Gen Ayub Khan was suspended for six months for his cowardice( fleeing from battlefied) in Burma in WW II. He was a major then. His being a stooge of the British that saved him from being coutmarshalled and getting back his job. These are all archived. (learnt from my uncle who was a captain in the same regiment in Burma in WWII)

My family was from Chamb sector and had to fled our native land post 65. My grandfather and grandmother who was pregnant at that time fled during nightime. Grandfather used to narrate whole story during lohri when i used to sit with him.

So effortlessly, Shiv Kunal Verma defines and criticises all the shortcomings of the upper echeleons of the Indian armed forces, and the political leadership, while amplifying the glory and Valor of the common rank and file. I genuinely feel the quality of guests here is much superior to the more popular English podcasts like Raj Shamani, Beerbiceps, etc.

I was virtually in the thick of war in 1965 on Lahore front. On Dugrai front was 54 inf brigade of 15 inf div, on its left flank was one Brigade of 7inf div from Ferozepur and on the south that is Khemkaran sector 4 infantry div from Ambala was there. I was looking after Dugrai to Khemkaran where reverses were seen and Col Anand’s 4 Sikh Regt was taken POW. Facts being related are not matching that what had actually happened on that front. Even leadership stories being told differ with factual command orders and conversations. I am the eye witness of that war. Also of NEFA 1962, where this 4 inf div from Tezpur was deployed. Very unfortunately the same 4 Sikh Regt was airlifted from Ramgarh (Bihar) to Tezpur where this Regt bore great losses. I was myself there. In Goa 17 inf div under Gen Kandith again I was there. Story about chicken neck opposite to Akhnoor 19 inf brigade under 26 inf div during 1965 and again in 1971 this area was taken over by Pakistan where India used airforce sending 32 aircraft in 1965 to stop the tank advance of Pakistan though 4 aircraft’s were downed. No war book has told full truth. Only those who were virtually in the thick of those wars know the facts. Thank you dear writer.

Thus historian has inadequate knowledge. In 1962,the agreement to buy MIG aircraft from the Soviet Union was signed in March 1962 but due to the opposition of Morarji Desai the CIA agent in the Nehru administration those aircraft’s could not come to India but came in November 1962 and by that time India already declared cease fire to China. There was no agreements between China and the Soviet Union as since 1960 they became enemies.

It is wrong to say we did not have the knowledge about Icchogil canal. I had personally handed over the entire alignment of Icchogil canal with full engineering drawings to my CO in July 1965. It was duly passed on to the higher authorities and I was summoned by Command HQ (Int) to verify the genuineness of the drawings, which I did.

Yes, but whether the IAF did have an opportunity to recce the area before the actual ops is difficult to know, because this does find mention in the 1965 West Pak operation stories

You dont know full information. I was in Adampur airfield and we were not prepared for defence of Air Field no Black out and no bunkers made till 6 sep 1965.only one Mig 21 at ORP damaged and one mystery that was shell body damaged . There targets missed old Ammunition did not burst . There was pressure on Amritsar and Chaudhry told to hold back left bank of Beas . But sikh generals did not agreed that alredy we lost Lahore and now cannot loose Amritsar so they did not go back.Full attack started from 7 sep morning full night mysteres were loaded with bombs and rockets and by 05:30 started from No 1,8,32 sqdn continuously for coming days and lost 3 pilots Guha.Uppal and one more

I was there on the Wagah Border when the POWs were exchanged, on every single Pakistani soldier, SEVEN Indian soldiers were exchanged......you told the story of IAF pilots BUT what about the world record holder Sq. Ldr. M M Alam of PAF, a record still not broken??? Still, I am against this war business...the Britishers left the Indian subcontinent, and the division was done keeping in mind, "DIVIDE AND RULE" and up till now they have been successful because they did all this so that they can still come and sell their ammunition while our goal should have been the betterment of the masses / poor / oppressed people of our nations. The number of resources both the countries are spending on arm build up could have been used to elevate the standard of living and promotion of education and technology, which our former masters still don't like, as they still want to rule us in one way or the other and all this is achieved by bribing our handful corrupt leaders who don't have the slightest notion of MOTHERLAND.

No mention of 2nd Lt ArunKhetrapal who single handedly destroyed many pak tanks as confirmed by Pakistani major. A captured Patton tank was at display opp Regal cinema for 2 days. It was then removed under American pressure.

I still remember 1965 war that our doors and windows shattered at night when bombs were dropped. Lived only 12km from the PAK border. In 1971 a lot of people from our village went to Pakistan with the support of Indian army to loot.

From Prithwiraj Chauhan till now, we have not learnt the lessons of war. Wars are fought for territory and control and not for vague self respect. Indian Military and Politicians should read Kautilya and learn real politics. Even US Military Colleges teach Chanakya's writings.

Prthwiraj Chouhan had made a great blunder for India in past when gone into the tent of Md. Giuris tent in night, but left him without taking his security. Secondly he snatched the doughter of his weaker rival Jaichand, who lateron take the assistance Md. Ghouri to fight against Prthwiraj. Situation created by Prthwiraj paved way to Md. Ghouri to enter into India. If Prthwiraj had intension to merry the doughter of Jaichand Sanjutkta, he shiuld have to make friendship with Jaichand first and proceed further. The situation led by that time for Musilms for entry into India, whohad captured other parts of the world beyond India due to strong resistance of indian Hindu Kings.

First of all, the weaknesses you have listed are considered a weakness cause we don't have the right knowledge. I urge you to take the knowledge of those things and then comment whether that's good or bad. Problem in Indian ppl is they does not seek right knowledge and always look forward someone & to the west to justify our own culture which west ppl never understand and even if they understand they will never make us feel proud. In a few words, 'right knowledge' is the enemy of Indians.

1965 to jyada mujhe yad nhi , lekin 1971 ki jung ke time China ne apni army ko advance kr diya tha , mujhe aaj bhi yad he news me mene suna , ke Bharat ne puri China border me army ko lga diya he .koi bhi research krke malum kar skta he . Also my all relatives are in border areas including my family & my 2 family members was in army that time in war 1971. 1 shaheed just after war in land mines , 1 uncle live till today .

The Chinese Armed Forces were restrained totally because the USSR had threatened them with military action, if the Chinese physically interfered in the Indo Pak war . The PLA & PLAF might have been mobilized along the Sino Indian border , as a muscle flexing exercise by China.

I reiterate my query to Mr.Shiv Kunal Verma re: Gen. Chaudhry's competence, integrity and loyalty. Verma insinuates suspicions against the general and then refrains from providing any rationale, elaboration, or judgement over the general's dubious behavior lying to his PM. Didn't he deserve to be court martialled when the truth became known?

The best comment I liked is that 1965 improved India’s lost confidence from 1962 debacle. We won huge territory but foreign pressure to cede all won areas, was tremendous. Shastri ji and Chavhan were way bolder than Nehru & Menon combo, but huge international pressure to erase all gains and non-cooperating and clueless Gen. Chaudhary who was not ready to fight any further ensured all gains on the ground were lost but non one could take away the confidence gained by our forces which remains high till now. 🙏🙏

After Balakot their immediate surprising air attack on Srinagar shows superiority of planning by Pakistan.Our Sukhoi were not able to take off properly and worst of all their air to air missiles had much higher range.We had to make emergency procurement high range missiles after this incident.Just goes to show even now how unprepared we are.All top rank officers of our Defence forces are guilty of lack of preparedness since 1947.Jawans and lower rank officers are simply fodder for them.I am glad i never thought of joining Indian Defence force.Why should one give their lives for the kind of citizens, Officers and Politicians that we have in india.Pakistan has always surprised us because we are relaxed ,not bold enough and are unable to visualise plannings of Pakistan which is 24*7.

India has won decisively only one war against Pakistan and that was 1971 war in Bengladesh and that was due to help of that country. Pakistan was disconnected from Bangladesh by thousands of miles . But Indira gave away the advantages of victory & got defeated by Bhutto in diplomacy at Shimla . Shimla agreement proved our weakness & we lost all that was won .

in 1965 war we were just half an hour away from capturing Lahore. This I heard from one son of army major. When we were winning why Indira Gandhi surrendered all PAK POWs without asking back for our POWs who till date are rotting in pak camps without any idea of who they are.😰

You div Commander flag jeep at Lahore sector was captured he ran back bare foot on a bicycle, you own three star general accused him of cowardice in his book. Indian army attack on all fronts had been halted and they had run out of steam. Your army was stopped 17 mile from Lahore at the first line of defense. Indian army could not cross first line of defense. That is why they stopped.

Had the Gen Harbakash Singh been a supreme commander of Indian army during the 65 war, today history would have been different. Being Panjabi he knew the area and had dare to fight to the end. Sorry, Bengalis are not a fighter community. Shastri ji died by heart attack and nothing else. But India should have not left the areas of Kashmir as we say it is our own. No body won or lost this war, but Pak failed on all fronts or motives including Rann, and Kashmir. Salute to Indian army and air Force.

India is 7 times bigger than pak yet only 71 war was won and that's solely because there was a civil war in east pak and civil/military instability in west pak with no shared land border or sea connection unwinnable war for any country manekshaw stated that pak fought valiantly but given circumstances it was impossible to defend east pak. Pak still defended west pak front 65 was a stalemate yes pak didn't fulfill its objectives bit neither did india as the latter opened a front when headed towards lahore, after unable to vacate kashmir. So par soldiers in kashmir left the valley and defended lahore. Gen Ayub Khan mistake was to put nearly all of pak army into kashmir pak still punches way above its belt and is an impressive capable army
