I bought this same vehicle in the same trim, just a different color. Here's a normal boring car person review who doesn't drive fast or drive a lot of cars. I'm comparing this to a 2012 Nissan Altima that I drove for 10 years. Right when I test drove it, I knew I wanted it. To me, it drove like like a 70K Audi. Just so incredibly solid and premium feeling. Also, the inside was like an expensive SUV as well. Again, this compared to a 2012 Nissan. I've never floored my Rogue and rarely go above 50 cause I drive in a city. If you're just going from light to light, it's super peppy. I love cars you don't have to mash the gas to get somewhere. You just touch the gas and it goes. So, I don't notice the CVT cause I don't drive spirited enough to notice. Feels like a normal auto to me. Cause yes, When you floor these cars, they sound like dog shit. So, this review is for the normal boring city drivers who drive slow, play music, and want a premium quiet SUV. I love this SUV

Plus, I still value elegant aesthetics. The Rogue is my favorite in the segment. It's great as a brand-new purchase or as a lease, but for people who are planning to put 100k miles into a long-term purchase, the super complex engine and a tranny with a negative history is very high risk as the reviewers concluded.

The thing with the CVT in a Nissan is that you change that transmission fluid at least every 30 to maximum 60k miles. Nissan never tells you not to change it. The manuals only say to inspect but the mechanics will tell you to change it out. I've had 4 Nissans since 2011 and have ran up the odometer as much as 167k on a Maxima and 112k on an Altima and have had zero transmission issues. I think most(not all) of the people that get those issues are ones that are lazy and take the car for granted and don't do anything and wonder why their car breaks down.

But for a lot of people it's about trying to make a difference, for a company it's wasting money if they aren't getting it back. Toyota dominates this field, hardly anyone buys a Ford Escape Hybrid now when they were very popular back in 2004-2012 since nobody made a hybrid compact suv. It's all about marketing and gaining the trust of the public since most people know Toyota and Honda are good cars, 9 out 10 times.

Direct injection and CVT are concerning not to mention all the wildly complex computer systems. So I installed an oil/air separator and I’ll be buying an expensive Scan tool which I’ll use when I change the CVT fluid every 36k (even though Subaru of America says you don’t need to change their magical lifetime fluid) Rich people don’t care, they are driving $80k electric cars which are disposable as far as they are concerned. Charging on trips is not an issue for them because they fly to further destinations, nobody talks about this. I’ve said it many times, vehicles in this class first and foremost need to tolerate neglect because you better believe buyers at this price point are going to be clueless about what is needed and tell the dealer to pound sand when the $300 CVT service is recommended. Add in Nissan’s tendency to cater to sub-prime buyers and cars like the Rogue are set up to have a bad reputation when really they can probably be reliable if maintained.

Nice to see Nissan really trying. Not that they had a choice. It's too bad that the reliability is in question. 20 years ago this would have been as reliable as Honda and Toyota. I wish Nissan could compete in that regard, as it would make shopping for new vehicles a lot more interesting. As someone who prioritizes dependability over anything else I really only shop 2 brands. and Nissan used to be there as one of those brands.

Had one out for a test drive though it was a base model, lots of power, quite quick, refined drive, comfortable seats, very nice tech for a base model. The interior feels pretty premium, lots of space. A very nice vehicle all and all, reasonably priced compared to main competitors. Lots of these being sold. I’m definitely considering one though a little higher up trim level to get the really, really super cool tech.

Great car for the money, especially if you lease it . This is a lease king and honestly is really not a bad buy. At this point, we know the transmission fluid has to be changed and it will basically last forever, but that engine is unfixable in my opinion. That has major issues down to the rod bearings and crankshaft and personally I would not touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Hi, I rented one for a Las Vegas trip and I couldn't believe how comfortable it was. The seats were out of this world comfy and it was so quiet so I may just need to get one when I'm ready for a new ride. My Tacoma has been mediocre in terms of quality so this can't been any worse than my pickup. I have had several Nissan's in the past and I've not been disappointed with Nissan reliability.

Switched a family member from a '17 Rav4, to a used '22 Rogue, and have been pretty happy with it so far. I was pretty weary of the brand because of it's reputation, but this thing was like under $25k before a $15k trade in, it was hard to beat. Was also looking at other used Rav4's but options in the price range were outdated tech (no GPS, no car play/android auto, little to no safety features) it really felt like a side grade going to a newer Rav4, on top of their higher asking price. Will keep an eye out for any issues, so far no problems, and doing oil changes earlier than recommended at 5k miles instead of 7.5k

We got a 2023 Rogue as a rental vehicle and used it on two 5-hour road trips, and it was pleasant to drive. Reliability concerns aside, it’s otherwise a well executed vehicle, especially at its price point. The fuel economy was exceptional- we got 38mph driving 80+mph. God knows if the Jatco CVT will grenade as in the past, and the 3-cylinder failures are troubling, but it really is a good vehicle to drive.

Rented '24 Rogue from Nashville to Knoxville. Decent size for its class. Ez to read n use controls. Harsh suspension over any expansion joints and potholes in asphalt; fine on smooth pavement. Weird droning sound from drivetrain and clicking from engine bay. Variable compression good MPG as hit 33 MPG during round trip. Seats near hip joint not comfortable for 3 hours. Would be fine in shorter drives. AC cold in hot 90s weather.

They still made a valid point though, they over complicated a way to make internal combustion engines more efficient. Instead taking a NA Atkinson cycle 4 cylinder and hybridizing it they came up with this crap. They already have a reliable HEV architecture overseas they could’ve used (e-Power) but they decided again that this POS drivetrain was the better option.

I know the current generation Outlander is similar mechanically. I rented (well was given one) one for an 800 mile drive from the Chicago suburbs to Minneapolis and back, and I admit that I did not hate it. It was comfortable and compliant, and even with 38k miles for the rental was not the worst vehicle. I did pour one out for all of the people who would be plagued with some sort of drivetrain reliability issue longer-term, but I suppose that one had the 4-cylinder at least? So better, maybe?

@jefff72874 ай бұрын
Consumer Reports rates it better than Rogue for sure, but it lacks horsepower. I was in the market this year for a compact SUV and it made my short list. For me though, the fact that the Outlander is literally the only good vehicle Mitsubishi sells in the US made me not really overly consider it. I went with the CR-V hybrid, and did the math. While the Outlander is a bit less expensive upfront, the cost at the pump, the resale value, and the reliability just are not on par with the Honda, and I'd much rather have a strong network of dealerships.
@louisc764 ай бұрын
@@jefff7287 Appreciate the input. I know the Mirage is junky af but at the price point for a small new beater car I’d be more likely to buy that over an Outlander because as you said, resale probably sucks. A lot less of a $$ drop on a cheap commuter. The other Mitsubishi cars are non-starters.

So sad you people don't get the e-Power (hybrid) version of this that sells in much of the rest of the world (eg. here in Australia, as the X-Trail). In top trim (Ti-L) guise, AWD via front & rear electric motors where the 1.5 turbo simply generates the electricity required, and nothing more. No drive train, no gears, one-pedal driving ... but otherwise essentially the same exterior and interior as the Rogue. A super, super great vehicle - best that I have owned across the past five decades of various makes & models that I have owned.

Coming from a wholesale reconditioning background, Nissan can get pretty dicey (no manufacturer is immune of course). One of our biggest shocks is in the Nissan Kicks, where a plain non-LED headlight was still well over $500 to replace, maybe even $700 (it's been nearly a year since that vehicle, and we no longer buy them). That headlight light shouldn't be more than $200 new from the dealer, as it's really no more advanced than an '07 Versa in regards to tech. Now again, nobody is immune. The current Silverado and Sierra non-LED tail-lights can again soar well over the $500 mark, and not be something special. For perspective, a Ford F250 Tremor with LED's and cross-traffic radar sensors would be around $1,300 or so. Meanwhile, some manufacturers are surprising us, like the Tundra. We had a Platinum with the integrated button in the driver tail-light for opening the tailgate... I don't even think it was $250, and again it's the fanciest LED tail-light they have. But imagine the crap-shoot as a modern consumer bumping into the shopping cart corral (how, with all the sensors and cameras is beyond me), then having to shell out $1,200 not including paint. It makes being a wholesale dealer a hell of a lot tighter when the buyers don't consider what a little bump can end up costing.

One other thought, forget needing it to work like a dishwasher or washing machine. Anyone who has bought (and subsequently spent a lot on repairs/replacement over just the first couple years) knows, if anything, the last thing the buyers of a Rogue will want is it to be like a modern household appliance.

@@dvaritek434 But looking at the Xtronic model for this 2024 Nissan Rogue and the list of JATCO transmissions, I think this was more of an in-house design by Nissan vs "farming it out" to JATCO, who I didn't realize were a Nissan subsidiary. Since this is a new engine design, Nissan probably wanted to ensure that there were no incompatibility issues--nor raise the JATCO spectre on the model--so they did this one themselves. I know JATCO still does the CVT units for other Nissan products.
