Thanks, appreciate that! Just got a 1964 model 80 dump cart gifted to me in really nice shape. Plan to restore it this summer and will look sweet connected to this 140.

Originally started off rebuilding the engine to use it but one thing lead to another.... Turned out too nice to put into service so just drive it to the neighbors every now and then. 😅

Thank you Kenneth! Now I need another project, maybe something larger this time. Either way I will be taking the summer off from restoration projects.

Very nice restore job. I don't think the small tires and wheels are original on a 1974 H3. I have a 1974 all original 140 H3 serial number 63768. This has to be a very late model. Thanks.

Beautiful work! Best I have seen of all restored Garden Tractors. I finally have my JD 140. It is a '71 and looks identical to yours. I am restoring it. Where did you get your carburetor and would you recommend it? Mine is worn out beyond rebuild. Also, my headlight grill is in good shape except the sticker where do I get a new sticker and what paint works on the plastic to repaint it black. Your whole tractor looks new!

Awesome 🙂 Glad you like it. Let me dig up some receipts and get back to you. Can't remember off hand but there is a website that I used primarily to find factory pics and part numbers.

I sourced parts from Ebay, Hapco, GreenPartstore, and local dealer. Got the carburetor from the local implement - AM134552 but not sure it's even made anymore. I used the parts diagrams on www.greenpartstore.com. Click on John Deere Parts Catalog tab and then enter your model #. Once I gathered all the part numbers, then started the long journey locating the parts. Many parts I found on Ebay like the gas tank and front grill. I used Rust-Oleum JD farm implement green and yellow purchased from home depot. Also bought a P95 paint respirator and pistol grip adaptor for the rattle cans. Rust-Oleum black plastic paint worked great for the headlight panel. Purchased the replica hood from J&D lawn tractor and they also have some useful parts. Purchased the fuel level gauge through Ebay, AM31189 Hartville hardware. The transmission charge pump rear housing seals are listed incorrectly in catalog. You will need two Hydraulic control shaft oil seals PN# AM3426T Both my seals were leaking badly and would drip steady when running. Good luck in your journey 👍

@@raincitywrench117 Thank you. This is priceless information for me. I really appreciate it.

Was the paint purchased from JD? Where? Were you able to use spray cans or did you have to purchase a spray gun set up? It looks better than factory-new!
@benkanobe75002 ай бұрын
Where did you source the original replacement gas tank? Did they have the gauge as well?

Looks like you have a 1973. The later years are more desirable. 1968 1001 1969 10001 1970 22401 1971 30001 1972 38001 1973 46501 1974 56501 Final Unknown

Is there a way to modify these to move the seat back somehow on a 140 H1? I'm buying one but I'm 6'7" and I have a feeling I won't fit well on it
@raincitywrench1172 күн бұрын
The two seat springs have slots where the bolts go through into the body pan for seat adjustment. Mine are slid all the way to the rear. I suppose you could remove the two springs and cut the body slots out so they extend further back. I think there is still enough metal to get a few more inches 🤞

I have a 1974 H1 and I need a hood, where did you get yours? Also, are you sure that is a Dana 20? I thought it was a Dana 30. Art from Ohio PS; How much money do you have invested altogether and what would it take to buy it? I know it is not for sale, I am just curious. Oh yeah, you seriously did an outstanding job restoring this old jewel.

Got the hood from J & D lawn tractor in Mendon IL. 217-440-8365. $310.00 total with shipping. Total with initial tractor purchase price, parts, sand blasting, etc, was close to 5 grand. Yea, I misspoke, it's a dana 30. It was a real fun project and would do again. I'm kind of weird in that I had more fun restoring it then using it after it's done. I got a first year dump cart -believe 1964- from a friend that's hooked to the back of it right now. Will probably restore it this summer. Can't wait. 🙂 Thanks for watching

J&D lawn tractor out of Mendon IL. $275 bucks, not quite as nice as original but saved me countless hours trying to restore an oem unit. I had to call them direct to order, you can't do it through their website.
