That song was THE song for soooo many people back in the 80's myself included. Introduced me to Peter Gabriel and made me a life long fan. To this day, that song still means so much to me and it's been 30 years. John Cusack even showed up at a Peter Gabriel concert, brought a boom box up on stage when he started to play "In Your Eyes", bowed and walked back into the crowd. Pure class and a great homage.

This movie was written and directed by Cameron Crowe. He also wrote and directed Jerry Maguire and wrote Fast Times at Ridgemont High. But my favorite film by him is Almost Famous and you should definitely watch it. It's a semi-autobiographical film about 15 year old Cameron scamming his way to write for The Rolling Stone. It's his coming of age story as he tours with a rock group. Kate Hudson makes her debut, there's even a Jimmy Fallon cameo. A great film I'm sure you will love...be sure to watch the director's cut, called "untitled." Keep up the great work, I really enjoy your reactions.

Man, I remember seeing this in the theater! Interestingly, when Cameron Crowe wrote the boom box scene, the song he loved and they used was To Be A Lover by Billy Idol, but it didn’t work. Crowe then got in touch with the band The Smithereens and asked them to write something. They did and Crowe tried it, but again it felt wrong. That song was a big hit for The Smithereens called A Girl Like You and was featured on their album, 11. Crowe randomly put in a mix tape while driving in his car and THE song came on. Before he knew it he’d fallen in love with In Your Eyes but Peter Gabriel was protective of the song as it was very personal to him. But Crowe submitted a request and a screener of the film so he could see how it worked in context. Peter called him back and said while he was flattered to be asked he was going to have to say no because he just didn’t see the song as being right for the scene where the guy died from the overdose. Peter had seen a screener of the John Belushi story thinking that was the film. Crowe said that it was the movie about the high school kids, to which Pete replied he hadn’t watched it yet. He agreed to call after he did, and once he saw the film he said yes.

It’s so honest and real feeling and even though I wasn’t a teenager in the 80s the characters come off as relatable and the movie doesn’t really feel dated because it doesn’t rely on the fact that it’s a 80s movie. It’s a movie about people and that’s why it works for me.

John Cussack helped shape me into the person I am today. starting with Say Anything. At the time, I was late teens, and it showed me what it is to be a genuine, sincere real person WITH another person and that you cant do that without overcoming the fear that stands between you and loving other people. Fear of asking them out. Fear of saying "I love you." Fear of the breakup. Fear of a broken nose and getting knocked down. The best things stand on the other side of that fear, hoping you'll cross over. The movie was so powerful, i only saw it once. That's all i needed and didn't want to go back and tarnish the memory. Thanks for posting this...i relived it, by watching you.

Cassie, you have now watched two of the movies that defined my perspective on romance: Say Anything and Pretty in Pink. This is obviously a special one that could only have been made in the eighties. The scene where Lloyd and Diane break up made me very emotional. My first love broke up with me for a friend of mine, and that scene brought all of that crashing back. That first heartbreak is so vivid and surreal. At the time I couldn't believe it happened and it's something I will never fully recover from. Anyhow, John Cusack is one of my favourite people of all time and I hope you explore his filmography further. Better off Dead is one of his best and I look forward to you seeing that for the first time! Grosse Point Blank is also a real gem, and I hope you get around to that one too.

Between directors Cameron Crowe and John Hughes, the story of modern youth was definitively told. This is one of the better ones. Lloyd Dobler became a goal for many young guys, like me, in the late 80s/early 90s. I had the pleasure of watching a screening of this film with Cusack presenting and discussing afterwards. I thanked him for the realistic portrayal and showing a way to act in the relationships with the women in our lives. Most examples in common media aren't very positive, let alone life-affirming. By the way, glad you're doing reactions just for you. Old men like me prefer more variety in our portfolio - this is a break from the relentless comic book movies and space-cowboy operas. Romcoms, classics, and even non-English-language movies would not be amiss. Cheers!

I have a suggestion for a Cassie-Pick, it's called "Beautiful Girls". It is kind of obscure movie from 1996 so I don't think it would win in any polls either. It is a well written story about a guy who goes back to his home town for a reunion and to think about his future. There are some big names in it with solid performances from Timothy Hutton, Matt Dillon, Natalie Portman, Uma Thurman and a great monologue by Michael Rapaport. I'm sure you'll have plenty to react to and you'll probably like it. No guarantees but it's more than worth a shot. Here's hoping you pick it! Thanks for all the entertaining reactions.

I think you might like Some Kind of Wonderful, Can't buy me love and When Harry Met Sally . I am still in love with Lloyd. And In Your Eyes is the perfect song. I Absolute love 80s romanctic comedies perhaps because it was unapologetic about being romantic, about love...people are more cynical and afraid now. People seem ashamed to be so openly about romantic love and the need for someone else, people think it's cheesy or corny, plus, in the case of movies, people are way too sensitive nowadays that everything has to be too careful to not offend anyone that destroys real emotions, human actions and mistakes, chances and improvement, which were so great to see in some romantic movies. F that, give me romance and real human emotions.

After spending the last month getting your nerves rubbed raw for our entertainment, it’s nice to see you apply a little salve here with this lovely, charming film. I’m probably joining everyone else in surprise that you haven’t seen Say Anything before - surely this is your kind of movie - but am glad you’ve finally gotten around to it. Makes one wonder what other films like this we wrongly assume you’ve watched, and will be surprised to see appear here. (You said it's not a movie that would get a lot of recommendations from your viewers, and this is probably why.) Cameron Crowe also made Almost Famous, and wrote (but didn’t direct) Fast Times at Ridgemont High; both are worth watching if you haven’t done so. He was one of the first filmmakers to realize you could make movies for - and about - teenagers without the films (or the teenagers in them) being stupid. I didn’t see this as a teenager (was probably 22-23 when I finally watched it), but rather wish I had. It’s a good enough film that anyone should like it, but if one sees it at the right age I’m sure it would be quite something.

Cameron Crowe is one of those writers and directors who wholeheartedly believe in the truthfulness of his characters. A lesser talent would have made an unapologetic villain out of the father but he didn't. We feel for him and we feel for the genuine relationship he has with his daughter, being an only parent. Growing up I only saw parts of this movie and like you, watched it in its entirety very recently and even at this later age liked it. I'd been a fan of other movies Crowe had written, "Singles" and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" especially, and recognized his knack for great, likable and relatable characters.

While John Cusack and Ione Skye were excellent, John Mahoney was incredible as Diane's father. Although he deceived her, and didn't always "Say Anything" to her, as he claimed, you also see where he's coming from in forbidding Diane to date Lloyd, since he thinks he knows what's best for her. I loved how Lloyd was always there for Diane, and was a far better influence for her.

@bekind3931 2 жыл бұрын
@19wulfy69 I don’t know where you get “lack of confidence or condescending” … first, those are two opposite things; second, it’s BS. Any growing channel not doing it is clueless about business. (See where they are in a year or so.) Only established channels w/subs in the millions can afford not to say it every vid. The power of suggestion is not a myth. It’s a valuable tool that every single business must use. It’s why every burger joint always asks if you’d like fries w/that. Bc the answer is almost always, yes.
@19wulfy69
@19wulfy69 2 жыл бұрын
@@bekind3931 yes they are two opposite things, never said they weren't. People can do the same thing for different reasons. Yes advertisers do many things the same way and it will work on most but not all I am stating my opinion, and I know others feel the same way because the have told me so, unprompted by the way. The rest of your statement is opinion not fact. I know some young channels and old that do it equally as effectively also many adds that stand out break the norms of what all the others are doing. I really hope you have the strength to not get fries anytime someone asks if you want fries with that. The power of suggestion only works on some, enough that business make money. That doesn't make it right. I bet you would agree sex sells but is way overused and not necessary. Maybe not, maybe you feel the current standard is fine there too. As I said from the start this is my opinion and everyone has a right to theirs. You say a channel not robotically repeating the same sentiment is clueless about business as if it were a fact. I think it's innovative and refreshing. EVERYONE has the right to their opinion and just because it is different from yours does not automatically make it wrong.
@bekind3931
@bekind3931 2 жыл бұрын
Your response is baffling. “The power of suggestion only works on some …” like it’s a deviant trick intended to swindle customers. It’s not a character flaw to buy more when it’s used. Just might be something the customer hadn’t considered or didn’t know about. “… enough that business make money.” Uh, yeah, that’s the whole point of business and what separates it from hobbies. Saying that it’s not fact it’s an essential business tool makes me assume you’ve never worked in customer service, sales or started your own business. It’s like one of the first rules. That’s bc statistics show an uptick in sales whenever you simply ask customers if they want this or that. Doesn’t mean everyone will buy it. Means more ppl buy when you ask, and that’s the point. Now, obv, it has to be a product/service ppl feel has value and that they want to use and enjoy, which Cassie has, so she shouldn’t feel shy asking ppl to subscribe. If you enjoy her channel, idk why you wouldn’t want it to grow and for her to be successful or why you think she should be embarrassed about it. Again, baffling.

One of those friends got in a car wreck and died only three months later at the age of 18. It’s amazing how much she’s missed out on. How much we’ve all missed because that happened. It made me think a lot about my life and how I’ve lived it since. In many ways it’s been strange/unusual. I’ve been lucky and unlucky, but mostly lucky as I got a chance. This movie is all about using one’s potential and seeking your best future. Having courage. It’s sad not everyone even gets a chance.
