12oz of Impossible Meat is much closer to 1lb of regular ground beef than people realize since ground beef shrinks by close to 25% during cooking, this isn't the case with Impossible Meat which only loses a small amount of weight from the coconut oil rendering out.

Exactly! Whenever I "veganize" or "vegetarianize" a meat based recipe I never have trouble when using Impossible as a 1:1 ratio (1oz of Impossible to 1oz of real meat).

This is the first time I caught emmymade's video first, so i knew exactly what you were going for! I think you nailed the texture she had, even though I initially thought it might be off a bit since impossible meat is a bit less dense uncooked. Whenever I buy impossible burgers, I get the 6 frozen patties (24 oz) for $11 at Walmart. It'd be more work to thaw those out but cheaper to start! Anyway, I'd still prefer homemade black bean burgers in order to save money. You can really make those super cheap!
@blackrosenuk

I make something VERY similar to this but I add a drained can of corn. I've always thought of them more like fritters. I've used both the impossible and beyond bricks for it. I sometimes mix in a mixture of xfirm silken tofu & pureed beans (usually black). I generally use fresh oat flour (that I just make myself in a food processor) & I then add a little bisquick mixture, the amount of which depends on how liquidy it is. I generally skip the just egg, but I've made it with and without the "egg".

I saw Emmys recipe and didn't make the connection right away! Tried yours as given: absolutely fine! I kept thinking "he's reinvented the McDouble!" I'm diabetic and follow almost a keto diet, and made a few notes for my second try. Maybe add some more beef flavoring. Vital wheat gluten and/or soy flour instead of part or all of flour. Maybe some oat fiber. If it could be done without turning the burgers into a nasty pile of rubber, perhaps the addition of a little more thickener, such as Tara gum, guar gum, or xanthan gum. If it wouldn't be cheating, maybe some pea protein or soy protein, to compensate for the "extra" ingredients in the Impossible Burger. Looks like I have a new kitchen experiment. Wish me luck.
@ryanc9

I was also thinking that he could have added some of his usual beef flavoring liquid to increase the burger taste, since the “cream/milk” and flour would just dilute the mock beef flavor.

My thoughts aswell. Most people probably don't even realize you don't get a pound, but that lower unit price makes it much more competitive sitting next to the per lb prices in the meat aisle.

Soon as she mentioned “Soft” meat only I thought maybe just back off on some of the extra liquid added to make a thicker mixture for a more thick “Meaty” texture which I bet would be a tad better overall, I believe you kinda mentioned it in your last lil comments too. I know it would defeat the cheapest way of doing it but as you said still be cheap compared to using the impossible meat only. I might try this one day, thanks for the video !!!

That's a really interesting concept, thinning impossible meat out. I definitely would experiment with other things than Just Egg. It annoys me that you have to use the whole thing of Just Egg within one week of opening it and it cost like 4 bucks. I probably would add some flax seed powder. I would probably put in half as much milk as well or I would add in some finally chopped mushrooms (you can grow blue oysters really affordably and the substrate quickly pays for itself). I do love the Next Gen milk. Definitely the closest replication of whole milk on the market.

Leave the Impossible Meat out and you may have something... Seriously, how much does the Impossible contribute? Maybe substitute TVP chunks hydrated with meat flavors and a bit more "meat" seasoning? I like the "burger pancake " concept a lot though. I like the idea of creating something that isn't trying to mimic meat directly but creates an entirely unique food concept. Hmmm. Maybe add sausage spices like sage and some maple syrup. Stack them up and it may be a bit like that sausage-pancake McGriddle concoction at McDonald's.

It's funny that you mention "Recipe" wasn't in the original video as you never publish yours, apparently gram and liter are such weird units, and I'm not sure if it's a gimmick but doing the recipe "as it goes", without mentioning the final proportions, you aren't sure yourself if it could be better. Oh and can you explain us how you reach 35c per burger when the impossible meat alone is 35c per pancake.
