As just a 12 year old, I use Prismacolors as my main pencils however for school purposes I use Crayola. Sometimes I use both for a project I do. Both are great. I definitely prefer Prismas however Crayolas for their intentions are good.

Thank you for this tutorial. I have been working with crayola to practice and what I’ve noticed is that I had to learn to do light layers, so perhaps they are good in promoting good habits for the beginner.
@SarahRenaeClark2 жыл бұрын
I actually find them worse for beginners because they don’t lay down as much color, so they tend to promote heavy-handed coloring more. That’s just my experience though!

You spoke about paper and maybe making a video about the different types of paper and which medium they suit. I have great trouble finding suitable paper for coloured pencils etc. and so I would love for you to make a video on this topic. I cannot afford paper imported from America so I hope you are able to advise on paper available in Australia. I found this video very interesting. I have Prismacolour pencils and Steadtler Ergo Soft. Thankyou Sarah

It’s definitely harder to find good recommendations here in Australia! I’ve had the same trouble when trying to source paper for the video I talked about. In the past, I’ve always found Quill 200GSM card stock to work nicely with my Prismacolor pencils. You can buy it at Officeworks. But I’ll update you when I try some other options!

I've noticed that there are a lot of cheaper brands out there nice to see a comparison of different brands.

A budget pencil set that I'd recommend trying (and reviewing) is the Prismacolor Scholar. I have the 60 set and was very surprised to discover how good they are for their price, and am surprised that I don't hear other colourists mentioning them or recommending them more often. Out of all of the cheap budget coloured pencils that I have (which admittedly aren't very many), the Scholars by far blow the rest out of the water! Granted, I haven't tried any of the budget brands coming straight out of China these days, though I'm quite tempted to try the Brutfuner squares despite them being quite a bit more expensive to purchase in Canada. And even though the Scholars aren't anywhere near as cheap as Crayola (nothing is, really), I'd still highly recommend giving them a try, and I'd certainly be very interested to hear what you think of them in a review!

See I believe I have mentioned this before but I combine Crayola and Prismacolor for all my colorings, they work very well together in my opinion

I have a 48 count set of Prismacolor and a 50 piece set of crayola , i tend to use the crayola to lay down a base tone then build up with the prismacolors. Seems to work well as long as i stay light with the crayolas.

Oh my dear, thank you! I can no longer get out to buy my own supplies, and I did not know what brand to look for in an eraser shaped like a pencil! I have not had a nice one in years, and here you are using one at about 24 minutes in! I shall procure be forthwith.

I would like you to compare Castle Art with Arteza, Black Widow and Schpirrer Farben. I already have Prisma, Polychromos and Schpirrer Farben and though I am happy with these pencils, they are more expensive and precious so every time I have to sharpen them I feel a guilty cringe creep up my spine (especially, the polychromos). I would love to have Luminance and Pablo's however with the way I feel about using my Polychromos and how new I am to creating an eye catching composition, I think I'll hold off on splurging until I am more confident in how much experience I've gained with different kinds of pencils and application.

Broken leads ? superglue the lead back into the pencil, put little spot of glue in the hole in the pencil and shove the lead back in, five minutes upright in a cup trust me it works , done it hundreds of times.

I knew an artist who uses Prismacolor, both Premier and Scholar, she said that if you're poor(like me lol), she highly suggest Cra Z Art colored pencils, for having stronger and soft crayon-like leds, which is shockingly familiar to the professional colored pencils.

Where do you get your paper? Is Officeworks worth trying?
@SarahRenaeClark3 жыл бұрын
I find the Quill brand at Officeworks is pretty good with colored pencil. If you're wanting professional quality, I have been ordering paper online and really like the Canson or Strathmore brands - Bristol Vellum is my favorite, but it's too thick for my printer! So I use Quill for the coloring pages and the Vellum for my art that doesn't need printing :)
@catlady2563 жыл бұрын
@@SarahRenaeClark thanks! We are going to Bendigo on Thursday to Officeworks I will have a look, iv got paper from them before which is thicker but it’s very smooth no tooth so I’m guessing it was photo paper.

Teehee, cheeky Mosko 6:28 - 6:40 I don't know if my watercolor pencil colors are weak because of age (bought in 2005, lol) or because they are watercolor pencils. I'm potentially on the hunt for new color pencils (not necessarily watercolor), and seeing how 12 colors can be blended is quite interesting. I can't be sure if there are Crayola color pencils where I live, but the famous student-grade pencil brands are Faber-Castell and Staedtler Luna. I know what to buy the next time I haunt my local stationery shop :D
