I'm a big time lawyer in the city, and yet I'm addicted to donkey basketball. All I think about. Is this okay? It started as a corporate fundraiser. We had a gym reserved and a company provided us with the donkeys. It seemed innocent enough, until game time when everything seemed to slow down and I became entranced with the game. Every aspect of it seemed logical and right. When the final buzzer sounded, I had thrown up the game winning shot. My teamates rode over to congradulate me, and I had never received such ephoria. That night I could not sleep. I think about it during meetings and it is starting to interfere with my homelife, and I'm even a republican! I am thinking about getting proffessional help, because I see no solution. I do not want to stop thinking about it, but I also do not want it to further hinder my life. Across the city they have another charity function, and I am thinking about going even though I am not invited.

I was thinking about that and surprised because SNL is the type of show that is definitely going to have to comply with animal cruelty and safety rules, but then I realized that out of the 3 guys actually on the donkeys, one is tall enough that he's actually just standing (Charles) and the other two have one foot on the ground and one draped over the donkey. The part where Spade rides off on the donkey wasn't planned-- the donkey got startled by the ball and rushed away, and Spade is so short that he gets carried away with it. Rewatch and pay attention-- Spade doesn't know what to do and is grabbing on to the other guys for balance, and everyone is surprised and Charles giggles. Spade gets off as soon as he can. Ultimately the sketch is funny because it's such a shitshow-- nothing goes as planned and the donkeys are all over the place.

Watch it again. Charles, although standing, is yanking the donkey's harness so hard that it's clearly in pain, even got its mouth open and struggling and occasionally yelling throughout. Furthermore, it's a good cast with David Spade, Rob Schneider, Mike Myers, and Chris Farley, but this bit was just not funny and frankly hard to watch.

+Amy O Looking at it again, I see what you mean-- I had noticed that the donkey was drooling, but I was so focused on figuring out the feet that I didn't see how hard he was pulling. I agree that the bit wasn't funnny (even the premise is dumb), but did still find the chaos entertaining. Thinking about it as a whole, this sketch was really poorly thought out and unfortunate.

@@doomchickenz6 donkey wasn't yelling. Those were audio recordings played to make it sound like the donkeys were braying. It looked like the donkey was chomping on the bit way before Barkley was trying to get it to hold still at all. It didn't appear that he was putting any extreme pressure on it, either. But thats just my opinion, based off of the horses and donkeys my grandparents have owned and I've been around all my life. But I'm sure plenty of people won't agree, and likely to reply with some nasty and angry reply.
