In addition to having supplies available at home, I liked to have something like soup cooked and ready to eat all the time. I make large pots of soup, and have servings frozen for when I just can't face cooking anything. Even in the summer, especially if you are not feeling well, a nice bowl of soup (with no effort!) is a real treat.

Thank you for your talks.. being prepared and stocked up is very important for every household no matter the the age and number of people in the home. I live in Ontario Canada and our food prices have gone up too. I just wait for the sales and buy a bit extra. Saving just a bit of cash is good too. I stop myself if I think I need more clothes or other household stuff.. I used to be such a shop person. I stopped that now. I just shop my closets now. :-) Hope your cough goes away soon. ta ta for now.

It's great that you already have that system in place! Considering it is so helpful, this learning curve seems more than worth mastering and then to hold on to those habits 😊😊😊

Looking forward to Soup Season ❤️ stocked up for winter. Aldi is our essential shopping store. Walmart is for everything else. We shop every two weeks. It works for us.

I don’t know how we would have coped recently, when I broke my shoulder, if we hadn’t got a stockpile in, from too good to go bags we had some instant just warm up meals tucked away in the freezer, easier for my husband at the beginning 👍. You never know how your life can change in an instant!

Thank you for this lovely channel and chat feels like a warm cup of tea at the end of a hard day xxx you have a way of addressing problems but in a friendly accessible way , think this is a real gift x I have had a lot of set backs for many reasons including cost of living , just when I thought life was about to get a bit easier . Need to think about what sort of preps I can do , not necessarily for big crisis but just to make daily living more manageable. I bought a big freezer back before things got so hard and so I’m going to start using it to help . Also maybe batch cooking or baking , but I’ve noticed with teenage boys the more I cook the more they eat lol . Need a plan. Thank you for your inspiration and lovely posts . Best wishes to you and Patrick and Kathleen and Mandy and Your lovely cat xxxxxx

Congrats on the big freezer Tracey, I found mine was so helpful for batch cooking which saved me from having to cook after a day at work.

I call myself a planner. We are enjoying very plain simple meals from freezer and pantry, since the garden is just starting to come in.

I had a stir fry last night made with one chicken thigh, I added extra mushrooms, red onions, peppers and bean sprouts from the freezer to the chicken and noodles and made enough for two meals.

Batch cooked beef mince in a basic tomato sauce portioned in the freezer is the base for quick meals. It's ready for a quick spag bol with extra tom puree, or in with a can of beans for chili, burritos, all sorts. I do the same for the quorn mince my OH eats. In summer one of our favourites is baked whole feta or grilled haloumi with salad and pittas. Both cheeses are long life and can be kept even longer in the freezer. A bit of salad from the garden and its a meal.

I change my shopping habits by spending more time shopping, so that I have time to find alternative shops. I don't shop at one supermarket. I also avoid buying too much to avoid food waste. I just bought one lemon today and the shop keeper wanted me to buy more. I don't things that will cost me more in the future ie no pets or cars. I don't even have kids so I also won't have to pay for stuff for grand kids.

A really quick nutritious meal is a couple of switched up eggs, seasoned and with a little bit of chorizo suasage or other cooked meat and a chopped up tomato or other veg. Put into silicon muffin cases and in the air fryer for about 5 - 7 mins. Even better is to make 4. eat 2 hot with veg or baked beans and the other 2 as snacks or with salad. Takes very little time. Even the beans can be heated up in the air fryer in a pan.

Supermarkets here in Australia have done a swifty by raising prices then dropping the increase by half then trumpet their generosity to consumers. The record profits tell the story. B#st#rds🤯 sorry I am very mad😡🤬.

That was why fish & chips became the national dish. After 12 hours in the factories and mills the workers wanted cheap, hot, nutritious dinners, and fast.
