00:00 - Intro 00:40 - The Snyder Cut (SPOILERS) 52:35 - Paddington (SPOILERS) 1:18:59 - Paddington 2 (SPOILERS) 1:41:04 - Q&A 1:41:12 - Q1: I have a friend that listens to his favourite movies in the car as if they were audiobooks. I thought that was strange, but then I listened to "Naked" on a long drive and actually really enjoyed it. My question is, what movies would work well as audiobooks? 1:43:29 - Q2: What’s the most try-hard performance of all time? Someone who swung for the fences and failed miserably? 1:47:17 - Q3: Since Adam has apparently not seen a lot of movies many consider childhood classics (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, etc.) in his actual childhood, what are some of the movies you grew up with? 1:51:54 - Q4: Do you think there is snobbery in the cinephile community? What is the best way to curb it? 1:56:07 - Q5: Do you think Synder's impact could actually cheapen the power of the director, considering his auteur-antics (Changing the aspect ratio to 4:3, releasing a cut that is black and white) are just tact-on for no real reason? Since these elements have been used heavily in the advertising of the film, I'm worried that other studios are going to similarly stick on random gimmicks to their movies in post. Films like The Lighthouse or Bait (which actually use the filmmaking techniques of the past to the service of the story) could be totally swamped by random wannabes that are just trying to ape Snyds. Schaffrillas will join the next episode as a guest. His recommendation is Whiplash (2014).

Interesting to note, Zack Snyder has tried for years to produce a movie of Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead", and there are some vague similarities between the mistrust of Superman by the weaker mortals in BvS. So either the conservatives who like Zack Snyder know about that (though Armand White or any of his ilk give me the impression they're not quite literate in the background of filmmakers), or they just get the impression from his other choices of movies to direct, i.e. 300 (originally written by Frank Miller as an Islamophobic allegory), or Watchmen which was written by Alan Moore as a deconstruction of superheroes by portraying them as objectivists. For both of those adaptations (and I'm mostly just paraphrasing from Moviebob here (the liberal equivalent to Armand White)), they are very direct adaptations without much understanding of the subtext behind the stories, or even possibly a misinterpretation of the messages. The whole morally grey superhero thing kind of carries over into his DC movies, which is why he drew heavily from the dystopian "The Dark Knight Returns" for BvS. Even Adam said in his Sucker Punch review that it seems like Zack is much better when he's adapting someone else's story, and the two previously mentioned were based on mostly self-contained story arcs of their respective comic series. Man of Steel was basically an original script written by Zack and David S. Goyer (the latter also seen as kind of a hack), and being the director Zack did have some influence on the script for subsequent films (written by Goyer and the Chris Terrio (the latter of whom wrote Rise of Skywalker)).

Both Paddington movies were incredible. When I first saw them I was (understandably) expecting a bunch of Smurfs/Alvin/Trolls type pop culture and toilet humor. But I was pleasantly surprised by how timeless and whimsical the humor and charm was. I'm also glad you three enjoyed it. I was expecting all of you to hate it given how overly cynical you all have been towards children's movies in past reviews. I would love to see more kids movies like this, with a lot of heart, whimsy and actual effort put into impressive looking shots and story elements rather then overusing dated pop culture references, trendy music and fart jokes. Sadly, these movies don't always do as well at the box office (Fantastic Mr. Fox is another example) so I was shocked both Paddingtons actually made several times it's budget.

Regarding what they said around 35:30 I'm someone who loves both indie/arthouse movies and Snyder's work. My favorite movies from 2016 were Nocturnal animals, the witch, the lobster, la la land, arrival and bvs ultimate cut. My favorite movies that I've seen so far this year are the snyder cut, Judas and the Black Messiah and Another Round. I like Snyder' because of the tone and style of his movies. I like how seriously he takes these characters as opposed to marvel where everything is portrayed as a joke. I like how his characters have real struggles while also being portrayed as larger than life gods. The dialog for the most part doesn't really both me, I mean its not like tarantino level dialog but I don't think its horrible. Also I personally feel that his dc movies do have several interesting thing going on thematically that many seem to ignore. Most of all I like how a director with a unique tone/style is able to work on major superhero movies, it makes them stand out in a way . His dc movies are my favorite things that he's done but I also think that 300, dawn of the dead and legend of the guardians are solid entertainment and watchmen of course is amazing. Are his movies perfect, of course not but they are way more interesting and for me entertaining/emotional than most of the blockbusters hollywood puts out these days

They should have made a movie solely to bring back superman, then make a second Superman movie and call it “Man of Tomorrow”. He uses the black suit throughout the entire movie until the end, where he opens his coat and shirt to reveal the classic suit, like in justice league. Then make the solo movies for other characters, THEN release Justice League. But for what we got, I really liked the Snyder Cut. Yeah, it's not a great movie, but I still enjoy it due to the emotional moments and character development.
@Fredomato3 жыл бұрын
Emotional moments? Like the shot with an empty seat where Cyborg's science dad should have been, but he was too busy to make it to the game? It's like something out of a parody.
@Everik-ct6pg3 жыл бұрын
@@Fredomato I mean the things like the flash time travel scene, and yeah, that moment with cyborg's dad too. Just because it's cliche doesn't mean it doesn't work as a moment. Also, Martian Manhunter's appearance made my dad really happy, who was watching the movie with me. He's a big fan of DC, and seeing him freak out with pure excitement when John showed up made me happy too.

There's a well-documented cognitive bias called "anchoring," in which an individual's behavior/judgement is influenced by the presence of an established reference point or "anchor." I believe this is what Adum was getting at when he was discussing the unusually high praise given to the Snyder cut.
