Bummer that she didn't fly well for you as well as many others, too! I saw one at a local field and asked to pick her up with the flight pack installed. Ultimately, what makes the full-scale Bobber fly so well is how LIGHT it is. This RC version is the heaviest flight ready 1 meter of it's kind we've ever seen. When you have a high wing loading, your wing is always going to be much closer to a critical angle of attack while struggling to keep itself flying. Any slight increase in back pressure/up elevator will lead to one or both of the wings reaching the critical angle of attack (stall), as you experienced. Bottom line, it seems the best plan of attack is to simply not pull the trigger on this plane, which is unfortunate because it definitely is a looker!
@jlester423 жыл бұрын
Looks to me like it's a wing washout issue. You need to twist the wings so the front tips are slightly down 1 - 2 degrees from the root. This prevent the outside of the wing from stalling before the inside if the wing.
@winsor682 жыл бұрын
Agreed. And then he still has to not stall the aircraft.
@TailHeavyProductions2 жыл бұрын
Washout helps with where the wing stalls first, sure, but ultimately this plane is abnormally heavy for its size. The wing loading is through the roof. Even washout won't help prevent it entirely from always flying around super close to a critical AOA due to a very highly loaded wing.

It’s easy to forget that flying ain’t easy! Everything has to be right to fly, but only one thing wrong to crash. I had a kK Invader which I converted to rc powered flight. It was an ugly duckling, but slowly, with each tinker, it got better. One day I realized I finally had a great little aeroplane. I know how you feel though, there are some aeroplanes to which we never get attached. Looking forward to your next project.

I flew mine too yesterday. Without problems. Your CoG is so wrong. Visually it looks like a 3S battery. In conjunction with a 20A regulator, I find that optimistic. In addition, the battery is far too far behind. The result is tip stol. Tip from me: 2S 1500mAh directly behind the motor in the shaft provided for it. Video of my first flight is coming soon.

Wondering if the wings had a twist in one of them. Being wood and film covered, this could easily happen in building, or during shipping if exposed to wide temperature range. During all the video incidents, the Savage Bobber was consistently bobbing to left, 100% of time. If still have wings, you might try sighting down the leading and training edger from the root. Another possibility is the motor/prop combination and torque having an effect (but less likely IMO).

@HilmarLange26 күн бұрын
The airfoil is the cause. It has an unnecessarily large thickness of 15%, and the leading edge is far too blunt. For this reason, it stalls even at very low angles of attack. Not exactly what you would expect from a bush plane... Possible remedies: - Cut off the leading edge and replace it with a more pointed one (it will then protrude forward over the windshield, but who cares) - Iron it to add some twist to the wing, about 1 to 2 degrees. You can also adjust the ailerons slightly upwards. - Apply turbulators Not easy to swallow, but sadly true. Also, building a completely new wing will help you out. With a foolproof Clark Y airfoil (10 % thickness) everything's fine. That's not the reason why one would buy an ARF kit, for sure.
@kevinlong21672 жыл бұрын
Pleased I’ve seen this, as I was tempted to buy one. Not now. I reckon your wings are warped and you’re getting the effect of aileron turn. Also I agree with other comments about weight. For an open structure film covered model it’s surprisingly heavy. VMC Super Cub is a much better model (same span, lighter and forgiving to fly with oversized wheels).

Yo so I read some comments and haven't seen anyone mention this yet. Why didn't you use the flaps? The flaps are what make the Bush plane what it is. They should have been down when you were taking off they create more lift and you will have a lower stall speed. Also you should not have been trying to taxi in that tall ass grass. You didn't even give this model a chance. That was definitely operator error.
@kristofferrydquist83842 жыл бұрын
It is because flaps are an add on, not a crutch, and the plane should fly perfect without them. The flap equipped planes I had (such as the excellent bush flyer Multiplex Fun Cub and a number of gliders) are harder to fly with flaps out, but they fly slower which is the point. From watching this and other videos the plane simply seems to fly really bad. This type of plane; high wing, semisymmetric profile, should be really easy, yo! :)

Did you mount motor a little to the right and a little down? Don't think so. Rookie mistake.
@skypilot249 Жыл бұрын
Not for beginners, and it needs lot's of improvements, and also good quality servos, motor, and ESC. Those recommended 3.7 g Servos, what a joke ! Also, the wings on mine are removable, the tailwheel is a separate assembly not just attached to the rudder. The control horns, far too small and weak, I use bigger ones. And all my electrics are nicely run thru black shrink tubing; I removed that silly tube which was inside the tail section messing up the whole looks. Inside the "Cockpit" I'll add a floor and covers for the receiver, and only after first flights, an instrument panel, seats and a pilot. Then, the motor will be mounted with proper pull downwards and to the right, and I'll check a few other videos about the correct C.G. before the maiden flight. I think, 4 c.m. as in the manual, is wrong and makes it tail heavy and uncontrollable leading to stall right after take-off. As for the wing loading, I measured and calculated : each wing has 7.7 square decimeter, X 2 = 15.4, my plane weighs 670 g incl. a 3 s 1'300 mAh so I have 43.5g / square decimeter which is fairly low. (some of my planes have over 80) By the way when calculating wing loading, only measure the wings, NOT the part over the fuselage which provides no lift at all. I spent many hours on it so I expect it to fly fairly nice. Take-Off with half flaps of course and on a short cut grassy runway, in a few days. But only if everything is double-checked 100 % as usual.
