Just an FYI the Memory supplied with the XPS 17 - 9700 is 2933Mhz. This is faster memory and the cost for this memory is a bit cheaper than you pay when configured for the system. For the short money, you save and based on previous experiences with Dell tech support when you change out configured items I would recommend getting the memory configuration you want from Dell. This will most likely change in the future as costs for the faster 2933Mhz memory comes down in price.
@JuanBretti4 жыл бұрын
Hey, the links to the RAM are 2666 MHz, and the Dell XPS 17 9700 supports up to 2933 MHz. Maybe you could consider replacing your SODIMM recommendations.

I'm confident enough to do this myself now having seen inside my new DELL 17 9700 i9, and learnt a lot, like using the proper toolkit and plastic tools to reduce/prevent damage. I'm upgrading from 16Gb to 32Gb RAM, and putting in a 2nd 2Tb SSD. It came with 1 x 1Tb SSD. This computer will be my next rocketship after my 5 yo Acer Predator which still works champion. Great job.

How did you copy the data from your initial 500gb SSD to one of the 1 TB SSD's Did you replace one at at a time and then copy one to the other?
@andrecruz44844 жыл бұрын
@@etolbert4427 I used the free software Macrium Reflect to clone my 500gb SSD to the new 1 TB SSD. As I wanted to keep the 500gb as an external SSD drive, I bought a SSD enclosure case adapter, and used it to clone the 500gb to one of the 1TB first. After that I installed both 1TB to my Laptop. It worked great. If you don't have plans to keep the old SSD, and don't want to spend on the enclosure case, you can install the new SSD to clone it, and then replace the old one by the 2nd one (in my case, I had to format both new SSD prior to use it, and for that I used the Macrium Reflect).

Is it cheaper to upgrade to 32 or 64 ram yourself than buying the from Dell? I never upgraded something before
@ClarkPotter4 жыл бұрын
It is much cheaper to do yourself. I just bought one of these machines and it's much cheaper to upgrade yourself. Dell really charges a premium to have it ready-made with higher specs. I'm installing the Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB SSD drive which is much larger and faster than the default 512 SSD it comes with. You do have to purchase the video card you want with it ready-made though because I do not believe that's something they expect you to upgrade yourself easily. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though.

How on earth can you say that the max spec of xps 17 is useless. It comes with a Core i9 overclockable CPU. Nvidia Geforce RTX 2060 max-q, 2 TB SSD, 64 GB DDR4 RAM which makes it a beast for video editing, content creation, and gaming to some extent. Just try to be more careful with words next time.
@TooMuchTech3 жыл бұрын
I’m talking about if you’re *overpaying* for an easily user replaceable SSD and RAM so that you can save some money. Maybe *you* should be more careful choosing your words next time.
@MuzahirAli13 жыл бұрын
@@TooMuchTech No offense man, and you are doing good work, and heck I've chosen my words as easy you can understand and precisely. If you spend money and buy the max-spec of Dell XPS 17. It comes with RAM and SSD which is faster than the version we upgrade to or maybe equal to. When I bought my version of dell xps 17 with the 64 GB of RAM 2 TB SSD, I opened it up carefully without a single scratch. It had a Crucial 64GB Kit (2 x 32GB) DDR4-2666 SODIMM RAM which is according to my opinion the best choice and also even if we can take the SSD to 4 TB. How can you upgrade to the Core i9 version?
