Great review, as always. My 2019 Avalon Touring will be ready for me as soon as gently used ones hit $20k. Until then, my super-clean 2013 Avalon Limited will cart the family & clients around in quiet spaciousness. It replaced my 2004 Avalon XLS, which replaced my 1995 Avalon XLS. Buy 'em gently used, put in a killer car stereo, then road trip across America and keep 'em sparkling for the next owner.

Waiting for a 2021 TRD to come off a single owner low mileage lease at the end of this year or a 2022 TRD next year. I'm thinking prices will tank when the Great Recession hits.

God I miss Turbowski. Can imagine him eyeing this monstrosity with his usual sarcastic silence. He would diss on the engine - "Oh, this is a 6 cylinder? I counted 4". Then Savagegeese would say "this is their tried and true direct and port injec-" and Turbowski would give a curt nod of acknowledgement. He would then take off that engine cover like his dog pooped in the park and he has to scoop it up in a bag. Both Mr. Goose and Turbowski would look at the underbody and make fun of the dysfunctional, ridiculous grill. A moment of mutual understanding and respect. Mr. Goose is reminded why he is friends with Turbowski in the first place. He smiles at Turbowski. Turbowski ignores Mr. Goose's smile. Finally they would both say that this is a car trying to be something it is not. I love you and I miss you Turbowski.

The previous generstion, in the real world, was better on gas and for a fact a quicker car. In my 07 GS 350, it never gave me the issue of searching for gears when I wanted the power. The ratio in the dif/transmission was better. I wished I could just swap the transmission and diff from the old car. I have been working the same job for 10 yrs in the same location. So same journey. The older car gave me better gas mileage even though I was WOT more as well. Toyota/Lexus just went with the 8 just to keep up with the rivals.

You have to understand the "Midwest Mentality" of middle age buyers in the snow belt. This car is just perfect! You're dealing with a demographic that used to buy Pontiacs. These are people that admire a Charger, but understand their own fussy requirements and age limitations. Most sedan buyers are too frightened to buy a sports sedan with a maintenance schedule that will most likely swallow an IRA. These buyers need the price under 50k and it hast to be be reliable for the next 10 years. The Avalon fits the bill! The TRD package just makes it "Merica" compliant for the tailgate crowd. These people wouldn't buy a Lexus anyways. A Lexus is a "woman's car"!! A Lexus is for that guy who owns that party store and wears Tommy Bahama shirts!! Toyota knows their buyers well and they have the numbers to prove it!!

@@RaspberryMocha I'm 6'3" and 250ish and neither had as much hip room as I would love due to the high center consoles, but I got used to it quickly. The Accord had more leg room up front, and much more in the rear. I can sit behind myself comfortably. More rear headroom in the Camry though, even w the pano. The Accord had very near entry-level luxury seat comfort as well. I love the seats as a big guy. Camry was easier to get in and out of however. Accord also was quieter and drove w a sportier flair on the low profile 19's IMO. I preferred the styling too but that's subjective obviously. I was comparing XSE to Touring. Lol, the Avalon has certainly changed alot in 20 years. What do I love about my 2000 Avalon? It's still going strong. The interior looks like new and overall the body is in good shape. I'm not a fan of the more aggressive front on the newer Avalon but if it's as reliable as my 2000 then it's a winner imo. I would buy an Avalon for the comfort.

The Avalon TRD is nice but I feel that the Camry TRD makes more sense And it would be nice if the transmission is geared for performance, a limited slip differential, and maybe a supercharger as an option
@tegra_0
@tegra_0 4 жыл бұрын
The Camry makes more sense from a "Which of these should be a performance car" perspective. This is a luxury car, so the super charger (nope), limited slip (nope), performance oriented transmission (nope). Remember this is Toyota you are talking about. Getting them to put a turbo on an engine, any engine, or to put performance stuff in cars, is like pulling a tooth at the dentist.

For drivers who need a lot of room, comfortable family cruising, hate SUVs; and want something that feels sporty/grippy/competent in the corners. I.e.
