Seen 2 on the road with real plates in the NYC/Long Island area. Non offensive looking and honestly, it just blends in with the Palisades/Telluride, Explorer, Pilot, Highlander, Pathfinder crowd. If I had crazy dollars, a solar set up and a power wall built from salvaged Fisker batteries.... and a house... but I have $3.50 and a Tuckson. Thanks SG.

As someone currently surviving the aftermath of Hurricane Helene with my Ioniq 5 keeping my fridge cold, my devices charged and allowing me to cook (including easily reheating things in the microwave), I think you missed a big benefit of eGMP - Vehicle to Load. So for a $300-ish lease not only do you get a great car, but you get a battery backup for your house. After going through this experience I will never NOT own a vehicle that can do this, and I'm already contemplating leasing an EV9 in addition to the I5. Great video as usual!

Wow I can't believe how low that leasing price is. It's much more expensive here to lease, it's more like 700 for a private lease on the single motor least-equipped model when I just checked, the EV9 almost a thousand. I guess leases are a lot cheaper in the US. Do you have a yearly mileage limit?

There is so much battery space in a minivan platform that 500 mile range would be doable. Unfortunately, stand up comics and car reviewers have joked about minivans for so long people don't want to be the butt of a joke. But ask Jason Cammisa how much he loves his Vangina. There is no substitute, as Porsche used to say.

Well I think it's older people like Millennials and up who have a stigma around minivans. I'm Gen Z and when the topic comes up I think most younger people just find them ugly. We were probably the first generation to grow up with SUVs as our family cars and we aren't like the generations before where we grew to loath them. A lot of us went straight for SUVs as our first cars and will continue to do so. Minivans just arent appealing to folks. Plus they aren't like sedan or SUVs with tons of sizes and price points to choose from. It's all the same rough blueprint. I did own a Honda Fit which is definitely Minivan shaped. I really like the shape and practicality. But a SUV hits my boxes just fine. I don't plan on ever looking at a sedan or hatchback. I like minivans but they are really large and I don't particularly care for how low the car is. It would be a consistent issue.

Yep! Lucid Gravity is prime example. It's pretty much just a lifted van with small design features to make it look like a long SUV rather than a mini van. Honestly could just called it a lifted coupe minivan lol. People want 3 row vehicles with lots of space for each 3 rows, while also it being versatile to carry lots of stuff....that's a mini van.

These are my experiences after 6 months of ownership so far. We have 5 children (aging 4-19) and this car accommodates the whole family without any problem. It may look like a SUV but the interiour space and layout is more like a minivan. You have plenty of space as an adult also inte third row. It’s very quiet and comfortable. It delivers the range that KIA marketed. No problems so far with the software or anything else for that matter. Cons I noticed. Well, the lanekeeping assist is way to aggressive, if you meet a large truck, bus or something on a narrow road and try to keep out on the edge, the car throws you back. Scary as hell. And the driver alert is way to sensitive. But worst of all is the speedsign warning. The car pingis and beeps all the time because of this. So I turn off all these features before I go anywhere. 😊

I rented a 2024 Sorrento last week. As a Subaru owner I'm used to the safety stuff but Kia definitely has to work on theirs. Over active driver alert, blind spot monitor going off if you put on your turn signal when another car is in the other lane even when it's ahead and safe to move over, and in drive thrus it constantly beeps while you're trying to order and get your food because you are close to the curb.

I completely agree with the video. I looked at my local dealership (I don’t live in a big city…I’m actually in rural SE MN) so we only have one dealership somewhat close. They want $349 a month lease for the bottom trim. RWD doesn’t bother me but only 230 range in MN might be an issue come winter. At $299 I think I’d actually consider it. I would have to look at dealerships in the cities to see what they’re offering. My only issue is my work commute is 50-55 miles a day round trip depending on which route I take. I’d have to charge this every day. Or level 1 charge it during my 12 hour shift at work. lol. Luckily I only work 3 days a week. If we don’t need to go into the city, our driving is usually 10-15 miles per round trip for getting the kids or going to the store. That’s where this works great. Almost free for those super short commutes. But in reality we are probably going to wait until the CX-70 has been out a couple years and pick up a used one of those to replace our 8 year old CX-5 that’s been trouble free with 221k miles so far on it (hoping to take it to 300k before we replace it).

Everyone loves the way it looks, and it drives better than the bmws and Audis I've had. Which is to say, it nails the comfort/handling thing better - not that it can out-handle a bmw from the early 2000s. Gobs of space inside, and charging has been no problem. As much as it looks nice in cars like the Escalade and others. It's just not ideal vs the traditional layout. This was something that I needed to get used to when I got my EV6 GT. By having it just one single piece it made the steering wheel at an awkward angle. I have gotten to used to it by now for the last several months but honestly I would go back to a 2 sperate screens layout instead. Maybe they wanted something bigger than for the cockpit but w/o all the extra space for the shade. Maybe with the display tech of today it could get bright enough to see in direct sunlight? Who knows but I actually put on a matte screen protector on both of the screen and it's a lot better to see when it's sunny. The trend that I don't like are making the screen just straight and not at an angle. This was a deal breaker for me in the new Pilot when their prior gen screens were at an angle. We are not eye leveled with the screens in lots of cars so please don't make them lay straight up which makes them awkward to use.

Just got back from the Kia dealer. For an AWD Wind, with a total price of $69k inclusive of taxes and fees, they quoted me $430 per month, $2,000 down, 15k miles a year for 2 years! You can get under $400 per month if you go with 12k miles per year. That includes all taxes and fees! But I'm in Colorado where we get an additional $5k EV incentive and I'm a current Tesla owner and Kia is offering $1500 conquest cash. In total, they offered $20k off MSRP. I'm also considering a Subaru Solterra, though. They offered me $299 per month with 2400 down for a limited trim for 36 months and 15k miles a year inclusive of all taxes and fees, which comes to $22k in incentives. I know the shortcomings of a Solterra, but at that price, I don't really care. What to do?...

Storage concerns are alien to me. I've worked the gamut, from construction, to food service, to office work, and coaching-- with and without kids and carpooling, and I just don't get the concern. Who needs massive cubbies? A trunk for your work bags, a cup holder for each occupant, and a small bin for keys or wallet. If I'm eating, I'm on a long haul drive, so I've got a lunch box on the floor. Who keeps asking for more cubbies and chambers?

I am. I really find it bizarre how many cars waste so much potential space. Especially compact cars and SUVs. The door panals just dont even try to have space and there is no storage options anywhere in the car besides the trunk area. You have to get larger cars to get any useful thoughtful interiors. What's funny is brands like Honda and Toyotas Kei cars have a lot of thought for the interiors. But when the HRV, Civic, Accord, Camry, Corolla etc are deisgned they arent even comparable in terms of how little space and storage they have depsite being larger.

Kia, Kia, Kia… although I’m conflicted on them I do love (some of) their designs both inside and outside. They definitely know how to design vehicles and bring luxury-level features into a class that not even “true” luxury vehicles offer. With that said, I just don’t see how someone could justify owning one with all of the problems they have. My dad owns a 2014 Kia Optima Sx-L and let me just say it is absolutely luxurious for its class. It has heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel, decently sized (integrated) touchscreen infotainment system with a beautiful navigation system, beautifully designed and lit dashboard with a small lcd display in the center, panoramic sunroof, HID headlights and led taillights, power folding side mirrors, auto-dimming rearview mirror w/ homelink, parking sensors, chrome rims, Alcantara headliner, quilted Napa leather seats, entry/exit power memory seats, keyless entry w/ push button start, and a flat-bottom leather-wrapped steering wheel. He still to this day, 10 years later, turns some heads while driving. It doesn’t come without its problems though. As beautiful as it is, the material used are very cheap and don’t last over time. I’ve always said this and always will, but Kia’s will draw you in and tempt you with their beautiful designs and after a couple years you’ll see why they’re cheap. The materials start breaking down rapidly, plastic pieces start rattling and peeling, trim pieces start coming loose, some of the tech stops working, and the endless letters in the mail of recalls. He has 175,000 miles on it and although the engine and transmission have been perfectly reliable for him, I do recognize he is the outlier in this scenario. Still to this day I see Kia is handing out recalls for engine troubles and it looks like their materials still have a hard time keeping up with time compared to other companies’. They will draw you in with feature-overload and hope you purchase them based on that alone… and it seems most people fall for that.

I see they use pouch cells instead of cylindrical, which I feel does not offer as robust of a cooling system as say Tesla, Lucid, Rivian, Porsche. I feel like we're going to see these packs degrade faster than if you buy a Tesla, at least if you're looking at longer term ownership. 1:04 this sums it all up folks. $75K is a lot of money for any car, not just a Kia but it's ok for Toyota to sell an $80K Sequoia though. Let me guess you're not gonna like it cause it's a Kia EV? Oh never mind I meant cause it's a Kia or Hyundai. These two companies are meant to be more of a value offering which can't really be say for their Genesis line now as of recent. I hope you will judge this by other assets and not just simply by their name and history. The EV9 isn't a perfect car but it's a lot better value for what you get vs a Model X or RTS. Some will say those are luxury cars just based on the price. The EV9 GT-line could be had for as much as $15K off so it's really a $60K when you think about it. So please keep that in mind. Continuing with the video....just got done with. Wow it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I don't have an EV9 but test drove one a couple of months ago and left pretty impressed by it. I just wasn't in the market one but if I was this would be on my short list for sure. To me the only negative I have with the higher trims of the EV9 is that it only seats 6 when I want 7 if possible. I'm a fan of bench seating in the 2nd row.

$55k starting price for 200hp/250tq is ridiculous. This thing is huge, weighs a lot, and will weigh even more when a family is packed inside it with gear. That’s simply not enough power to haul or tow. So basically one would have to opt for the top trim at $70k+ for that extra power, which still isn’t much for an EV. $70k+ FOR A KIA!! Screw that! This is exactly why the lease payments are low.

Important thing to remember tho, is u have peak torque from 0 RPM in an EV. That does a lot to mask the lower horsepower number, especially in city driving. My PHEV only has 144hp pure electric, and weighs over 5000lbs. It’ll kill higher hp and lighter cars to 35mph from a stop light, purely cause I get instant torque and I don’t have to shift. And I don’t even have awd. On the highway, I may not be a beast at overtaking, but I can still hit 70 in this century. In fact, I’m pretty sure it still kills the 2003 Corolla I learned to drive in, and with much less noise. 200hp may not be a lot, but it’s probably more than enough for a people mover.
