@ckeledjian5 жыл бұрын
Can't agree more. When you buy a luxury vehicle you expect a great sound system, but the mid level in Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover are just tweeters and muddy bass. You'll have to go many thousands more to get something comparable to the Acura ELS, and audiophiles put it right there amongst the best, next to systems in $100k+ cars. Nothing exudes luxury more than a great sound system, and the RDX already has a great ride, silent cabin and great style

Finally someone understands how good the RDX is. The second gen was a lazy departure from the core of what it was and what it has become. I have a first gen, which I encourage people to drive. It had a SH-AWD system with lateral torque vectoring back in 2007. Obviously its more advanced now and turbo lag was real, but its a sleeper of a fun car to drive and a Subaru WRX killer.

@@chaseteterAcura and Subaru model generations were staggered differently but I have driven friends 07, 08, 13 WRX and my RDX. For 2007 RDX vs 2007 WRX: 100%. The RDX, aside from having a superior AWD in 07, the 2.3 has more HP and torque as well. For 08-13 WRX they upped the power so the edge is to the suby. Acura lost their way with the 2nd gen RDX. What I will say is if you want a Japanese turbo hatchback with torque vectoring AWD and leather with an auto; the RDX is it. And they're pretty cheap now.

I usually never leave comments especially long winded ones but this is a pretty neat story some will appreciate & since Mr. Geese dedicated sometime to it in the review: When I was about 10 years old when the RDX came out they had an exhibit outside a museum near my house. I got to sit in the car and listen to the new sound system. A gentleman explained all of the features and benefits. It was the first time music blew me away. I think we listened to an assortment of Eric Clapton. Fast forward 10 years later I went to a minor league baseball game to watch a new friend pitch. I never met this kids father and sat next to him. After talking for a bit I said, “I know this is a long shot but you didn’t happen to have been at a museum near town about 10 years ago talking about a sound system in an RDX?” Turns out he’s Elliot Scheiner and remembered meeting each other way back then. Super nice and humble guy. You wouldn’t know it for a second he’s this big time music producer. And yes he gets new Acura’s every couple years.

Took your advice and eliminated a lot of never use icons and now have four. Upper right and left. Lower right and left. Keep eyes on the road, slide finger to what corner of pad I want and push. That’s it. Two model years later, I think they’ve improved the paddle downshifting. It uses a lot of quick torque to get you lower fast. Doesn’t seem clunky to me. Great review! I just bought a 2019 RDX Advance so I've been watching a lot of videos. I can't stand the touchpad on laptops, but this one is wonderful! It took me about a day and now it's second-nature. I don't miss the cursor at all. I used to have a touchscreen in my previous SUV, and I couldn't stand all the fingerprints. Not an issue, yay! I laughed at turning off the screen, that's never something I wanted to do! I love the seats, the huge sunroof, the ventilated seats, the sound system, the visibility, and yes, the dash looks like a cockpit, it's one of the things that sold me. I don't find the USB ports to be in odd spaces at all, and I use that bottom shelf to hold a fold-up umbrella, it's yet to roll off. To each their own -- GREAT review, thanks! 🚘

Man!!! This review has more detail inside than an..X-ray and a CT combined with an MT together!!! No other RDX has been examined so good in the entire youtube and motor world worldwide. Now i must say this Marc! Have you really counted how much time you re spending examining and explaining the electronics in this car? I think that is about more than 30% of the duration which you re talking about the infotainment and the other electronics. Why do i write about that! The electronics have made us to talk about things which you and i and the most of the ppl consider not to be the essential in the drivers world but anyway i would buy this thing blind because beside its ancient and un funktional infotainment system i m impressed by its great engine, great suspension and great 4 wheel drive system and in generally active driving. Great car and i m a Lexus fanboy but most i m impressed once again from this excellent work you have delivered. By the way i want to say something about the trans. Every 10 speed where ever is implemented shows the same characteristics i really have to say the same things about them. Sometime i do wonder why they don t use CVT s in their products would be somehow more efficient and realistic.
@Jenna_5 жыл бұрын
CVT's are much less reliable than a traditional torque converter automatic (typically) and disliked by the vast majority of people and well-informed consumers/enthusiasts. Lexus makes their own 10-Speed Automatic, it's used in the LC500 and the new LS500. The infotainment I can say is clunky, but, so is Lexus' approach to car infotainment. Audi's MMI and BMW's i-Drive are some of the best in the business. The RDX is a great buy for the segment and undercuts the competition in price and uppercuts them in driving dynamics.

The RDX has the same problem Acura has had since at least 2014: You can't get the Sport appearance with all the Options. When I was at the dealer looking for a TLX he asked me if I want the A-Spec or Advance and I said 'uh both?' He then showed be 2 cars and it still hadn't dawned on me that you can't get an A-Spec with Advance. Went home, hit up the 'Build my TLX' page and "choosing advance will remove A-Spec". Wait, what? But I want the 15 features that are in the Advance but not the A-Spec. You don't get the remote start, heated steering wheel, wireless charger or a myriad of other options. If I'm buying a luxury car I want both. Fast forward 5 years and I'm looking to replace the car I bought in 2014. Oh the RDX looks nice. Same problem. Maybe it's just me but the Advance model looks extremely like an old-person car. All that chrome looks like a car from the 50's. I'm surprised it doesn't have fins. It's funny that they don't ever sample the cars to journalists without including the $2000 black wheels. Surely they've figured out that some people want any of the following features but to not look like a grandpa: Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers Remote-Linked Power-Operated Tailgate with Hands-Free Access Acoustic Front Side Glass Rear Camera Washer 10.5-Inch Head-Up Display (HUD) Head-Up Warning Surround-View Camera System Nope, they still haven't. Oh well, time to look at (literally every other 'premium' manufacturer) that gives me the option of sport and options.
@michalklucz69075 жыл бұрын
same with some Korean manufacturers in the UK. You can get 'sport' or technology, not both at the same time
@AFCompany5 жыл бұрын
The best you can do is get the Advance but with the black wheels option. Which is what I would do actually because Id want the wood instead of the carbon fiber and Id want the brown leather seats over red or black. But I hate the normal rims on the Advance I’d only do it if I could option the black rims.
@hamerplayer12295 жыл бұрын
@@AFCompany They have 20 inch optional wheels for the Advance but they are an extra $3200. The original wheels look like shit and ruin the vehicle. I also want the A Spec with the Tech and Advance package but Acura doesn't offer it
@AFCompany5 жыл бұрын
Hamer Player ya unfortunately A-spec is like Fsport. Just an appearance package. I find it so weird though that if you want an Advance model it can’t be with A-spec appearance. However they are releasing some Type-S models this year and you can get Type-S and Advance in the same package. But they are gonna be really expensive.

I mean, I have to hand to Honda / Acura honestly with the infotainment standpoint. At least they are using Android and it seems to be pretty quick. It's light years better than the Lexus junk. Coming from an IT guy, I can't wait for the day where some of this junk is open source where people can mod it. I mean, the mfgs can still lock stuff down, but it would be nice to mod a few things yourself. Keeping things simple is best I think. The OTA updates are great, but I have a feeling that after a few years support will just die. My wife can't get anymore updates on her 2015 Lexus RX350, I mean, that's bullshit, the car isn't even that old. Some 1337 hackers need to crack some of this shit! Great video Mark also really liked the opening music!

MrCarGuy20; Oh yeah, I'd much rather have a Lexus over this Acura, I have two, they are great cars and I can deal with their shitty infotainment, but it would be nice if they would step up their game a bit. Toyota doesn't like to change much and they like to stick with what is familiar and what works, so I get it. But I hope that someday they see that people want to mod a bit, or at least do some customizing.

Used cars were new once, too, and had the same "problem". Surface rust is not a safety or reliability problem. It's an expected side effect of the grade of steel used. Besides, who is looking under your car other than a mechanic?
@fcg2435 жыл бұрын
I agree. This is unacceptable for an Acura. And no, this is the first time I see this on a new car. Maybe the other manufacturers put some rust protective coating on theirs, but then again Honda/Acura quality has gone down significantly in the past few years.

Ask Jeep how they protect their exposed steel suspension parts. hint: Never look under a new Jeep if you want to buy it. Also, these cars sit at ports for days on end and the salt air is not kind to anything not coated, plus Mr. SG is in Chicago-land where there use A LOT of salt on the roads to keep people 'safe' and the roads clear-ish.

Echoing so many comments about this review. It is extremely well done and balanced. I watched it before and after my purchase, have had the car for 3 days now and it is really, really fun to drive. I did notice the shifting when jumping on it to get on the freeway and also thought is was a bit much, but still wow! My wife, who is not a techie, enjoyed driving the car but said the infotainment center was a turn off and would stay with her Hylander. She gave up on the mouse pad for the reason you stated and was frustrated that it seemed to select options she didn't intend. A cursor is needed. Still, I'm enjoying the car. The cargo area is the right size for me, I like the fact the 2nd-row seats lay down without having to adjust the front seats. The sound system is very good, the Hud is better than the Audi (IMHO) even though my wife turned it off. I didn't expect Acura would make the RDX so much fun to drive, I felt it was neck to neck with the Q5. In Sports +, the car even sounds differently.

They should hire him as a consultant to review and give feedback before a vehicle is green lighted for production. The cursor thing is spot on. That's something a 25 yr old developer couldn't think of, because they grew up on tablets and smartphones. But the vehicle has to be intuitive to a broad age range, and that would really help the 30-40 somethings who can actually afford it.
