We've heard time and time again that eating saturated fat increases the risk for diabetes. The problem is that it simply isn't true. A new study helps us see that the premise is false. I will briefly discuss the study, and more importantly, I discuss take home lessons for to help you better evaluate these studies and decide if it is important for you.

It's ironic but not surprising. Let them eat their wholegrains and fruit juice. You can't save everyone.

@@mshklh2099 Yup. Follow the biochemistry. Wholegrains (any grains) = carbs = sugars. Glycaemic index is not that important, your body will eventually have no choice but to deal with all that sugar. I eat mostly fats and proteins. The sugar my body needs comes from the reconversion of fat.

You should have listened to the people in your diabetes group. Whole grains absolutely do not have the same effect on the body as sugar does. Anyone with a genuine comprehension of biochemistry (unlike @henrytang2203) understands why this is the case.

Lean doesn’t necessarily equate to healthy . You’re just on ketosis . It has nothing to do with your overall health

I have been wondering about it too. Because that was the claim of low fat proponents. I have been on IF and a balancing between fats meat veges and very minimal fruits. Is there a video of dr Bikman about dieatary fats causing insulin resistance?

My diet has been 60/30/10 fat/protein/carbs for almost a year now and initially i lost 35 lbs and have maintained that. While i primarily believe the soda and craft beer were the primary contributory factors to my metabolic syndrome but do recognize that its eating calories in general in surplus and more importantly being sedentary. I believe interval/circuit exercise is more important than diet for metabolic health if you are not eating in surplus.

@Michal Veselý I completely agree. I went keto last year and lost a lot of weight. At the start of the month I started a BBB&E challenge. I eat until I'm full as I eat when I'm hungry. My calorie intake went way up and I'm losing fat while building muscle.

sorry it is true my mother has normal weight she works almost daily she doesn't eat sugar but eats animal fats/protein like butter, read meat etc. 3-4 times a day and she is pre-diabetic. She doesn't eat sugar and it won't help at all because the true cause of diabetes is excess dietary fat especially saturated fat.

It could be stress. Stress raises cortisol and glucose. Could be inflammation as well. No martyrs what you eat, stress and lack no sleep throws everything off.

Ive been on keto, a naturally lean person, to lower my blood sugar and it works, my problem is my bmi is 21.5, Im just too "skinny". How does someone like me add a few pounds. Im 5'10 and weigh 144...Im also 72 and very active with resistance training most of my life. For me this weight loss is a problem. I do eat until Im full..

Do a google search and you find recommendations to low glucose by avoiding saturated fat and eating Stella cut oats, berries, yogurt, etc.

It is what vegans invented when they found out that diabetes (sugar) is the number 1 risk for heart disease and not LDL, cholesterol or fat.

Too many carbs and too much fat are no good for type one diabetics. It wasn’t until I got my type one kid eating less of both these macros that I got their A1C down to 4.9 from 6.

@@rachelbrondel5858 ground beef, chicken breast, eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese, avocado, red peppers, cucumber, cauliflower, zucchini, mushrooms… we used to eat more beef, eggs and cheese but reduced those and increased the chicken breast and vegetables. Less calories in total has seemingly reduced insulin resistance even though carbs have gone up a bit.

so high fat, high carbs, and high calories is bad for you, everyone seems to agree but you have countless people on the LCHF shouting about how great they are doing losing ALOT of weight and reversing diabetes and getting off medication - then you have the plant based diet people shouting about the same thing, and across the 2 you have people that didn't do so well on both sides. Surely that means something and that you scientist folk are missing a key piece of the pie here. Can you sort it out!?!?! From what I see and hear its an all out war of the proper human diet. I'm on a keto diet following what Dr Eric Westman says but its always in the back of my mind he could be wrong even though I believe him to be an ethical man. I'm not intelligent enough to understand these studies (I have 3 kids and a life so I don't have time either) I am very confused by the mixture of information. i've got myself into a horrible state of health (my fault obviously) and I just want to do the right thing but I do not know 100%what that is!! rant over lol.

My thoughts exactly ! Except I have 5 kids 😅🤣 so hard to know what approach is right. You've got vegans on the one hand, the carnivore on the other.. somewhere in between there are even fruitarians swearing their diet is the best. It all gets so confusing when all you want to do is live well. I am reading up on Weston Price at the moment because he wanted to find a traditional culture/ group of people that lived on a plant-based diet as he wanted to prove it'd be very healthy for humans, but he found the opposite: all traditional cultures lived on animal products and some vegetables etc. He found no vegan groups anywhere.

Listen to the vegans. The meat and dairy industries use tactics similar to those used by tobacco companies to undermine public health interventions. They do this by distorting research findings, co-opting policy makers and health professionals, and lobbying politicians and public officials. In his book about his fight with the tobacco industry, former FDA commissioner David Kessler tells of similar strong-arm tactics used by the meat industry to try to squash nutrition regulations. If you follow the link to this Diet Doctor guy's website, you'll see that he is charging people $119 annually for information (recipes, meal plans, etc.) that can easily be found for free elsewhere online. This does not necessarily mean he intends to scam or mislead people, but it is a giant red flag. If you want to lead a long and healthy life, consume lots of whole foods-fruit, vegetables, legumes, whole grains etc.-and avoid processed foods, sweets, and animal products as much as possible.
