Welcome back to my channel!
In today’s video, I’ll show you guys how to perform the majority of the items on the “Standard Maintenance” list for your 2017 Audi A4 (B9 platform) on your own!
You’ll see the majority of these maintenance items can be completed by you over the weekend thereby saving you A LOT of money compared to taking it into a dealership as well as an independent shop! In my case, due to it being winter and no way to safely raise the car, I had to take it into an independent shop (shout out to Gagan Auto Werks) where I had them perform a tire rotation, transmission fluid change, and brake fluid flush.

DIY Detail definitely a fun car. I bought mine CPO and recently also learned to do a lot of work myself on a Miata I bought as a project. I was looking to do some tuning and performance upgrades once the factory warranty expires. Specifically looking at the APR Stage 1 tune and possibly Stage 2 tune later on down the line

Yup same here! Bought it CPO and learning as I go on this car. I have the APR Stage 1 tune and it’s amazing haha. No engine mods needed and increased the HP to around 310 (with K&N air filter)

Your so right ! I took my Q7 2019 they did a oil change a brake fluid flush and a alignment that they recommended and it was 1600 dollars ! They maintenance has gone up like crazy ! I used to take my 2007 Q7 and just pay 160 for oil change and 250 for alignment and balance .

Oh my, that’s insane! But that’s close to what I’ve heard. Most of the charge is the labor, not even the fluids or parts. With a little bit of elbow grease or just finding an independent, certified shop - you can literally save $1,000s

@@DIYDetail I just don’t know if I can take it to a independent mechanic because of the certified pre owned warranty I rather it be all on file than something happen and they say it was not caused by them or failure
@DIYDetail
@DIYDetail 3 жыл бұрын
Mine is also CPO but certain maintenance items you can take to an independent shop without voiding warranty (like tire rotation, oil change, etc). You need to have a receipt to show what service was done. The dealer can only void the warranty if they prove an outside job was the sole cause of the issue (like a shop using the wrong spark plugs)

The miles are on a higher side so if it wasn’t properly taken care of before that, it could have a boat load of problems. I’d recommend getting a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) from a shop that specializes in German cars! They’ll inspect and give you a real run down if there any major problems. Usually costs like $150-$250 but can save you a massive headache!

Thanks a lot! You’ll need to either get the VAG COM tool and reset it or you can take it to the dealer and they usually reset it for free. I had the same issue and had to go in for a recall anyway so I just had them reset it there

@@DIYDetail It takes me by myself 1hr or so to do the whole job,brakes and brake fluid jobs are a total rip at shops ,i own a 17 a4 Quattro, bmw x5,Mercedes ml350 ,i do all my maintenance myself on them,you do not need for someone to hold the break pedal down, first open up reservoir extract as much fluid as you can with turkey baster, fluid extraction device etc ,add new fluid to the top put cap back on,you now have a bottle with old fluid in it 2 inch or so , get 2ft of clear hose that fits over bleeder valve usually 1/4 inch diameter put over bleeder valve stick hose all the way to bottle bottom so its not getting air back up line ,open bleeder,start pumping brake 10 times,go check when its clear coming out of hose at bleeder your good tighten bleeder done no air can get back in to brake system as hose is in fluid in bottle,start at longest run ,passenger rear ,then driver rear ,then passenger front, then drivers front,make sure check to always keep new fluid topped up in reservoir when doing this ,1 jack 1 clear 1 qrt or bigger bottle(water etc) 1 hose, 1 10 etc mm box end ,1 to 2 qrts dot 4 ,1 guy,no need to hold pedal down as you will not be pulling any air into the system easy job have fun leave hose attached to bleeder valve when you tighten bleeder valve so no air gets back into system

Great question! There’s a link to the checklist in the description! At the end of the checklist, there’s a table that gives you mileage specific maintenance items and on the first few pages is the maintenance items you’ll need to perform depending on if you are due for a minor service or standard service. Hope that helps!

Hey brother I have the same car bought it in April around 25k miles now at 33k drives perfect do you know when should I worry about new brakes & rotors?
@DIYDetail
@DIYDetail 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I actually just replaced mine at 56k miles. I still had about 50% left on pads but my rotors were starting to wear down. With normal use and braking, you should be okay until 50k! But it’s best to have them checked at each tire rotation (usually 6k to 12k miles).

good video. how do i change light bulbs tho, you can explain it, you dont have to change it. what is your trim level of the car
@DIYDetail
@DIYDetail 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have the Premium Plus (commonly referred to as P+). If you have the LED headlights and taillights, they don't need to be replaced unless the unit malfunctions. This would require replacing the entire unit. I did a quick search and saw some individuals replacing their halogen units with LED units so you could follow their video if you ever need to replace that. The interior lights, reverse lights and door panel lights are all LEDs. They shouldn't have to be replaced but if they do: 1. The door panel lights can be changed by removing the door panel and replacing the LED unit 2. The reverse lights are held in by a plastic cover, which can be removed by prying or unscrewing the cover 3. The interior lights require removing the plastic outer housing that is holding it in place and then removing the bulb from the housing. For the rear interior lights, search "antenna removal on A4" and it'll show you how to remove the rear housing. Besides that, replacing the turn-signal lights is pretty easy. I have a video that will be released tomorrow showing you how to remove the mirror covers and once you do that, there's one screw holding the blinker to the housing. Just remove that screw and the wire and replace it with the new one. Hope that helps!

In the US, the dealer would have to prove that the stuff you (or any mechanic did) was the reason for the failure! So in essence, as long as you used OEM or OEM equivalent parts and followed the appropriate techniques, you should be fine!

Do I void my warranty if I do any of the services on my own or a friend that is mechanically inclined?
@DIYDetail
@DIYDetail 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Bryan! Great question - performing your own routine maintenance does not void the warranty as long as you follow the manufacturers recommendation for fluids type, filters, frequency, etc. If you’ve modified any of the engine components (larger intake, new turbo, different oil, different spark plugs) that could void the warranty
@bryanpedro4192

Thanks man. I just bought my A4 B9 in December had it for 6months. Got my 50k service costed me $300.. the service rep said the 60k will cost me roughly $1200-1300. And I was like :O wth. I can’t justify spending $1300 every two years for spark plugs and an oil change. “So they say fluid changes”
@DIYDetail
@DIYDetail 3 жыл бұрын
It’s just overpriced in my opinion. They usually charge $50-$60 just to replace an air filter which takes 5 minutes and half the cost. Even outsourcing the transmission fluid and brake fluid change, I saved almost $700 doing it on my own. Over time that adds up lol

So far I haven’t run into major problems with it besides an oil leak, which was covered under warranty. Currently at about 45k miles and everything is fine. Just as most cars, maintenance is key so as long as you stay on top of the maintenance with these cars, you (hopefully) shouldn’t run into a lot of problems. These cars require immediate service once the check engine light goes on rather than waiting a few weeks like you would with Honda’s, Toyota’s. So far, fingers crossed, it’s been reliable!
