I wish this was on the instruction manual. Also didn’t know you can bend the cast iron. Now I gotta tinker with this again.

Thank you for posting. That’s great timing realigning my TS wings was on my to do list for tomorrow morning.

I’m glad they displayed the text (< 0.010”) because when the voice-over said, “Less than one ten thousandth of an inch”, I was shocked. That would be (< 0.0001”), whereas (< 0.010”) is “less than one hundredth of an inch” which is a huge difference. (Sorry. Just me being picky…)

I played that back several times too. Then came to the comments to make sure I wasn't the only one.

thanks, I was also confused. < 0.01" seems reasonable.

Was off 0.025” initially on one end for one wing. The Above alignment method worked like a charm with a milled piece of wood coupled with and F- clamp. Highly recommend using the F style clamp in lieu of the standard pressure clamps (better control with the screw compared to the trigger).

Is one ten thousandths of an inch .0001" while ten thousandths of an inch .010"?

That feeler gauge looks thick enough to be 0.01" not 0.001"

Wait. The cast iron extension plates are “flexible”?” There is nothing to “draw up” an extension as the bolts are tightened. Alignment depends on my brute strength. After working an entire afternoon, I got them close but only close. I then attached the 52 inch rails and spent another afternoon aligning them. Them I placed the laminated extension table on the rails, per the instructions. Immediately the weight of the table and the rails themselves, combined with the leverage in their 52 inch length, simply pulled everything out of alignment. Why do the instructions say to install the legs that support the extension table AFTER placing the table on the rails? The video helped me understand the extent of my alignment problem. But I don’t have the proper tools to “flex” the extensions and hold them in place while tightening the mounting screws.

Video says “make sure there’s no more than a one ten-thousandths inch gap…” but obviously means “…a ten one-thousandths inch gap”. Fortunately, there’s a subtitle to make the intention clear, but the narration is confusing. It’s around 1:38 in the video.

This process was extremely tedious to say the least. I was unable to level the wings until after I had the rails installed. The outside edges of both wings were high with >0.010” variance. It was 0.020” on one side. I was able to get the wings leveled once the front and back rails were installed; however, it still wasn’t easy and took a long time. Having a second person to push the edges of the wings down would have been very helpful. BTW SawStop online chat tech support told me the outside edges were too high most likely because I had “overtightened” the bolts. That was wrong and was a very bad start to my relationship with SawStop. Also, there is nothing in the manual warning about overtightening.

So I’ve been struggling with my inserts ever since I got the saw - they just never want to sit flat no matter how much I adjust the screws. After watching this I checked my main table and one of the diagonals is wayyy off. Like over double the tolerance! I only have a feeler up to .024” and that one slides through fine. This may be the cause of a lot of my issues - all subtle, but enough to make me crazy sometimes. Otherwise, I love the machine so lets hope SS support can help out with this.

I'm wondering how many layers of tape moves the outer edge by 1/32"? Otherwise, adding one strip at a time will be a forever task.

For what it’s worth, I used packaging tape which was approximately 2 thousandths thick and it resulted in about a 20 thousandths effect. Hope this helps. It solved my flatness issue with the wings.

The middle of my extension wing is higher than the sides. What should I do?
