How Angelina's Voice Saved My Life I have been in the ICU at a Veteran's Hospital for the past five days fighting to survive. Two weeks ago I did not care to live; I have been like that for 15 years or so. I gave up on humanity, the world, everything. I embarked on a path of self destruction - waiting for it to end. Then I heard Angelina. I had to hear more and learned about her. I suddenly wanted to live again; I want to hear her album and see her grow up. So I sought out help just in the nick of time. We as a species and the US as a nation in particularly have become so divided that the only force powerful enough to reunite us is music.

Here is a quote from Angelina (7y) from an interview with TV2 after her Auditions NTG 2014. "The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but" Gloomy Sunday "was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on KZbin before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song. " ♥👣👸🏻🎷 In a interview after this performance Angelina's mom was asked why she was crying during her performance?? Were they happy tears?? Mom said; " They were happy tears but they were also sad tears because I know I just lost my daughter to the world. ♥👣👸🏻🎷

Consider. She is recorded singing at 18 months of age. At two going on three she is seen scrolling through KZbin listening to Jazz artists for hours. At three she already knew she would be a singer. Tells her Mother she wants to sing on that Simon show. At four she is in school and enrolls in after school program taking music, piano, violin and flute. At five she is studying music theory. She is practicing four to six hours per day. Obsessed maybe. Mother is trying to slow her down but she is driven and pushes for more. Not your normal child. Already arranging her own music. Choosing her own songs. Has told her Mother she wants to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. She is speaking three languages fluently. Reading Norwegian and English. Prodigy is not adequate to describe. Genius for sure. Just maybe an Angle. No one knows how, but there she stands.

It looks as though you caught something that I have never seen any other reactor notice... at one point - just after the second (amazingly beautiful) "Your Daddy's rich..." - she very softly sings "Don't you say no"... this is Louis Armstrong's line in his duet with Ella Fitzgerald, which Angelina clearly has running through her head as she sings...

The judges knew something special was going to happen but they were still caught in total surprise. It’s like the Spanish Inquisition with Angelina’s main weapon being surprise and of course choosing jazz with Billie Holiday. Let’s do that again, her two main weapons are surprising everybody every time and choosing jazz with Billie Holiday and looking cute as a button barefoot, in a princess dress and a wilde man of hair. Her THREE main weapons being a total surprise, choosing jazz and looking cute as a button and …. of course giving one hell of a performance. She just blew them right out of their socks and shoes. The second performance is equally impressive. She sings it a cappella and keeps on pitch and on tempo. That is so hard to keep it up especially when doing such an audition. Someone put her singing on the music and it fits perfectly. The word I made up for it is that she has a phonographic memory: it is as if the song is on a tape playing in her head. I love Bang Bang. What I specifically like about it is how she manages to control her vibrato. She has a very rich vibrato and here it is very moderated. Already at barely 8 she has the control to turn it on and off at will. It is a fairly easy song to sing from the melody. But by playing with the rhythm, tempo, the pauses and her voice, she makes it sound so beautiful. It is pretty hard to make an easy song sound so beautiful. Summertime is very beautiful as well. This version seems to be heavily inspired by the duet of Ella and Louis. The high note on the second ‘And your daaaaaaa-ddy’s rich’ The line she whispers right after that, kudos for catching that!, under her breath is what Louis said during that duet. Of course she won with almost just as many votes as all the other finalists together. And yes those were grown-up artists at their own game :-D

Yes, Angelina is a natural. My theory is that she was born with an affinity to music & this was noticed by her grandma Mery who began playing legendary jazz music for her. By 3 she was spending hours on YT, carefully listening to songs she liked on repeat. At that age, her brain is developing & synaptic connections are being made between neurons. These jazz patterns became wired in her brain so they became natural for her. Then it's just a matter of 10,000+ hours of practice & ...walla, we have a musical genius. There is no need for her to be reincarnated from some jazz legend of the past. Of course a very high IQ, good work ethic, large larynx & being born into a loving family with sufficient funds to support her dream, certainly doesn't hurt. Can you imagine if Angelina was the barefoot girl weighing people for money. We would never know of her.

There were a few months between AJ's NGT audition and her final performance, "Summertime." In that space, AJ developed into a professional singer. She was outstanding in her audition -- as other prodigies have been -- but her transformation as a performer and a singer in a few months as evidenced in her final performance is so striking that it's almost hard to believe. And yes, you noticed her release of tension through a silent "whoosh" just before the coda (right before the last "hush little baby"). It's utterly pro. At barely 8 years old.

Most people are not familiar with this first song. To have any idea how amazing this is, one needs to check out Billie Holiday singing it. This was the first inclination the world is being favored with this incredible person. That second one was off the charts. On stage at 7 with her competitors directly behind her, she states what she will sing, sings it without music flawlessly, smiles, curtsies, and thanks them. No nerves. Skipping through Bang Bang or any of her songs is like catching small glimpses of Van Gogh's "Starry Night". Most of the artful detail is lost. "Summertime" is just mic drop material. So delicately perfect. Sealed the deal. Good reaction.

All I can tell you in a very brief way is something you know already. Her thought process comes from deep within her, her soul, and when she sings her words and phrases reflect the love from her soul and she touches our hearts and we become very emotional. Our hearts take over and our heads are far behind and are still trying to figure out what happened. Genuine? OMG. 1000% ! Technically she applies all of herself to learning her craft but the feelings we get from listening to her cannot be taught, it is a gift she has. If you want to call her a Messenger of Love, I believe that would be very appropriate.

Yes, it has to be 100% instinctive. You cannot teach a 7 or 8 or old child to sing like this; it HAS to come from inside her. Her timing (anticipation, back-phrasing, and note placement) is unbelievably good for a singer of ANY age. For a 7 or 8 year old girl, this is simply unbelievable. While I don't believe she's an alien, I have to agree that she's an "old soul" (possibly even a reincarnation of Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, or someone of that vintage). I personally believe she may simply have been born 100 years late. I'm nevertheless glad to be alive during the "Age of Angelina"!

Great reaction, SD! Her performance of "Summertime" was heavily inspired by the recording by Louis Armstrong, who is one of her biggest idols, (her vibrato in this cover is a great giveaway to her influence btw). The part you heard her almost whisper to herself is apart from the original Louis Armstrong recording that was left out of HER cover, most probably to make the performance fit with the schedule. She probably just whispered the missing part (a piece of it) for timings sake. Well spotted. NOW.. The hack-slashing of her "Bang Bang" performance is a BIG NO-NO in MY book (I know it's not your fault), so I will give you the link to her full performance of it here. I think that that performance was the best of them all. Here is the link : Bang Bang (originally written by Sonny Bono in 1966 and performed by his wife Cher, but maybe made MOST popular by Nancy Sinatra) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnTEdayfpthqjck Much love from Norway ♥♥♥♥♥

The moment that you replayed over and over in the "Summertime" performance was her version of an "ad lib" that Louis Armstrong sings at the same point in the song in his late-1950s recording with Ella Fitzgerald. It occurs about 4 minutes and 22 seconds into this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHmtdIFpqtWAfqc So now you can very carfeully compare Angelina's vocal arrangement with the version that directly inspired it.😁

I assume someone elsewhere in these comments has already pointed you to the full version of her second-round a-cappella "Im a Fool to Want You", but just in case, here's that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gonOn3-QedSFjLM The version you saw in this compilation video was the one originally aired on the show, but she actually sang 50 more seconds of the song that they edited out, presumably just for time. Hearing the full version makes her achievement even more impressive, IMO, because in the omitted portion - the "bridge" of the song - the melody goes "all over the place" (and it even contains a half-spoken line), and yet Angelina was able to remain so rock-solid on-key that when the edit happens in the short version (just as they cut to a shot of one of the female judges, immediately before Angelina sings, "Pity me, I need you"), you can't tell _at all_ that anything was edited out. It just sounds like she sang it that way.

I believe, at her mother's request, Angelina changed some of the lyrics so it seemed more about sadness/depression, than suicide...she knew all along that the song was about suicide...she changed "little white flowers could never awaken you" to "little white flowers were never a waste on you"..."black coach of sorrow" to "black hole of sorrow"...etc

I love and always look forward to your mind-blown reactions to Angelina! Yes, this is just unbelievable! It's been eight years now, and NASA is still trying to locate her spaceship! It must have a Romulan cloaking device! LOL!

Thanks for doing this one. Bang-Bang is a bad recording. Someone put the wrong thing in there. Like the one judge said at the first audition, "You ARE music!" "Oh your Daddy's rich and your Ma is good lookin'." The guy in the red shirt is an awesome break-dancer. The group is a song/dance group. 46% of the peoples' vote over 10 acts. Amazing is a word that can't contain it all. I love the Billie Jean cover. Grandma Ellen, over & out. 💜

Sigh… I really should've waited to comment until I had finished your reaction. This is my 4th comment here. Anyway… The 10 acts in the finals, in the order they performed, were: * Henrik Fuglem, singer, 14 years old * Eirik Sætre Hove, yoyo artist, 17 * Viva Sandnes Kulturskolekor, chorus, 12-19 * Unique Crew, dancers, all 19 * Cato Alexander Eikeland, rapper, 17 * Guilherme "Magicurty" Curty, magician, 31 * Julie Stokke, singer, 15 * Daniel Grindland, dancer, 20 * Angelina Jordan, singer, 8 * Juice Crew, dancers, 19-22 (The ages for most of these are actually the ages given during the auditions, so some of them might be a little off.) If you want to actually see the acts she was competing against, I have a playlist on my channel ("Norske Talenter 2014 acts competing against Angelina Jordan").

Angelina has natural talent, yes, but once you watch the progression during the 5 years after her win on NGT you will understand just how hard she worked to perfect her artistry. Prodigy yes, but willing to work hard to be the artist she is today! The other talents of the other performers was moot, she won with 46% of the vote in the finals out of ten performers, and yes, they knew before the end that she was going to win,

Angelina has a voice that will one day not just sing but also speak to the world. I did have some issues with the video you chose of her 3rd performance. On the plus side, the person arranging this clip didn't modulate her voice. On the negative, it has jumps throughout it. All unnecessary as long as the reactor pauses the performance to make comments and then restart it. Pausing to comment protects the reactor from claims of both video and audio copyrights. Jumping is a second only in sins than is modulating the sound.

You mentioned how she "said on _The View_ " that she started singing at 1½. Sounds like you haven't actually witnessed her doing that. The relevant clip occurs 1 min 52 sec into this "news story" about her that aired midway through her run on NGT : kzbin.info/www/bejne/anazoomsoc54bas (turn on English captions). For me, this is the best evidence out there that she really was born to sing.

I suggest you react to Angelina Jordan singing, I'm Still Holding Out For You. As I understand it, this song was written by a singer/songwriter named Baby Fuzz, but he hadn't performed the song and wanted Angelina to do the song. I believe she was still 10, and about a month before her 11th birthday. Her parents wouldn't allow the song to be released because of the content, but it was leaked somehow. It will likely blow your mind for multiple reasons.
