Great to see the Casio Lineage line getting a review. I own one and couldn't be happier. To get titanium, sapphire crystal, solar, atomic sync, ana-digi with perpetual calendar, lume, LED, world time, timer, stopwatch and alarms, and standard lugs allowing swapping bands, all for around $200 is an extraordinary value.

@@nightlore000 I bought mine on eBay from a seller in Japan. Their rating was perfect, shipping was fast, and the price was very good, so zero problems. Only downside is only a Japan warranty, but the risk is low, and so far it's still working perfectly after 2 years.

I have an older original wave-ceptor version which has always been my favourite watch, not much more you can ask from a watch, never needs a battery, virtually impossible to exhaust the solar (any kind of light) charge unless you forget about it in a cupboard, radio controlled time. digital functions and smart, tough, RELIABLE. My only gripe was the light, much better in this version, my original has a more busy dial so seeing the hands in v poor light was difficult to contrast. In my mind this is a big advantage over the earlier version just for that reason, this has a slightly more modern look but I wont give up on the older model yet.-

I have a similar model Lineage and really like it. I'm not sure there's a better value watch anywhere. Price/performance/features is just amazing. Solar, atomic radio sync to 6 world wide frequencies, titanium, sapphire crystal, LED, 29 time zones, DST, day/date with perpetual calendar to 2099, alarms, timer, stopwatch, GMT, multi-language, only 9.4mm thickness, standard 20mm lug width so easy to swap bands. All for under $200 is a crazy good value. Glad to see it promoted.

@@WatchingCasio You're right, it is the materials and design that put it over the top. Casio offers the same feature set on models under $100, but with metal/plastic cases and mineral crystals that are also thicker. Of course style is a matter of personal preference but for me the Lineage line is a real sweet spot.

@WatchingCasio
@WatchingCasio 4 жыл бұрын
This is a problem with a lot of vintage digital watches. But calendars repeat over time. For example the year 2100 has 365 days and starts on a Friday. It shares the same calendar layout as the year 1999, 2010, 2021, etc. Just set the year on the watch to a compatible year and you're fine.

Great review, I'm in Australia and just bought this watch direct from a Japanese online store. It arrived in 3 days and I think it's stunning. While the multi band time sync doesn't work down under there is an app you can get on your phone that mimics the signal and works quite well but takes a couple of minutes to sync.

I've had this exact model for over a year now, ever since I read your "Probably the best watch ever made" video. I took it off briefly to wear another watch from my collection. In terms of looks, my preference is a thin gold dress watch with a brown leather band, but I almost immediately missed having access to the day and date that the Lineage watch provides and put it back on. This watch kind of makes the thirty or so watches I have collected (and even one gift vintage rolex) pretty redundant. Thanks for alerting the world. Let us know when Casio makes a version of the lineage that looks like the classic dress watch I fantasize owning.

In the manual it says that it takes 5 minutes to recover from a single illumination operation. That most likely means few seconds of using the led to illuminate the watch. I doubt that a solar sell of that size could fully charge any reasonably size watch battery within such a small period.

Watching Casio I am really liking my Lineage. Casio also uses the 5110 module in some other watches which incorporate composite material in the lugs. The all metal Lineage just seems more up-scale. Mine weighs 117 grams, sized for my 7 inch wrist. The dial on mine is a little busier, but I like having the additional information presented on the LCDs and the function sub-dial, such as the power level.

I consider myself a huge Casio fan-- have four G-shocks and a few of their other models. That said, one of the reasons I am a fan is because of what you get for not a lot of money. All things considered, I really have a difficult time paying $150+ for one. If I'm buying a watch in that price-range, I'm probably going to go with a Seiko or Citizen... Fwiw, I feel the same about Timex. I have a few of those as well, but just can't pay $150+ for something like a Marlin or Mk1-- no matter how cool I think they are... 🤔

I think Casio is one of the world’s best watches. I had them since 1970’s. I have never had one fail. That would include the lovely model your showing. Other fine watches would be Orient and Seiko. I truly don’t know why people spend fortunes on so called luxury watches. They are not as reliable and in my opinion they look nice but so does the above brands if you want to spend for that. Take care of it and the watch will end up with your next of kin.

Good review. The perfect watch indeed. I purchased it and I am very happy with everything: The look, the size, the functions, the weight, the finishing of the case and bracelet. After more than 10years with a automatic OMEGA Speedmaster (reduced) I finally found a similarly sized watch that is always on time - and much more comfortable. The real size of the CASIO feels probably a bit smaller than it looks in the video. It is actually a rather small watch. But - as you say - for a 6.75 inch wrist it has the exactly right size. The only thing that I am not sure about is the the 5bar water resistance: According to CASIO 5 bar would not be suitable to swim. Any opinion on this?

You got a good deal for the price. I just bought the same watch (New on Amazon) but with a white dial. I paid almost $300 for the titanium version. Mine was shipped from England. The lineage model was meant for the European market if I'm not mistaken. I also have a blue Wave Ceptor watch (Essentially the same watch). Both watches have the same 5161module. The hourly chime is extremely weak though. Most people would not hear it unless it's about a foot away from their face. If I were to make this watch better, I would have installed micro Tritium vials on the hands and markers and installed a screw on back (instead of the back with a simple o-ring and 4 screws) to make it even more water resistant. I also would have made the watch a bit bigger so it would look better on a larger 8" wrist like mine. Both the blue and white versions look stunning.

I am torn between this and the sister model with the arabic numerals (1A2JF). I like how easily readable numerals are and I genuinely like how they look but this one just looks fantastic. If I had the money I would get both

Interesting that you see it as a dress watch. I got one for the same role but hated the band, so I put it on a green perlon and now it's a field watch as much as any.

How loudly does the watch tick? I'm used to digital watches and this looks like a great analog option for me, but I sleep with my watches on and can't stand loud ticking! I can't find this info anywhere. Thanks, great video!

you need to be somewhere really, really quiet or to have it right against your ear. You'll never notice it. Not surprised you cant find offical info. The casio site itself is disgracefully empty of any information about watch features. It's as if they don't want to sell anything. Perhaps interpreters are too expensive!

These Wave Ceptors are actually really tempting due to the great features even if I already own a 2000€ Swiss automatic. However, the damn timer is only 60 minutes which isn't enough for even bloody cooking let alone anything serious.

This looks like it's the closest I can get to what I want - except the silly tiny display. I asked the internet if I can has this one and it said no, they don't sell it in my country :/

I got used to the display and now I wouldn't have it any other size. Have you looked at the Oceanus line at all? Like the Oceanus ocw-s100-1ajf?
@404Anymouse
@404Anymouse 4 жыл бұрын
@@WatchingCasio Cool, thanks for the reaction. The oceanus is even harder to get here and is waay out of my price range anyway. It looks like I can apparently get the m100-tse for quite a bit more than the 200$ or some m100-DSE which looks similar, just steel. I've been using Databank 150 that's older than me for years, that's why I'm used to seeing whole date. They started falling apart and weren't the most practical anyway, so I was looking for something (way) less nerdy. I like the two displays of WVA-M650D but they're plastic glass :/

Hi, I have a quick question. What does happen when you let the stopwatch run for more than one hour? I would wish for it to just continue and start at 0 again. Is this an expectable behavior in general from watches or is every manufacturer doing things differently?
@WatchingCasio
@WatchingCasio 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure - I would suspect it just rolls over and keeps counting.
