You shouldn't use a light for a leopard gecko, at all. Their eyes are really sensitive to light, so it just hurts their eyes and stresses them out. I had a light on mine when I got her for awhile. She wouldn't ever come out of her hide when it was on her. Literally as soon as I switched to a under tank heater, she started coming out and exploring and became alot happier. Plus you honestly don't have to replace an under tank heater hardly ever, but you'd have to replace the heat lamp's light bulb fairly often.

First, that's not true. Only the Raptor morph of Leopard Geckos are sensitive to light as their red eyes are reflective. Second, stop trying to act like your sooo smart because it is SUPER annoying when people try to act like they know it all. Nobody likes a know-it-all. That's not the way you get attention.
@aaadindon42576 жыл бұрын
They need light to know when to wake up I swear. Like a soft light just to let them know when it’s night and day. I’m probably wrong 😂

Reptile Carpet is fine for leos (that's what I keep mine on). It is possible for the reptile carpet to become a little stringy so if you see your gecko trying to walk and it gets it's foot caught in the strings, that's a good indication to take that one out and get a new one. I also noticed with my carpet that one side of it isn't as stringy as the other so you could flip it over too. :) Hope that helped!
@dillondamuth535411 жыл бұрын
you're fine just feeding mealworms in general. I've fed mine mealies for a long time now, with the occasional crickets, pinky mice, and super worms to keep diversity and they're doing great

Had a leopard gecko in a terrarium with sand substrate. It ate sand when I fed it crickets and died of internal bleeding. Forget the sand if you're serious about owning reptiles.
@CoolJJism12 жыл бұрын
Nowadays there is "Calcium Sand" which actually is not sand, but powdered Calcium carbonate. It is supposed to not only not cause impaction, but provide extra calcium and soft, "sandy" surface for geckos to talk on. Check out my vid. I have also added two flat rocks that can easily fit 3 leopard geckos each for basking/give them an alternate surface.

Great explaining on what they need. Sounds simple enough to care for them. I have the powder, I have turtles at the moment and I can't use the powder for them, so I have to spray their food. I could use the powder for a gecko then. I wouldn't have to throw it out.

The paper towels will NOT catch fire because the heat mat will not get hot enough. I do not know what the temperature is for paper towel to combust but it is much hotter than what a heat mat can output.

Not using surge protectors doesn't make sense as if you're trying to prevent a fire there's a fuse built into them that takes the sudden increase in voltage so the device doesn't, meaning less risk of fires vs socket.
@dillondamuth535411 жыл бұрын
if it is larger mulch you should be fine. Just keep an eye while feeding to make sure it isn't swallowing it (they typically will realize and spit it out)

Please do not use this advice. It is very bad. They live no where near sand. They live on hard packed dirt but mostly rock. It is VERY bad for them and is fatal. Heat lamps stress them out. Heating mats are best. Please do what's for these animals and do not own them if you can't properly care for them. Many scientists and vets who really care about these animals have proved it. If you were going to be shut up in a small box wouldn't you at least want proper care? Not half ass. I'm sick of people commenting about inadequate care for these animals, you are only making a fool out of yourself. If you claim to be a professional than actually properly care for these animals. There is literally no argument! Facts are facts!

+Virgoline +Riley Corkery most members of the Eublepharidae family dwell upon dry temperate zones, and are allowed to do so by "adaptations". The evolutionary origins of this family said to have had their most regulated allostasis in areas around 30 degrees North latitude. Majority of its' derived genus are situated in south-western Asia (Middle-East). These are deserts.

@Mrhackgrech No that size is not bad for one leopard gecko the main problem you might have tho is heating it and maintaining a warm side and cool side & the humidity. But as long as you can control the heat/humidity you should be okay. You might want to add a lot of vertical climbing things/plat forms but try to save as much space as possible.

Don't use heat rocks! They have been known to over heat and burn the animals stomach and feet. The lamp would be better as it's connected to a thermostat (it 's the most important piece of equipment ) this way it can't over heat. A heatmat is better but the lamp is second option
