOVE how all the percussionists work so well together, all playing their own “layer” of the music, and how it all works together so magically synchronistic & undoubtedly INTENSE!! There is nothing that compares to this music, Santana made their own meaning of AUTHENTIC music, pure *authentic Santana*. So diggin watching these old videos & My fave -Michael Shrieve, beat the GOOD SHIT out of those drums of his, yes InDeeD!,!!! 👍👍💜💜❌❌💋💋❗️❗️🙏🌞
