Can a keto diet help you with improved satiety and decreased hunger? Yes! A keto diet, at least a well formulated keto diet, is also a higher satiety diet. Let's get into the details of why this is the case so you can decide if a keto diet is the right approach to improve your satiety.

Yep. And it seems that if there is money to be made, the Corporatists in Big Food will boldly step in to cloud the nutrition tables with labels of Total Carbs vs Net Carbs, "KETO Friendly" labels and ultra-processed nutrition empty offerings....

In the absence of hard data regarding the metabolic effects of non-caloric sweeteners and ultra processed fiber there still remains the genuine question "are they truly ketogenic"? In many people they may not be.

@@jessicajohnson4087 I have been on Keto for 5 years now. I do eat green veg..eggs..cheese meat fish etc. The body that they found in a bog thousands of years old last meal was grains which also was bread. So it is not strictly true that we did not eat fruit or grains. Ibviously fruit was seasonal and was not as sweet as today. Even the colour of fruit has changed. All to do with man messing with it.

@@derryshore5586 Hi! Good point. No doubt humans ate other foods along the way. But as far as satiety, animal protein and fats have been there all along. The fact that there are no "essential" carbohydrates for humans tells us that we can survive without carbs but not without fatty acids and amino acids...both of which we get from meat. Dr. Scher did a video about how carbs are not "essential" for us for survival. Sure we can get benefits from a variety of plants and grains maybe but our genetic makeup doesn't require them. Interesting stuff for sure! 👍😊

I started the keto diet a few weeks ago, watch D.r Westman as well. I was a bit skeptical going forward as I failed so many diets before and thought I will be hungry all the time. Essentially, all I did was stop eating the junk food and the food I was normally eating- green vegetables, meat, fish etc wasn’t a big change. I just didn’t like cooking. Anyway, a few days in, noticed my appetite had decreased, some periods of head hunger but generally ok. I started to lose weight within the first week and continue to do so. I have NASH related to fatty liver and had blood work done. My liver enzymes had dramatically decreased my lipid profile and cholesterol had improved and my Fibroscan showed a significant decrease in fatty liver. My hepatologist was really impressed and said keep doing what your doing. Thanks you for your videos, such a great learning tool. I eat only whole foods nothing packaged, no longer order from Skipthe Dishes and am saving a lot of money as well! I’ll use that money to buy new clothes. I’ve already lost 2 inches from my waist.

Doc, I think you miss one huge point. First of all, a keto diet is not based on the food. A keto diet is based on the state of ketosis. If a person is in ketosis, then they are on a keto diet regardless of the food. That is the difference between a low carb diet and a keto diet. A keto diet produces ketones and ketosis. I think the point that you missed is that the state of ketosis causes satiety. Ketosis allows the body to more easily use fuel from the fat that is stored in the body. The reason for the high satiety is not due to the nutrition of the food that is eaten on the keto diet, but due to the metabolic change of ketosis which opens the door to allow the body to access the huge amount of fat stored in the body. Since the body now has access to a huge amount of calories via stored fat, there is less need to consume calories via food - thus higher satiety.

Confirmed with my own experience: When starting 5 years ago I realised that I was forcing myself to eat breakfast after a couple of months. So I thought "if I'm not hungry in the morning why bother forcing myself to eat?" So I stopped breakfast. Five years on, I'm still not interested in breakfast. Before, it was a big glass of orange juice and bowl of Müsli washed down with a mug of coffee well dosed with milk every day, plus pain au chocolat or pain au raisins on the weekend. Just not interested now.

Dr. I just watched an ad by Tony Horton, and he has a supplement called Power Life, or something like that, and the key ingredient is HMB. He went through a horrendous bout of shingles(in his ear and throat) and then he developed this thing. It's supposed to build muscle mass in older people. He says there's a study where people with hip replacement surgery had a awesome reaction to this supplement (not his). Could you look at the study and let us know if this would be good for older women? I'm not overweight so I wouldn't use it for that. Thank you.

Not kidding, i easily eat 18-24 toast (1 toast= 2 slices, with cheese) in a carb omad Followed by sugary stuff etc Just one example. And im hungry soon afterwards With keto, i eat. Im satiated. No craving, no fake hunger. No artifical bloodsugar rollercoaster. I still eat huge, especially compared o others. Thank you very much for your help. I started a low carb diet in the beginning of this past July to get control of my blood sugar, I was never "overweight". Most of my life I used weights to stay in shape. In 2005 I started riding a bike and a few years later I started using bands as well. Weights, bands and riding a bike and when I turned 57 I was told I had type two diabetes...for the past 15 years Ive been on metforman...no sucess, no real plan and no suggestions from my primary care except I could try more meds.. I had over those years a 7 to 9 A1c, my last one before the low carb was 9. The rest of the story is like most others on a low carb, great success however, Ididn't think I was going to lose weight, I weight 4 pounds more than I did at age 19 when I was drafted into the military.. My new objective is to gain a little more weight and your help is greatly appreciated. Im a little over 72 and maybe not as active as when I was 25 or 30 but Im far from throwing in the towel..

Why do you and lots of guys like you frame ketogenic diets in the context of losing weight? I don't want or need to lose weight as I am already lean and strong so don't want lose muscle mass but maintain muscle tone and strength. I don't need to fast. Each day I am doing exercise aerobic and anaerobic which probably burns around 3k calories. The there is the residual calories by body needs to function therefore just to break even I need to eat nearly 5k calories each day. I have done this by massively upping my protein intake and increased slightly eating healthy fats. I have even taken to eating a few carbs but still eat a low carb diet. I am not a fat sedentary slob which is unfortunately the target audience of most of these types of video. I guess you lot aren't interested in devising a diet suited to sporting people.

Guess your clinic has never worked with Keto athletes eating 5 times a day to get in all the 6,000 to 8,000 kcal a day. Doesn't matter if they are hungry or not, they have a required eating minimum to grow and get big. And high endurance athletes have to eat to keep on a normal amount of weight. On the flip side guess your clinic has never dealt with obese patients eating frozen sticks of butter like popsicles. It happens. It is critical to inform people keto is not a perfect cure all for everyone. Especially for those, generally ladies that don't like to eat meat everyday. Context critical. No one size fits all. Not everyone fits in the same box.
