Let’s be real especially to the people who say he has a bad voice. This guy has NEVER practiced singing. He’s not going to be the best singer off the bat. Just needs practice. I think a lot of people think he should be an amazing singer but I think it’s better like this. It’ll show him grow throughout the story. He saw potential in Sato’s voice and was moved by it. Jennifer Hendricks i don’t think that would be the case for people who are professional singers/singing teachers. his voice is not bad but it is definitely not trained yet. however it does portray many emotions that a skilled singer would not be able to when they’re focusing too much on the technique and projection. it’s still beautiful, but yes it can tend to hurt/strain your voice 😳

Here’s the thing, the point of this wasn’t to show that he was an amazing singer, just to show how his voice held so much pent up emotion that hit you so deep it gave you chills. That’s exactly what I personally felt when listening to this. Yes, his voice isn’t perfect, but it holds so much emotion that I feel like it achieves exactly what it was going for.

The things that hits me hardest is when they reveal that Yuuki hummed this same tune when he was alive, remembering that Mafuyu had sung it recently. this tune that both of them had sung, resonating between their lips, still plays in Mafuyu's head. That's why it's the first thing he thought of singing. It makes my heart break in too many places.. now Uenoyama will help develop this tune into a beautiful song. A flourishing progress.

I’ll admit it: when I first heard him sing, I cringed a little because I was expecting to be blown away. I did feel chills, but I wasn’t sure if I was forcing myself to believe Mafuyu was good. People say Mafuyu isnt that good. To me, that's what makes it beautiful. In this moment, it's just Mafuyu and Uenoyama. There is no crowd to impress, no band deals (yet), and no expectations. It's just Mafuyu making music for Uenoyama. Not producing. Making. His voice is raw and unfiltered, giving it a sense of familiarity. It's not polished or mass produced. Mafuyu's voice is something home made and imperfect. And that's why Uenoyama fell in love with him.

I actually had a moment exactly like this in real life: I've recently moved to uni and I'm constantly meeting new people through class and societies, and there's a girl at my theatre society who I developed a crush on. I was spending some time with her and the rest of the society after rehearsals at this pub, and out of nowhere, she started singing to herself. Everyone else was drinking, talking and generally not paying attention, but I froze, unable to speak or even look at her bc I was blushing so much and I just listened. I don't know what song it was, but I didn't even care. I literally felt like I'd been shot through the heart, her voice was so beautiful, and it caught me off guard bc she's usually such a quiet girl. It was surreal. She has a habit of singing quietly to herself and every time I go numb from just emotions. I want to be her girlfriend so bad, just so that I could listen to her singing all the time. When I first watched Given, I didn't think much of this scene, but now, I understand Uenoyama's feelings perfectly - it's super ironic too, but I'm also a guitarist and I really want to back up her vocals with my playing, a feeling which I've never really had towards any of my singer friends' voices. I never thought I'd relate to an anime character this much in real life, but rn I actually feel like Uenoyama when he met Mafuyu.

My issue is how everyone that hears him sing acts like it’s the best thing they’ve heard when it’s just a newbie who is singing , be honest here, not that well. I started laughing because the reactions don’t match up to how everyone reacts to it.
