Run it thru the 1st time and on the 2nd pass turn the whole thing 180 degrees and everything comes out because your rolling it thru on a different angle. It's so cool when those die cuts come out clean and nicely cut.

Excellent idea, and I must say that I absolutely love my Cuttlebug!! I left a cutting mat in my trunk on my way to a quilt class, it warped from the heat and can't be flattened. I'm going to cut that mat immediately! TFS, enjoyed your tutorial.

I seen a video here on youtube by Cherry Lane and they said not to use dryer sheets bcuz it will end up dulling ur dies to point that they won't cut anymore. Just thought I'd mention it.
@urbanchili4 жыл бұрын
I bought an unbranded die cutting machine and it have 3 dial buttons so I can run any (almost) thickness through, meaning I can use any dies and embossing mats. The cutting mat is also some kind of hard, heavy rubber, so the dies doesn't get dull so fast. The instructions say, that I can put the dies under it or onto it, as long as the part that cuts are towards the mat, so the dies doesn't warp. I am sure that goes for all cutting machines since all it do, it run the items through a rolling presser. I think this is a great idea, using a self healing mat, this will also prevent dies getting dull as fast as they are bound to do with an acrylic plate.

Great tip! I bought some small cutting mats at Dollar Tree and Daiso that I’m going to cut down for this purpose! Also, the risk of breaking a die cutting machine is real, folks. I had a die that was manufactured poorly, and was trying everything I could think of to get it to cut cleanly, so mixed and matched plates from my Gemini Jr and Big Shot, and added some paper shims here and there. I figured I could certainly tell if a combination was so thick I’d break my machine, but that wasn’t the case. A ‘snug fit’ proved to be TOO snug and I ended up breaking my Big Shot. :(. Thankfully Walmart had a new one for only $50 I picked up. It didn’t come with the platforms, but I already had them so was happy to get it at that price as a replacement.

Thank you for your comment. I was talking about only the used mats that you or anyone might have. I know that they are expensive. I would not tell anyone to go buy something like that. It is jus a way to get the most use out of an old mat.

Hi Bobbie! This is my first time seeing your video and just FYI it was the EPIC machine (it came out yrs ago but not a lot of people got it. I DID though) They were the ones that had the self healing mat instead of plates. I don't know why Cricut and all the other companies keep ripping us off by having us buy plates! It makes me so darn mad, when we still are buying their things. They could make these self healing mats for all their machines and customers, but they won't, so we have to find out how to do it ourselves. I'm glad you made the video, but everyone needs to know, that if you do this, and you break your machine by doing this, they will not fix it. (I don't think they do anyway because of "wear and tear" because of use. UGH, big corporations rip offs! Well that is my gripe for the day. lol (See my comments below about the magnetic mats and where to get them for CHEAP) Bobbie, I LOVE that die! Could you please tell me which one it is and who makes it? Is it a Cherry Lynn die? I only thought that because of the color. I would appreciate it very much. I SUBSCRIBED and gave a THUMBS UP! Thank you and the other women, by the way for letting people know. I also needed to know how to get those mats cut. OH, for Magnetic mats, that are very inexpensive, (I use them to put my dies on and then put in plastic bags and file them) Home Depot has them in the Plumbing Dept. They are magnetic mats that cover your heat vents in the winter. You get 3 large magnetic mats for about $4. They are good, decent magnetic material. Not to thin or thick. I've used them for the last 3 yrs, but like I said, I cut them up and use them to store my dies on, but they work. Hope this helps someone. Going to get my hubby to cut my Self Healing Mat. I have about 4 of them. Might as well put them to good use. Now, I just want to get that die. It's beautiful. I think it is either a Cherry Lynn die or a Anna Griffith, but I may be wrong. I would appreciate anyone's help. Thank you!

Victoria Ciolek S Hi Victoria, let me ease your mind. It is a Heartfelt Creations Die called... Sweetheart Borders Die. Yep! Is is gorgeous! Ok, I agree with you 100% about the big companies and their policies. I love my Cricut but, their polices are the worst. I don't use either of those machines anymore. I did it for the video because, they are popular and common . To be honest. I use my Cut and Boss everyday. I have had it for 4 1/2 years and never had to replace the plates. I use a piece of 65# cardstock and I cut down a cheap Dollar Tree packing envelope. I put between the bottom plate and the shim plate. Cuts like a dream on that Die. Thank you for being open and honest. I like those qualities in a person. Let me know how it works for you ok. Hugs, Bobbie

I found I use a used dryer sheet, one layer, cut to fit the die. The original you tube video I saw said to use 4-5 NEW dryer sheets, and suggested Dollar Tree to save $$. I used several that first time, but decided to try a used sheet, ONE LAYER to match the size of the die, and it works perfectly. I just save all my used dryer sheets and have some whole, but to save time, cut several into 6 rectangles since they can only be used once. They simply peel right off the die. wonderful technique...and I thank the crafter who discovered it !

I used my very large and very heavy metal guillotine paper trimmer to cut the self-healing mats very quickly. (I don‘t think a regular guillotine paper trimmer could cut them!) The edges were not sharp and I just rounded off the corners with a scissors to make sure they weren’t too sharp.

To be honest. I don't know. I would think so if the mat was about the same thickness or less than the plates. I would not try using the mats and the Raspberry plate. So Bobbie, have you tried using the Jr. plates in your large size Gemini, using the same sandwich that's cut to the correct size of the smaller plates? If you're not using dies that are larger than the smaller plates, that seems a less expensive option too! Just wondering...😉 😊
@ButterflyDreamdesigns5 жыл бұрын

Thanks Bobbie! I've had my Gemini for at least 7 months and haven't even used it, mainly due to the expense of replacing the plates. The manual gives instructions about reversing and flipping the plates after each use, but when they're shot, then what?! I've been using KZbin as a learning tool and your video sounded much more logical than some others. Besides, there aren't a lot of videos using the full size Gemini like you use! I think I'm going to now get brave and get out my Gemini and play. Thanks again and some great big bear hugs to you!!! Blessings...

I am so sorry. I have been really busy over the past few days and just saw this. I will tell you the truth. If you use the metal shim that comes with the machine. It will help save your plates. It takes most of the beating and not your plates. I hated my Gemini for a long time . Then I started to use the metal shim and I see a big difference in the plates. Give it a try. Happy Crafting. Why dose it take so long to get to your point!
@ButterflyDreamdesigns5 жыл бұрын
Connie Lamborghini Normally, it would take half the time but, I showed it on 2 different machines. The point was that , you can use it on multiple machines. A lot of people want to see it. Not just hear about it. I am sorry you did not like the. video.

For goodness sakes, lady, stop blabbing and get on with showing us! Sorry, but we are here to see your technique, not listen to you repeat and repeat that it isn’t your idea…!

I'm sorry but, if you don't like my blabbing then I suggest you don't watch my videos. Have a nice day!
