Once upon a time I had a Wood-Mizer. After sawing out a million board feet I sold it for a grand less than I paid for it. It was truly a much better investment than almost anything else I have ever spent my money on. In fact after tens years I still have lumber in the barn. It`s better than money in the bank! Good video!

The Hearth is the base (floor) of a fireplace and may protrude into the room. The mantle is a shelf that is mounted over a fireplace.
@arthurmccorkle2525 Жыл бұрын
If the hearth were the floor of the fireplace, it would burn up the first time it was used. The hearth extends out from the floor as you have labeled it. Its purpose in most cases is to sit on, or to just beautify the fireplace itself.

I call it a mantle. A hearth is an opening for a fireplace as in “come here by the hearth a warm your bones”. A mantle is where you hang your Christmas stockings on. Just my opinion.

The oak mantel pieces look exceptionally nice, and make a good addition to the friends fireplace. It shouldn't be too hearth to really mean mantel.

Here we have two things. One is a "hearth", the other is a "mantel". Generally speaking, a "hearth" is the floor of the fireplace where the fire sits. A "mantel" is a lintel supporting the masonry above a fireplace, or a shelf above the fireplace.
@duanemiller5606 Жыл бұрын
The hearth can also be the section in front of the fireplace so if a log rolls out of the place will land on the hearth to keep from burning down your house. It’s sort of an extension of the floor of the fireplace so in a way you were right Although both surfaces can be different materials Such as fire brick in the fireplace floor and granite just outside in front.

I have a new hobby plus wood shop. Setup for any kind of furniture or wood projects. I would love to have some of that wood for making cutting boards. I have a friend that owns a commercial saw mill one mile from my house but about 99% of his wood is southern yellow pine for construction. He rarely gets any hard wood in. What a bummer. I make cutting boards out of expensive wood like pecan, walnut and the like. I have to order that wood and it is very expensive. Therefore I have to charge a small fortune for the cutting boards that most don't want to pay. Just the way it is.
