Had a female friend who would phone me and never stop talking about her problems. I used to set the phone down and pick up every 5 minutes or so and see if she was still there. Gave the odd hmm or other noncommittal sound and often used the 'I understand' without any clue what she was talking about. She always went away happy.

According to Allen, he was sober for the first 5 years of filming and was a true pleasure to work with. When he got back into being Charlie Harper off screen instead of on, things went south quick! Look at him in season 8.. he looks like a tired raspy skeleton. Half of his scenes he’s either sitting or leaning against something because he apparently couldn’t even stand up straight!
