I watched all of their “Oscar worthy” performances and in retrospect, they still hold no candle to Saoirse who was nominated when she was 13 and was just not lucky to win the critics’ eyes after that nomination (she managed a comeback with Brooklyn though). Emma Stone’s winning was questionable because her acting on La La Land was good but it was still lacking (her climax scene was super anticlimactic). I’m sure that even when she was replaced by another actress, that role would still be brilliantly portrayed. In other word, Emma played by the script, which happened to be a great one, and had no revolution on her own role. Even she KNEW herself that she had a lot to improve and I give kudos to her honesty and humbleness. I watched Jennifer Lawrence’s performances and she almost always played the same crazy and neurotic characters who would do anything to fight for her cause and she screamed the same way in all of them. This type of acting method can grab attention from critics but is it a consistent quality ? I bet my hat that if you watch ten more movies with her as a starring role, you would eventually get bored by her lack of innovative acting. And yet she was so proud that she thought she was on Meryl Streep’s level. Please give me a break because she is not even on the same league with these actresses: Kate Winslet, Cate Blanchette, Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams, Nicole Kidman, etc. Saoirse Ronan has been playing a lot of diverse roles an each one is unique from another (she was able to play a murdered victim and a trained assassin impeccably) with just her gaze so I’m not wrong in my criticism. Acting is more than just being pretty and shouting.

Watch Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn and you’ll know that acting is not just about screaming and shouting to score points from the critics. Saoirse has been playing many diverse roles (from murdered victim to trained assassin) and was nominated for the Oscar when she was only 13. Jennifer Lawrence would have no chance to shine if they happened to star in the same movie and I can guarantee it. I would love for Jessica Chastain to win though. Ok, I understand that women get harrassed by men a lot because they're in superior positions, but women can have superior positions too, such as in the home. When it comes to family, I see that men often get the short end of the stick. The woman has the childrens' support, and she decides how to raise the kids. "Don't be so harsh on them" when he tries to discipline the kids. The dads have to work harder. The women work, but they have the choice of staying home if and when possible. I see guys at my job who work extra hours to pay for a house that the wife wanted, because "happy wife happy life" right? I've seen women use the children against the father, because women will always have more influence on them. The dads are away earning that paycheck and the kids grow up rotten and spoiled thinking the father loves them less because he spends less time with them. In reality, even if he had the time it's too hard to reconnect with the kids when they almost always take the mother's side in any arguement.
