First if all, you are among the elite in your field. I got rid of my 2021 3L baby D. It was plagued with problems. In 2022 it spent 19 weeks in the garage on and off for different things. I should emphasize that 19 weeks on and off was before August. It was remarkably fuel efficient but always broken. At the peak of the fuel gauging here in Ottawa Canada the price of diesel was the equivalent to over $9/gallon. Even now in some stations diesel is up to 60 cents/litre more than regular. I’m now in a 2022 refreshed Trail Boss with the 5.3. Oh also you really praised the exhaust brake. It was barely noticeable on mine compared to it big brother 6.6 Cheers

I discovered the screw up just before the truck arrived at the dealership. I walked from the deal. As much as I want the GMC, I'm going order a Chevy Silverado 1500 High Country with the Duramax with Max Trailering ... I'll learn to love the front-end.

In my opinion, I don’t think the previous gen interior was bad. It just wasn’t a big enough improvement over the previous gen. It was more of a lateral move instead of vertical move on Chevys part. I have a 2018 Silverado and I thought about upgrading it to a 2021 but I didn’t think the interior was nice enough to warrant the upgrade. In fact, there are a few things in my 2018 I like over the 2021. Not that I think it’s bad I just didn’t feel like it was any better in a noticeable way. If I bought the 2019 initially, I would’ve been just fine with the interior.

@@79champions Then you haven't looked for them. I've done exhaustive research on this powertrain because I was planning to purchasing one, but not anymore. It's not just the engine, but GM's poor reliability, in general. Frankly, I'm not a fan of any of the full size trucks at the moment because they all have some kind of issue(s). The only full size truck I'd buy right now is the Nissan Titan, but it's a gas hog, so it's out of the question for me. I'm actually looking at the Nissan Frontier now, which isn't a pinnacle of capability, but it'll be adequate for my needs. At least it's affordable, reliable and gets decent fuel economy.

Nope, it was originally designed by VM Motori for Cadillac. VM Motori was 50% owned by GM from 2007 to 2011 when Fiat acquired their share, the bulk of the engine designed for the euro market CTS became the 3.0L EcoDiesel. The engine design had been “sitting on the shelf” when FCA was created by the merger and it was decided it was a good fit for FCA’s North American products.
