SatNav - How does the TomTom Start 52 give directions? (example 2 - computer generated voice SERENA)

Tom Tom Start 52 is the sat nav which UK Driving Test examiners will be using in the new UK driving test from December 4th 2017.
Candidates will be following the satnav for over 50% of the test time so it is important to be familiar with how the Tom Tom Start 52 will give directions. It is actually different depending on whether a recorded voice or a computer generated voice is used. So make sure you watch my other example videos as well to see the differences.
We don't yet know which voice the examiners will select on the sat nav.

tomtom on satnav mode is good (while you're actualy driving). punching instructions on the screen is slow and laggy. frustrating. i have the same tomtom start 52 seen on this video. google maps on any half decent android or iphone is better .

Why is it 'second left' or 'turn left' when there is no junction?

It says take second left because the following junction is very soon after the first side turn. Thereafter the second junction is just a sharp deviation in the main road but because there is a "side road" straight ahead the sat nav has been fooled. You will not if you confirm things with road markings and therefore not signal left at this point. Always confirm with observation on signs and markings particularly at complex junctions.

Quick question. The Example 1 video narrator describes the roundabout instruction as "cross", "round" etc whereas Example 2 has only "enter". Can you confirm whether any of the computer generated voices use 'cross/round', or was it limited to the recorded voice?

Hi Shino, thanks for your comment. These 2 videos were put up to show the difference between the instructions given by the recorded voices and the one and only computer generated voice - Serena. The recorded voices ALL said "go around the roundabout, 1st exit" which is terribly confusing for learner drivers. Or they said "Cross the roundabout 2nd exit" if you were basically following the road you were already on. The computer generated voice was better in that it said "Enter the roundabout and take the 1st (or 2nd/3rd etc) exit" and it was consistent. The computer generated voice (Serena) is also strangely nicer to listen to and is the only one which gives the option of also reading out road names etc which can help or may overload you with info. BUT - THERE WAS AN UPDATE TO THE SOFTWARE THIS WEEK. I have been testing the update this week and will post a new video within a few day but all the voices now give roundabouts instructions in the same way e.g. "Go left on the roundabout and take the first exit" "cross the roundabout and take the second exit" "go right on the roundabout and take the third exit" Hope this helps :)
