An edit to what I said about the biphobia: I was specifically talking to/about the people who say “I’d never date someone who’s bisexual” bc “I’ll get cheated on” assuming bisexual people want to be with everyone and can’t be monogamous. If you haven’t heard that before, srry to tell you. I’ve seen and heard too many people say it and it’s annoying. Srry for the confusion, should’ve specfied.

That’s not a phobia tho. It’s like saying I won’t date a bartender or a musician. Is that a phobia?
@fangal12

@@rachael8078 phobia just means an irrational fear or dislike of something so is your reasoning based on rationality? For example if your reasoning is I don't date musicians because their income and schedules are inconsistent, that's rational if it's because you think musicians eat souls that's irrational

The thing with Steve it's he couldn't accept that Miranda wasn't ready to have a baby and kept pressuring her. I really liked them together but as time went on it showed how childish he can be.

The thing about Carrie during episode 3, she’s forced to face her biggest insecurities in Natasha. I’m sure we can all relate. Every now and then, you meet someone who just makes you feel like the smallest, most insignificant person on earth. They represent your big (pun intended) weaknesses and you feel powerless against them. You start to behave irrationally to try and prove something to yourself (or maybe the universe). But they’re just so effortlessly perfect that it only makes you feel worse. If you haven’t experienced that yet, it’s truly a humbling experience. It’s the type of jealousy that eats you alive, turns your stomach, and literally consumes every positive thought about yourself. It *will* drive you crazy. They portrayed that perfectly in this episode which I’m very grateful for.

I’m with you: Aidan(spelling?) looked so good in season 3 with the longer hair and the rings. I’m probably biased because I love when men wear rings but I preferred him with this style rather than in season 4. I also loved the moment Charlotte and Carrie have when she tells her to start thinking how would Natasha feel if she knew about Big cheating and stop focusing on how she (carrie) feels about it.

I guess I'm the only person who didn't like Steve. he was so annoyingly pushy and took forever to figure miranda out even though she was very straight forward w him. Like he's living in her place and barely holding on financially but wants to have a baby?? then gets upset when she says no? same with dog. he was one of my least favorites in the series, but got much better during the movies.
@goldiegrace

For me it’s not that bad that he holds up less financially than her because A) she’s a lawyer and can comfortably provide for the both of them and B) because Miranda herself doesn’t care about that part at all. But what she cares about is also my biggest ick with Steve, it’s as you also said the fact that he‘s pushy and childish. Who wants to get a fucking kid when a relationship doesn’t work out??? Only people who have no idea how much work and what a life-changing challenge kids are 😂 dumbest idea ever. And even getting the „baby light“ aka the puppy was so shady of him because he basically emotionally blackmailed her after she said no before. Man I hate this man-child with a passion 😂 he could have been such a great character if he was mature and laid back but he wasn’t, the show just made us believe, another „tell but no show“ problem :(

episode 8 made me realkise that actually samantha is quite insecure about men despite her sexual experiences and her fuck men attitude. it made me realise that she does feel what other women feel like in regards to age and in that episode she sleeps with a dude she's not even attracted to just to appease that insecurity of feeling attractive at her age- or feeling like shes too old to attract men she finds handsome. i always feel bad watching this episode for this very reason and quite happy her period comes before she actually finishes anything with that guy.

The bi-phobia in the entire series ( along with the Trans-Phobia) is so interesting to me . Especially, when compared to AJLT . I agree the commentary is a sign of the times however, I was always annoyed at how closed-minded Carrie was when it came to having these conversations. Carrie claims to be a "sexual anthropologist" but she's more of a lifestyle blogger. Lastly, the black fetishization episode is so hard to watch because of its superficial nature. Granted, I'm not expecting a show like SITC to have the cultural awareness to talk about interracial relationships but still this episode was cringy and you can tell the writers room was all white....Sidenote, I love your SITC Reviews, keep up the good work!

Hello hello srry just seeing this, I totally agree Carrie is VERY vanilla and yet claims to be this “going against the grain” type person when in reality she turns down things that I wouldn’t even consider to be “risqué” it’s so odd. Like it seems like Samantha should’ve really been the lead considering her stories are generally the most experimental. I feel like if they’re gonna have black characters (WHICH THEY SHOULD BC THATS THE REAL WORLD) they need black writers. And they need to stop trying to make racist jokes through black characters by getting the black character to make a “joke” about black culture. It’s so obvious and corny atp. I could go on and on about this for hours about how these shows can stop receiving negative feedback and obviously there’ll always be negative comments but I mean like from entire communities, the solution is so simple and they (not just SATC) keep missing the mark. It’s disappointing.

@@kierralovestv the only reason I give SATC city a pass for not being “diverse” is due to the circles that women associate with . We all know NYC is melting pot of many different races & creeds . Watching episode 4 as a bisexual, trans woman was a fucking trip lol 😂 It was definitely a tough watch and idk… I feel I got big whiplash from Carrie being biphobic. Like the sex writer has a problem with a bi person? Like if they wanted to explore this, they could’ve had Carrie be the one who’s fine with Sean, but have her friends question it and this leads Carrie, like in the episode, to question it; however, towards the end, yes have Sean and Carrie break up but find some way to have Carrie understand Sean or at least confront her own biphobia. I get this show is from the 2000s and it was a different time and all that, but it honestly would’ve been ahead of its time in terms of addressing the issue of biphobia.

Been enjoying your reviews on the seasons so far. A thought on the biphobia. When I was a little younger I thought I was bisexual because I could be attracted to women and even made out with some with an offer of a relationship that I turned down. I'm married to a man and looking back I think I was more "bicurious". I think you can be initially attracted to either sex but what happens if you end up with someone of the opposite sex? Does that classify that you were straight? Or if you end up with the same sex, were you gay all along but just wanted to make sure? There are just a lot of questions that come with exploring bisexuality. Especially as you grow older with more experience. Yeah there are definitely people who think a little strangely on bisexuality that the person will cheat no matter what. I think it's more of a fear/insecurity that they will never satisfy the person because what is the "preference"? Is it the hot dog or the bun(if you get what I mean) I would love a conversation with a "confirmed" bisexual on the subject because it's the same with my friends with having "dabbled" in the same sex pool but ended up with the opposite for marriage. I personally loved the trans story with samantha, that was hilarious when she threw the water at them and they egged her house in retaliation. I didnt see ANY phobia personally. There are trans escorts and I think samantha respected them 100%. She was just upset when it was messing with her sex life. I loved that she threw them a party to make up. But yes, Carrie's accent was major cringe and the escorts asking for more was really weird. The hate for carrie you mentioned I 100% agree. I've always thought it's because shes flawed, people can easily hate on her. But we are flawed as humans and make stupid mistakes. We obsess over stupid things or make bad decisions without thinking of future consequences. That's life. The only thing I dont like about carrie is how it seems like she NEEDS drama in her life to make it interesting. Granted, we wouldnt have a show, but still it can get a bit vexing. I hated that she told Aidan about the affair before Charlotte's wedding. She was already running late to her friend's wedding which was really rude but then drops that bombshell which could potentially ruin Charlotte's wedding. Why couldn't she wait until afterwards? It was really self centered. Cant wait till season 4 😁 samantha and richard. Charlotte getting more naughty. Miranda and Steve getting pregnant. And my favorite carrie inviting Big to Aiden's country home 😖

I hope you keep doing these videos. As someone who binged Gilmore Girls AND Sex and the City during a low point in life, these shows hold a special place in my heart. Also I agree with the whole cringey blaccent and the episode where Samantha was dating a black man. I don't even watch it! I don't recall Blair Underwood getting that same treatment when he was with Miranda later on. Things like the biphoia, transphobia, and blaccent where hella cringe! Not that I'm justifying it at ALL, but I always remember how it was written during an era where those things were seen as "funny". I didn't think they were funny then OR now. But of course they wouldn't be caught dead saying that crap now LOL. Also on an unrelated note, have you ever watched the show Fraiser? It's so good! Don't be fooled by the stuffy old white dude in a suit thing, the characters are all actually hilariously ridc!

I’m definitely doing the rest of the franchise. Also yea I understand the time was different and exactly when Miranda dated a black man I didn’t get the same icky feeling bc I don’t recall her mentioning anything about him being black and it felt alot more like she was genuinely attracted to him in the way she’s attracted to the other guys she’s been with. And I feel the same I turned to Gilmore Girls at a very unfortunate and stressful time period in my life it brings me so much comfort. I haven’t seen fraiser but maybe I’ll check it out at some point.

I was literally cracking up at big the other day watching some reruns. It was "Carrie likes a jazz man whhoooaa jazz" lmao. We all take this show seriously as women and I love tv and I get so into it, however it is just tv and we can laugh! He is funny af! I also die laughing when shes making up all her drawn out theories in her head, and its not that deep and then he just simply answers the question plain and simple lol She said well why dont you leave some of your stuff at my place? And he says "cus I dont wanna leave stuff at your place." lmao Like hes a dude, he dont need to. She was bogus in the bi thing because it wasnt like she felt insecure for any reason, she straight up was like giving vibes like she was grossed out and automatically thought all those people were "weird". I LOVE Miranda and Steve so much. That is the one thing I dont love about Miranda past and present, she always makes problems where there are none and it seems like she has a compulsion to always feel like she needs to be anti-tradition and convention. Like Miranda you can support unconventional relationships and situations without feeling like you cannot be in a traditional and or happy relationship. The way she ruined the marriage in the present, if that was a man who did what she did the viewers would lose their minds.

Thank you so much for this video! Once again I enjoyed it so much, especially what you said about Sam and Charlotte AND THE HORRIBLE BIPHOBIA AND BI-ERASURE…! Yikes. So impossible to watch these days. However I completely disagree with you on Steve. I‘m a certified Steve-Hater. He’s such an irresponsible kid and perfect example of a guy who wants to get a baby because he wants to play football with them (and doesn’t have the slightest idea of all the responsibilities and issues it brings). Even when they got the puppy… he called Miranda right off work and she traversed a big city like NYC in her lunchbreak because he impusilvely wanted to get a puppy (right here right now)?!? That would have been my last reason (and I love dogs). And yes, I get it, Miranda is notoriously stressed and I see your point of her being too critical and also finding issues where originally there weren’t any but especially in the case of Miranda‘s and Steve‘s relationship this has such an icky gendered dimension to it in my opinion because Miranda clearly has to shoulder the entire mental load of it alone, since Steve doesn’t do shit apart from watching cartoons and telling her to relax a little. He leaves her completely alone in running the whole thing, and then tells her to not be so stressed…? I would flip. And all that from a dirty and gross dude who can’t even wipe his ass like wtf man just grow up please 😩

In the episode where Miranda has the STI the conversation between she and Steve wasn't intended to be shameful but there is one thing that she said that was utterly horrible. She told Steve that only men are carriers and it seemed as though the message was only women spread the infection but men don't. Although it was a man that gave the infection to her.

The thing about SATC and its "problematic" episodes.. What I've learned with time - after rewatching this show at least 10 times is that you gotta try to view it from their perspective. I mean yeah, they're biphobic, transphobic and racist but that's because they're supposed to be these privileged white women living in NYC and all they want to do is exist inside their little bubble. So when something (i.e a bisexual man) comes along and breaks that bubble they don't know how to handle it. Does that make sense? At least that´s how I view it now as an adult, and it's actually quite entertaining once you see it from that point of view. I mean I love these women but they're so fucking naive it's hilarious. Because the thing about the bisexual guy is that I don't think (and im saying this as a bisexual person myself) that his portrayal was offensive, it was pretty natural, they way he goes ".. and then there was Marc..", so the episode doesn't really focus on the fact that he's bisexual - more so how Carrie can't handle it because it shatters her view of HER world. Sorry if that doesn't make sense haha!

Well with the biphobia thing: I dont know wether my „fear“ is validated because Iam not bi but I would be scared that I could not give the other person what they need since I will never be a man and at the end of the day thats a part of the thing they are attracted by. But it wouldnt stop me from dating that person nor would I assume that they turn around and cheat but at the end of the day I would be scared that what I could give isnt enough. But I guess thats only my fear because of my own problems/insecurities.

Episode 2, I can say that there’s no way the writers were trying to be edgy by showing biphobia in all of the characters - biphobia WAS the culture at this time, and so was homophobia, especially with regard to men - so nothing about this felt like anyone was pushing boundaries unfortunately

I totally agree with how episode 5 just set me off the entire wrong way. The only time that any one of the girls actually dates a black man, the whole relationship is focused on him being black. Like, I don’t think I would feel as uncomfortable if I saw more mixed relationships in the show. But there is hardly any love interests of color.

No, actually this season made a Steve hater, they had just recently gotten back together and he already wanted a child, and Miranda is someone that has expressed many times not being the most maternal one, I just felt like he pushed her too much And the fact that they were barely able to take care of that dog, and Steve wasn’t that much help let’s be honest, specially because Miranda was already comprising by letting him get the dog in the first place The part we’re she does his laundry and it’s clear he doesn’t have good higiene was disgusting I’m sorry, I would’ve killed him He becomes so childish and unbearable this season, like I get they both have different personalities and yes Miranda is guilty of occasional self-sabotaging, but Steve doesn’t respect her space, he’s giving out her house number to other women, I loathed him On the other hand, I also cried when she went to cheer for him at that basketball court, but I was still glad when their relationship ended (he was way less annoying the next seasons)

Thank you! and it kills me that Steve even said out loud that Miranda needs to find a man on her level. He makes his way back into a relationship with her and shows that he is still NOT that man. And I think that a lot of viewers like Miranda and Steve bc it reminds them of their own relationships with their big a** man child partners. Miranda by no means is a saint, but I wish they would have ended their arch with the season for good. Esp since now their divorced anyway.

I know her world values can be challenging but I think she's supposed to be there for viewers that weren't as sex-positive when this was airing. I find her stories to be the most compelling because she has the most opportunity for growth.

I went in thinking I’d like Steve and Miranda together… but I do not. He was the one who left her first bc he felt he couldn’t measure up to her, then tries to be friends with benefits then into relationship again and lowkey vibes that it was more on her than him of that result, he helped challenge her but I’m not sure he was. He moved himself in. Tried to force thet dog or baby situation which was odd to me considering where they were at in life. Ppl said Miranda was so mean to steve but at least by end of season 3. I think he’s the one doing the most and she isn’t that bad usually she gives in or tries.

2:24 I agree! I've never felt some type of way about a bf/gf's height either, I don't think it matters that much. (I'm 5'8" btw) It's definitely an aesthetic thing that ppl tend to hyper focus on when it comes to dating even tho they could be missing out on the love of their life just bc they're short (i.e. Toni in the show, Girlfriends - I know she eventually marries her short king but she ridicules him about his height soooo much during their marriage...it's sad)

I loved the friendship between Charlotte & Carrie, too! And, yea, some elements and entire episodes from this season didn't age well, especially the "conquest" episode, and Carrie's blaccent. It makes me cringe as much as Charlotte's chin-kissing date! "EWWWW!!"😬😂 I was just thinking about how much money you could make if you reacted to Buffy, lol, so the SMG mention was timely! Idk if you've seen BtVS, but you could react to the episode "Hush" for Halloween. It's one of the scariest episodes and the only ep. to win an Emmy. Great review!!

I plan on reacting to way more shows and movies once I get a better set up it’s so many things I’m dying to make content on I’m just still in that beginner no real equipment stage 💀 & yes I agree I hate it I try to be understanding in the sense that maybe back then white writers didn’t know how to properly blend two cultures without it coming off as disgusting as it did. But even now, they don’t write black characters mixed in with white characters that well. I’m sure there’s some decent examples somewhere but it just really annoys me.
