Yeah it was exactly that. They’re best friends and John was an alcoholic in the past, so he had some experience of Pete’s world of depression. And he helped him back on his feet, and came on the show for him so Pete would feel more relaxed about being there. It’s a lovely story that seems to be inspiring a lot of people. It’s amazing what a good friend can go :)

I'm super glad to see Pete getting back out after that scare. You can tell John isn't joking when he looks at him, he's genuine. It's hard to remember sometimes that there can be a separation from a person's stage persona and who they are every other minute. I feel like that a lot at work nowadays, I'll be fine and happy until I'm home, bored and questioning the purpose of it all. John seems like such a joyous person now, but he has discussed in his comedy that he battled alcoholism from a young age. I cannot imagine the pain that Pete is going through with his recent BPD diagnosis and fraught relationship with marijuana and social media, but I'm glad he has a fellow comedian who has also been public about his struggles and found happiness and success on the other side.

So basically, Pete was dating Ariana Grande(pop singer) and they got engaged after dating publicly for a few weeks, then broke off the engagement, and Pete posted a tweet insinuating that he was going to commit suicide not long after their break up.

John is such a naturally funny guy and I really like Pete. I don’t understand all the crap he gets. He’s troubled. But I got a mental illness too. It’s not easy but he’s able to laugh at himself. He seems like a sweet guy. He’s cute in a way too. I hope he keeps healing.

When John talked about showing Pete the sober life, I assumed that he was lying and hiding his addiction in that moment time. But I read that he didn't actually relapse until 2020. So he truly was clean during this segment. I'm glad that he's come out on the other side in the present day.

I love that everyone clearly adores Pete and are all there for him. And also not judging him. The scriptwriters did an epic job by having an easy topic to ease into
