I have been following Sartorial Talks for only about a month now but you guys are so inspiring. I'm a bigger guy that has struggled for years with my self image. I love to wear suits and dress clothes but my weight fluctuates so much and it's hard to feel confident in what I wear. Just in the last month I feel so much more confident with knowing there is a community of people that care about looking great and knowing that there are others out there that want their wardrobe to be what speaks before they open their mouth. Thank you for all that you do, Hugo. You are an inspiration and I can't wait to own my very 1st bespoke 3 piece suit someday. Thank you!

If you are like me then you are working with a budget and may need to buy your items piece by piece. I would start with the shoes, then jacket, then the rest of the suit. You mentioned your weight fluctuations, a tailor can add adjustments and even different materials to make you comfortable. A suit is not only to look good but you should feel very comfortable in the suit in every element. How you carry yourself with posture is important also. Again, good shoes will change your life and is the foundation of your wardrobe. Best wishes to you and good luck!

This blue you wore for the interview looks stunning, Hugo. Love this colour. It looks so refreshing and positive among all these dark, at best dark blue or grey suits I usually see. Suits you very well. As well as I love your detailed explanations why and how you chose what for your personal suits style, how much it was etc. and ... that you didn't intend to lecture anybody. I think that was very important to emphasise at a certain point as well, since the Latin maxim goes _'De gustibus _*_non_*_ est disputandum.'_ . Unfortunately it's often misinterpreted or even wrongly translated and many were taught or seem to understand that in matters of taste, there do could be disputes. Thanks for clarification and ... your inspiration. ;)

Looking forward to buy something from Loake or Herring thanks to your video about best shoe brands. Also I have found in my city tailor who is doing made-to-measure shirts. My sartorial journey began when I moved to Hong Kong in 2007 with bespoke suits by local tailors. You get what you pay for. Then I discovered ready-to-wear by Ring Jacket before going full tilt boogie with MTM and bespoke Orazio Luciano, Huntsman, Dalcuore, Cifonelli and most recently Sartoria Yuki Inoue. It is an expensive hobby, but the upside is I work out more at the gym so that I can keep wearing these pieces of art and, most importantly, I get compliments from the smart ladies at the office :-)

Many thanks. Suits always stored in suit bags (with zips) to avoid moths and coats hanged on proper hangers (with thickness on the shoulder to maintain the shape of the suit). Shoes, never on the floor (they need to dry and breath) and always put on woods immediately after removing them. With these two simple gestures, you'll multiply the life of your shoes by 3. Dear Andrew, I'm afraid we'll not be able to dedicate a full episode to the Ascot, but we'll probably include it in an episode dedicated to neckwear. An Ascot is more discreet than flamboyant. I got it a week ago, and today I am going to ware it for the first time. Amazing. My question to you Hugo, if you can find the time, is about lapels. I am very happy with the suit, but wary about the lapel. I wonder to what extent 'brakes' on the lapel is acceptable when one sits or moves around. I understand that there will always be a 'brake' if you sit down and haven't opened the jacket(which one should not do, always open when sited I hear), but if the jacket is closed and you move around and there is 'brake' in the lapel, is this normal, or a problem that a 1000€ suit cannot take into account, and only be avoided if one goes bespoke? Or should I ask for refitting? (I am not sure what to call the 'brake', it is like when the lapel does not fall smoothly down, but sometimes 'folds' or 'brakes' or 'spikes outs') Again thank you, may God's blessings be upon you and Sophia!

Dear KL, I'm not sure what you mean by a "brake". At first I thought you were talking of a small X in the region of the functional button, which is totally acceptable (and even good to have, as this little (but controlled) imperfection adds a little flair to your suits). But after you speak about lapels. So I don't know, but according to what I read, you should definitely go for a refitting. Best of luck ! Hugo

Yeah, I'll get a refitting, it's a minor thing. Sorry I can't explain better. It's a beautiful suit, so that's great. Looking forward to the next videos! Thanks for reply! :-D

Hello Hugo, great video ! Where do you get your shirts and ties from ? :)

Most of my shirts (and especially this one) are from shirtmaker extraordinaire MAROL in Bologna (with in this case a Carlo Riva fabric). This tie is from Seven Fold Firenze (it's a bespoke tie). Cheers! Hugo

Hugo I enjoy watching your videos, I too have built a wardrobe much the same way you have. I have also found that buying clothes can be addictive or seems that way. My taylor once told me that he only has three suits and a sports coat he said that's all you really need. I reminded him that yes that may be true but it's people like me that keep him in business, he just smiled. Back to your videos I thought I knew a lot about dressing but I have learned some things watching your mesmerizing way of talking thru your videos. PS were you a preacher at one time 😁Ciao.

Good evening Hugo and my dear friends. I would also like to share my personal sartorial journey up to now. A.2013-2014 cheap fused suits from yoox B.2015-2017 suitsupply.i would like to thank suitsupply because they really kind of introduced me to some sartorial details i was missing(canvassed jackets,working buttons). From 2017 the idea of having my first bespoke suit was really growing in my mind,but there was an objective problem:here in Athens there are not many active tailors!i discovered that they presented a product like bespoke,but in fact it was made to measure and costed really a lot.i tried to have a suit with a tailor,but i was a disaster.it really destroyed a wonderfull chalk stripe,royal blue Amadeus dormeuil 365 fabric!that happend in december 2017.after that i was really dissapointed and frustrated,almost really sure that i will never happen!and then out of nowhere i was introduced to my tailor: a master of his craft,but in the same time humble and affordable!!!i have already made 5 suits with him!the first time i wore my first bespoke it was a revelation.i totally relate with what you said about the first time you wear a bespoke:it is impossible to wear a ready to wear suit!since then i have established my personal style:wide peak lapel(11.5-12.5 cm),ticket pocket,lightly padded hacket with roped shoulder,colour thread in the 5 working buttons,,single pleated tapperd trousers with side adjusters!i was thinking of trying a spalla camiccia shoulder in my next suit!thanks for listening my story

@@SARTORIALTALKS one question please Hugo.i am going to make a bespoke three piece suit(i will give the three piece a chance as you say).should the lining of the jacket be the same as the lining(the back)of the waistcoat or it doesn"t matter?
@sartajturja5 жыл бұрын
@@giannismarkos2097 I'm no connoisseur, but felt like I should chime in, pardon me for that. It usually should be the same lining. But that rule can be broken (if you think that the lining of the jacket is too loud for your vest)
@giannismarkos20975 жыл бұрын
@@sartajturja always glad to have good conversations with polite people.that is exactly my problem.the lining of my jacket is paisley and i don"t think it will look good fot the vest
@sartajturja5 жыл бұрын
@@giannismarkos2097 in that case, I think you should go for something muted for the vest. But it still should be tasteful. I remember a three piece mid grey suit made for my friend where the lining was a bit funky, but he went for a different muted rust orange/reddish color for the vest, and it looked fantastic. I mean you don't really want people to keep looking at your back when you take off the jacket indoor, do you? Haha Cheers.

That Cifonelli double breasted suit is absolutely outstanding! I think movies like the "Kingsman" series are trying to bring the double breasted suit back into vogue, but something about the fit of their suits in the shoulders doesn't seem quite right. A little too square-ish and boxy. I'm guessing they weren't bespoke, but I have to check on that. But whoever did yours did an amazing job
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
I think they were bespoke but maybe I'm wrong. Cifonelli did most of mines (I have a lot of DB's!!). Cheers! Hugo

Mr. Hugo, could you let us know who makes good quality bologna construction shoes? I would appreciate that. Your knowledge is far on shoes are far superior than others I have seen.
@SARTORIALTALKS5 жыл бұрын
Hey Megan, Bolognese construction produces very comfortable and flexible shoes (the technique is called the "sachetto", literally the "bag"), but also more fragile and delicate shoes. The Italian are the best for this specific kind of construction. Testoni, Santoni. Hugo

You made me stop and think, I need to evaluate what I have and get 1 bespoke suit made. I live in far west, TX so I think I will need to travel to Dallas or some other major city to find a good maker. If any readers can recommend somebody I would be thankful. I have started on my journey and will consider the summer suit as one to get. I really liked that blue one with the Chevron pattern and the Prince of Whales pattern. I really want one with peak lapels and double breasted. You are very inspirational!

Fantastic. The aspect of quality tailored clothes that I am most attracted to is the thought and investment that goes into it, making it more than just an article of clothing. As you say the choices you make during this process are a stylistic statement, and I feel like a lot of men today are either afraid to do that, or simply do so unintentionally without being completely conscious of what messages they convey.

That's absolutely correct. Cheers, Hugo
