Savi's Workshop Gives Cheap Plastic Bags with $240 Lightsabers! Star Wars Galaxy's Edge

Just this last week guests of Galaxy's Edge in Disneyland and Disney World.. have been carring around their expensive hand-built lightsabers from Savi's Workshop in flimsy plastic bags. According to 1 guest, staff are not willing to compensate guests AT ALL for the inconvenience of carrying their 2.5 lb lightsaber all day in a theme park with nothing but a plastic bag that doesn't have handles!!
Is this simply the consequence of a supply chain problem, or could this be the work of the Evil Bob Chapek... trying to cut corners and save money anywhere he can??
Can we expect the nice black protective lightsaber bags to return? Or will they be another cost cutting measure, forcing guests to pay an extra $50 for the nicer souvenir lightsaber bag.

I just built my lightsaber a week ago at Disney in CA and I can confirm you do get a black cushioned bag. They must have been sold out or back ordered when you went. Also, I felt the dang experience was so rushed. Seemed staff wanted us out asap to bring the next batch of people. They rushed through the building process leaving me confused trynna figure out what goes where. Each saber, after tax, runs about $240. I expected a better experience overall. Saber is sturdy and cool. No complaints there.

That bag was a part of the experience. It felt like smuggling a lightsaber past the first order according to my friend who did it. She also enjoyed the bag, and the experience. Plus, the bag protects the saber, since they are delicate with there leds and there hilts. But, how to you fly or drive a lightsaber home? Where do you put it? Its so stupid that they are increasing the prices and giving you less bang for your buck, and giving you a heavy hilt and long blade. I do have a theory about why they are out, probably because of increase in price of supplies or to cut cost. Also, a carrying case is different than a plastic bag, like very different, one is easy to tear, and disposable with no handles, while the other is made of a fabric or canvas(can't remember), is not disposable, and is actually worth at least $20 to make, and not to mention has actual handles and wont slip out of your hand while carrying. Great video though, also I didn't know they were raising the prices and adding fees to all these things, which some are essential, very useful to know. Sounds like Bob really or someone who Bob likes is a cheapskate and kind of greedy though.

Hey Comrade. Thank you for that very thoughtful comment. I completely agree. I mentioned somewhere in the video actually that it's very easy to fly with the saber in its bag. It fits right up in the upper storage compartment. Flying home with just a plastic blade is a recipe for disaster.

It’s kind of insane. They sell products that are of significantly less quality than non partnered companies for the same if not higher price. Then they pull stuff like this, I understand it’s Disney and you want the experience but it’s 100% because they know people will keep buying no matter how bad their output is.

Hey Thorne, I completely agree with you. Even if it was just a supply issue, telling people that a plastic bag is the same as a carrying case is just rude. The old Disney would have given everyone discounts and crystals to make up for it.

Kate Harder here - thanks so much for your video! You are totally right that not having the case was a really important part of the experience. And, it was kind of ruined by how Disney treated me. That will always be what I think of any time I look at the lightsaber. I want to correct one thing. I did not drop the new lightsaber. But it was slippery in the bag and I knew if I carried it around in that plastic bag it would either break through the end or I’d drop it somehow. Add in the weight and having to use one (or both) hands to carry it around the park all day and I decided to go ahead and ship it home rather than end up with a broken saber. I had it in my possession for about an hour (including the time standing in line with the first guest services guy) before I turned it over for shipping. I did receive it within a week and it arrived in good condition - although their packaging makes me wonder how it survived.

Thanks for making more aware of this, Disney needs to address this. Clear Plastic Bag != Carrying Case, Bag != Case in any form. Glad that my son and I got them 2+ years ago when we went to Disneyland. Hope it is just a supply issue that they will get fixed soon. We do need to go back to ride RotR since that was not completed yet when we went. :(

It’s so upsetting seeing Disney only paying lip service to the Star Wars fandom with this new park. - Not allowing Yellow or White lightsaber crystals (despite the Gatherer’s devices having 6 slots, one for each of the 6 colors) - Permanently Removing 6 of the original 10 Legacy Lightsabers! (Temple Guard, Rebels Ahsoka White sabers, Asajj Ventress, Mace Windu, Anakin/Luke/Rey’s Blue lightsaber, and Obi-Wan’s) - Raising the price of ALL of the Legacy Lightsabers, and now the price increase of the Savi’s Workshop experience. - Requiring everyone to constantly make reservations for practically ANYTHING in the park. and lastly - The absurd price of the Starliner Cruise hotel/experience.

I would imagine that Disney is not immune to supply shortage issues that plague the rest of of the world during a global pandemic. I built my first lightsaber with my son yesterday (04.23.21) and the black carrying case was included.

For those concerned about the bag, the carrying bags have returned. If you pay for Savi's Workshop, the bag shown in the beginning of the video is provided. However if you decide to purchase a legacy lightsaber, they do have different bags for those available to purchase. The purchasable bags and the bags provided at Savi's Workshop are different but shaped the same (for exclusivity).

@@rodrammer3999 yeah! I just went a few days ago and it was a blast. just fyi for the rides, the millennium falcon ride was fun but it's not worth the long wait (at least for me). I did the single riders line when the wait was 45 minutes and hopped on in like less than 10 minutes. you probably won't get the pilot or the gunner role but the engineer role is pretty fun. as for the rise of the resistance ride, it breaks down a lot. when I was there, it broke down twice but it's literally down for only 15 minutes at most. so if you find out it's down, try to get in line then because a lot of people leave the line. if you're considering fast pass, that's probably the only SW ride that I would buy it for. I waited in line when it was supposed to be 2 hours wait but it ended up being 3 hours wait (this wasn't due to the breakdowns though, just how many people were in line). the wait is completely worth it because the ride in total is like 15-20 minutes long. definitely my favorite! hopefully this helps you out, and I hope you have a great trip!

I was at WDW when this happened. The CM mentioned it was a supply shortage. She didn't say it, but the way it was described sounded like it was pandemic related. I got the 10% discount. A lot of people just took the sabers back to their rooms if they had them earlier in the day or bought the premium bag. As of Friday Jan 14, they still had plenty, unlike other items at the good star wars shop.

Went to GE at Hollywood studios in Orlando last week. They had the clear bags instead of the black ones. The person at the register apologized and gave a 5% discount on the build experience and also a 5% discount one the premium case at the store. Went to GE in Orlando in Nov. and did the droid depot. After, they stuck my R2 in a plastic bag. I asked about the carrying case it was supposed to come with and they offered to sell me the backpack. I asked why I didn't get the carry case cardboard box and they said they stopped doing that. I asked another cast member and they said they ran out and a third said they didn't have to give me anything. Definitely a letdown as I have seen multiple videos put out from Disney World visitors right around the same time with the boxes. If you ran out, that's one thing...but you could make it right as that bag ripped within 15 minutes of leaving the depot. Thankfully, I was at another store at the time and they gave me a thicker plastic bag with reinforced handles so I didn't drop my droid. Overall, the bag experience was way disappointing.

I felt a bit cheated paying the inflated price when I went back in September but if they tried to pull that bag nonsense on me I would have lost my mind. I always saw it as a good value because for a saber with a removable blade it’s pretty cheap but to not have a way to keep it safe is just blasphemous. They should at least give you a voucher to get one at a later date if they are actually out of stock

@@FindingTheForce I just moved to Florida and I have the pleasure of living next to a retired Disney resort management veteran of 35 years and he told me that the whole infrastructure and Disney changed once Bob Iger and a slew of executives got into the mix and the priorities are all out of whack. At one point He stated “Walt Disney would shut the place down if he saw what it had become” Granted this saber bag situation is very little in the grand scheme of things.. Disney just tries to get one over on the guests time and time again as if they don’t realize, entry alone is expensive, like everything you pay for is a stand alone purchase. It’s just unfortunate, people should be guaranteed what they pay for and reimbursed accordingly if fulfilling their promise is not possible

I actually asked if they would send me a case when they came back in stock. They told me the plastic bag was the case and that would disqualify me from getting “another” case. They also said it would be too much work to track everyone who didn’t get a case and then have to ship them out once they come back in stock.

I just did this experience 4 days ago and the black bags are back. I believe there was some sort of stock issue and they were allegedly offering a discount on the more expensive canvas bag. Currently, the black bags are back and they are sold out of the more expensive bags.

So I've been hearing more and more on this topic. I'm either very lucky or this really didn't take affect till after, but I had heard of this before my recent trip. I had gone on 1/6/22 to Hollywood Studios. My little cousin had come from Peru, and to really make his childlike wonder count as they can hardly travel out of Peru, I had paid for him to enjoy Savi's. They had given us the sleeve for his saber, and he can safely take his newly crafted saber back. The barrel that had the black sleeves looked plenty full. So was rather confused on how they were "short stocked."

Been a life time fan of Star Wars and Disney all my life I’m 40 years old and been going there since I was 6 I’ve just come back from Orlando today and haven’t been to Disney for 4 years I can say with out a doubt worst experience of my life and was so let down by Disney the magic has gone from there for me most of the galaxy edged product was out of stock o canceled my build a saber after they ran out of bags and refused to give a discount I ended up having to pay a scaler money for one of the replica sabers as that that all i wonted since the park opened up spent over 5000 getting there Only to be let down when i got to the park and will probably be my last time now Unless there’s a massive change in how Disney work Mr Bob No Peck is the start of that

Just saying my piece, my brother and I made lightsabers at Savi’s the day they ran out bags and we weren’t even given the plastic bag. We travelled just under 6000 miles for the experience. The extra crystal we got was cool but I think the bag itself would be better.

I just built a lightsaber there last week and received a bag with mine. However, they are not selling the scrap parts again and I only had one activation switch option when I built mine. They are out of white, purple, and red kyber crystals too. There’s probably a supply chain issue.

Droid Depot at Disneyland will hold your saber for you for the day, ship it to the front of the park, or to your house for a fee. I do still wish they included the nice foam carrying case but for those without the option, Droid Depot is the place to go if you need a place to hold or ship your saber and it’s cheaper than the $50 bag separately!

Update : I went today and got mine. I was fortunate to get the carrying case/bag. It's a game of chance to get one. You could get lucky and go a day when it's available as well as you might go a day they're not.

It all sounds really crappy, I hope they have bags again soon. I don't even want to imagine what it would be like, I'm from Germany and would love to visit one of the two star wars parks and build droids with my kids, build lightsabers at savis workshop. Sith and jedi holocrons and extra kyber crystals...but what if I really managed to travel there and there was nothing there? I would cry.

Yeah Bastian, that would be pretty devastating. I guess the souvenirs really do make up a large part of the experience. Although if you were patient you could probably have some smuggler ship you some items back home in the future. But I hear your point. Thanks for the comment.

Just got into Orlando today (technically yesterday since it’s 3am) going for one day today the 14th got my reservation at 905 for savis. Kinda disappointed because we have had this planned since beginning of December and a week or so before we left all these supply issues started happening

When I went (November2021) they were out completely and gave us an extra kyber crystal instead (Disneyland) they also told us in the marketplace there was a bag that you could buy in the market. (A very nice bag) for 60$ in the marketplace.

Hey Joshua, thank you for the comment. I really hope you guys have a wonderful trip first of all. I'm going to update the first comment on the video that the bags have returned and it seems that it was a supply chain issue. I just don't know why Disney wasn't upfront and apologetic about it in the beginning. I definitely think you should do the experience because if you end up regretting it later you can always sell the Lightsaber and probably even make 20 bucks. Ha ha but it really is a magical and super fun experience and I don't think you will regret it.

My 24 year old daughter built hers on 12/24 and luckily they still had cases then. Whether it's a supply issue or not, they should have offered a discount initially. Sorry a clear bag is not a case, just another fu from cheapek to the guests. I bought a legacy saber and blade at Doks, they wouldn't hold it, wouldn't send it to my disney resort, so I either had to carry it all day, drag it back to my room or send it home for $18. I had it sent home, took 10 days.

Those chunky hilts should at least come with the bag for that much money. I think I heard that they have resolved the problem and you do get the bag again. The price didn't change back down though.

If my $3000 custom guitar from Kiesel guitars came in a cheap, flimsy gig bag instead of one of their custom molded softshell cases, yeah I'd be pissed too. That bag ALONE is enough to make me reconsider doing this on my trip in April

I was there (Orlando) last week (the 5th) and there were both plenty of the regular padded cases as well as the ones you can purchase 🤷🏻‍♂️

They ran out of the standard cases sometime in the evening of 1/6/22 or morning of 1/7/22. They didn’t have the case at 11:30a on 1/7 and were encouraging people who asked about it to get the $50+ one.

The bag itself kinda sucks too but if it was free it was a cheap way to protect your $200 lightsaber. I got one on offer up for $100 and it had the bag. Let someone else take the hit and get bored of it.

Hey @Finding The Force I’m been doing research on videos all this week and last week from recent videos and apparently they do have the saber bags that comes with the experience to protect your lightsaber for both Disneyland and Disney World but I hope when I go in July 17th they will have them! My guess is it’s temporary, definitely should cut the cost down to $200 for the experience but in all reality my bag has sat in my closet since I got home. Forgot I even had the bag. Material shortages and shipping are a real thing right now so I’m not surprised at all by this news. Last time I went to galaxy’s edge they didn’t have a single saber for sale. Not one

Hey buddy, I think building a light saber was $240, and I think building a droid was between 80 and $100. Both of them now come with some kind of carrying case, sounds like it was just a supply chain issue.

The fact that the $50 bags sold out gives Disney justification to ditch the free padded case altogether. It’s a great experience but frankly, I think I’d rather buy a third party from Saberforms, SabersPro, Mazsaber etc as the hilts are less complicated & much easier to handle especially for tricks & the like. Hasbro’s Force FX Elite series are good replicas but again, some are not easy to handle for long periods & prone to tech issues (Kylo Ren’s being a case in point). As for Genie+, I’m betting that when Tron opens, it’ll be a THIRD individual lightning lane that you have to pay extra for in WDW rather than downgrading one of the two existing experiences to Genie+.
