It was Meg's idea to "act out the O" in the restaurant, and Billy Crystal wrote the famous line "I'll have what she's having," spoken by director Rob Reiner's mother Estelle. You can go to Katz's Deli in New York City, and (at least the last time I was there,) there is a sign above the table "This is where Harry Met Sally. Hope you had what she had."

Has anyone mentioned that Billy was improvising the whole 'pecan pie' conversation. Meg genuinely started to laugh and turns to Rob Reiner expecting him to call a cut but he was loving it and gestured to Meg to keep it going. Genius directing, genius acting and a genius film. In my top 10 for Billy's final monologue to Meg about wanting to start your life with someone straight away. Love it.

Unlike so many romantic comedies, I love the fact that this movie doesn't rely on external circumstances, or misunderstandings. It's just two people, each trying to work through their issues, and stumbling along the way. This is also a great New Years Eve movie, which is far less common than Christmas movies.

Another 'behind the scenes'' note is when writer Nora Ephron and director Rob Reiner went out to eat, Nora actually ordered her food the way Sally did. Rob said this is hilarious and must go in the movie.

This movie is based in part on Nora Ephram’s (writer/Sally) and Rob Reiner’s (director/Harry) relationship. The original ending had them meeting years later after going their separate ways. I feel they made the right choice by changing it.

This Is Spın̈al Tap - Rockumockumentary Stand by Me - Coming of age The Princess Bride - Fantasy comedy When Harry Met Sally... - Romantic comedy Misery - Horror A Few Good Men - Courtroom drama His production company Castle Rock (named after the town from Stand by Me), has been the de facto production company for Stephen King movies like The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Mist (all directed by Frank Darabont), in addition to the Rob Reiner directed Stand by Me and Misery.

You're not wrong about Billy Crystal being a performer. He started his career in showbiz doing stand-up comedy, gradually finding parts in TV shows and movies. So in a way, hosting the Oscars was going back to his roots.

@frankrossi69729 ай бұрын
It’s basically an “Annie Hall” remake, but with a plot overhaul (can’t say how without risking spoilers). I suggest you screen “Hall” and see where it all began. It has similar social awkwardness and a quirky sensibility. Ryan’s career trajectory was rather straightforward: a bunch of TV stuff in the early ‘80s----then a big break in “Top Gun” launched her film career in the late ‘80s. However, Crystal’s trajectory was more circuitous. He began in standup in the ‘70s and was supposed to do a set on the first “Saturday Night Live” in 1975, but he was cut for time and reportedly was devastated. However, he got his big break two years later, landing the role of Jody on the TV sitcom “Soap.” He has been in several big movies, but they are scattered, from the late ‘80s to the late ‘90s, including “Running Scared,” “Harry,” “City Slickers,” “Throw Momma From the Train,” and the “Analyze This/That” movies----but strangely enough, he’s probably most well-known for a cameo role in which many viewers may not have recognized him, as “Miracle Max” in “Princess Bride.” However, he’s been a very successful producer during this time, though, so he didn’t need steady film success.

I really enjoyed your reaction. It felt genuine and heartfelt - especially your immersion in the viewing experience and emotional reaction during the climactic scene. As beautiful as the movie moment itself. This is one of those movies that's worth viewing every year or so. It's funny, emotionally fulfilling and uplifting, and never gets old. Also, unlike some older movies, it has aged well. As you loved this one, I highly recommend to you a movie called "What If", a 2013 romantic comedy starring Daniel Radcliffe, Zoe Kazan, Adam Driver, and an otherwise very talented supporting cast. Like "When Harry Met Sally", it involves a pair that are friends who have to navigate and come to terms with the deeper feelings that they have for each other. It's funny, witty, and emotionally rewarding, with a perfect cast (and a surprisingly effective modern-day-character performance from Daniel Radcliffe). Thanks again for this delightful reaction.
