If that shank spins in your collet on the mill, the collet as well as the shank will be gaulled. I’d recommend you mill 3 equally spaced flats on the shank and use it only in drill chucks on the mill or in a hand held drill. Purchased shanks are made that way. Purchased shanks also have a spring loaded collar with a pin to engage the off center hole on every hole saw so the threads on the shank do not do the driving which causes the shank to be jammed in the hole saw. Very clear presentation.

Try holding round parts on their ends in a vise when possible. It is safer and prevents the tube from distorting especially when the hole is finished.

A hole saw arbor always comes in handy. Thank you. Although using one in a hand held drill as shown at the end, without a pilot drill in the center, is not recommended.
