Art, I admire your persistence. I have to do the timing belt on my Touareg and I learned a lot from your video. Thank you. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you.

When I bought my touareg in 2017, I specifically went with the V8 because I thought it was the best overall engine in terms of reliability and value. I was totally wrong. That engine costed me so much money. Specifically, everything around the engine. The engine itself is okay (minus all of the leaks). I honestly could have went with a V10 and had a similar (or lower) cost of ownership

V10 is a total nightmare what you mean. Cool engine and sounds awesome but engine out maintenance sucks. These V8’s are one of the best and very reliable. If maintained that is of course. And wrenching yourself helps with cost. Not sure what made yours so expensive.
@ogalief
@ogalief Жыл бұрын
@@Jmoraa timing belt job was $1,400. The water pump that the shop put on started leaking two years later, and that was another $1,400. Lots of vacuum leaks, rear main seal leaks, valve cover gaskets leak (even after being replaced), spent a ton trying to fix an engine light (ended up being a combination of vacuum leaks and weak fuel pump), the generator went (20 hours labour at the dealer), flex pipes went and costed a thousand each because they’re almost impossible to get at with this engine, and it’s on its fourth PCV valve because of a stupid design (even the $200 factory one didn’t hold up). The only thing that hasn’t gone yet is the cam chain tensioners. Those are gonna be quite expensive when they do. I’ve been changing the oil frequently to delay the inevitable. And the engine has to be pulled to change the starter. On the bright side, it doesn’t burn any oil. Just leaks it. The engine sounds incredible, has great compression, and ample power. But for the headaches that come with it, I should have went with the V10. They’re not much worse, but at least they’re better on fuel

@@Jmoraa also, I do basic maintenance and oil changes on my own. But I don’t have the resources to do things like replace the generator or timing belt on my own

Sit on it for week or two, get some opinions, inspections by others, ask forums and other online places and see what happens Its harder for someone so close to see the bigger picture, someone else can help you for sure to clear up stuff so you can make the next move a smart move GL

If I was dealing with just the oil pressure issues, that would have been very solid advice. However considering the amount of metal shavings in the oil, this engine is a ticking time bomb. At this point it can have all the oil pressure in the world and will still blow sooner or later. I’m leaning towards keeping it and putting in a new motor though.

привет! Ты нашел откуда шел стук при работе мотора ! Это был натяжитель цепи????????
@artemvysh
@artemvysh Жыл бұрын

@artemvysh
@artemvysh Жыл бұрын

Given the amount of bearing sparkles you have in the oil this all adds up. Once the oils is fully warmed up and thin, it runs out passed the journals and therefore not building sufficient pressure. Try some thickness modifiers or some 20w50 race oil to remedy this. I’m thinking that with oil pick up blockage the warning would’ve appeared immediately.

I tried, impossible to do with engine still in the car. And if I’m gonna pull the motor I might as well change it with one that hasn’t chewed through the bearings this much
@davianceable

You had to change oil pump but you keep driving it so you damaged the engine more
@artemvysh
@artemvysh Жыл бұрын
Oil pump failure is quite uncommon on these. Much more likely that the pickup tube is blocked, almost everyone I’ve discussed this with said they have come across that. In reality the engine damage was already there because I bought it like this

@@artemvysh İt is clear that cam shafts have dirty oil sticked everywhere so it is cleary showing that whoever use that before didnt change oil regularly so same picture surely all over inside engine so bad that user before you really beaten up the engine.

I remember trying to do it a little bit, but it was hard to find the bolts without any research and knowing where they are. So I just didn’t bother as it was clearly not needed

You fucked up bad when you removed the cam and tried to re-time them. You should have gotten a new chain and solenoid. That was your failure. Now it probably hit a valve... Needs a head rebuild.
@artemvysh
@artemvysh 9 ай бұрын
The solenoid and chain were brand new from the PO. When he timed it, he was off by a tooth hence my timing codes, all I did was retime correctly. The only issue here is the oil pressure, which as I later found out was due to a clogged pickup tube. I opted to replace the motor and until then drove this thing a solid few hundred miles on thicker oil (misfire free), so there’s def no valve damage.
