One rule with John Farnham. Always live. The studio does not do justice to his magnificent voice.

Normally I say always do the studio version because it's the tight, perfect performance of the song and because most bands are pretty sloppy live and can never match it... but Johnny is such a freak I make an exception for him. His live is actually better Help in Melb with the orchestra is one of the best things ever recorded

Lovely reaction Sarah, so glad to see you've discovered our Aussie vocal legend. As fabulous as the studio version is, the live version with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra is mind blowing & John's brilliant slow version of the Beatles' "Help" from the same show is as well. John is a vocal phenomenon, I was one of many lucky Aussies who grew up with John's music. It's so wonderful to see the rest of the world discovering his immense talents, all the best!

Hi Sarah! "You´re the Voice" was one of the biggest hits of 1986 in Australia. The song is also one of Farnham´s biggest success in Europe charting at No.1 in Germany and Sweden. Suggestion another amazing song: "John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John - Dare to Dream" from Sydney 2000 Olympics Opening Ceremony.

As already stated by others, John is best live. His loyal touring band is handpicked from REAL musicians and fit seemlessly with the full Melbourne Symphony Orchestra..... his 3 main backing singers are world class and must have stuck with him for about 20 years. As he started in 1964 and had his first hit about 1967, John has had many careers from pop bands to solo pop idol to musical theatre etc. I am not a fan of musical theatre BUT...... I believe Johns Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar is his artistic masterpiece..... do yourself a favour and watch the live video of his performance.
