It has the separate faction choices that lead to slightly different endings like NV and the whole lost family member that turns out to be a great scientist thing from Fallout 3. Also i found Fallout 3's campaign to be the best, NV felt kinda dry and 4 just boring (but that's just my opinion).

Fallout 3 screwed up on the rich lore the previous games held and could of expanded upon, they took off cool little interactions such as being a pornstar. They took off the top down perspective game design. they took of the humor that made Fallout such an entertaining game, the writers and creative artists in this game simply doesn't compete with the first 2 Fallouts. I do love Fallout 3 and New Vegas but its not exactly a fallout game. Its a post apocalyptic first/third person action-RPG

Definitely not the worst game, and not even the worst fallout game. However, in comparison to Fallout NV from Fallout 3 or even Fallout 1 to Fallout 2, Fallout 4 does fall short (very short) to several expectations. These expectations include replay ability, there should’ve been a whole lot more to do in what was supposed to be a very big game. Another thing would be RPG elements, the game felt extremely linear no matter what faction you sided with, 9 times out of 10 you’re going to get the same ending with absolutely nothing changing at the end of the game. No matter what you do, almost nothing changes dependent on your actions. Kill a few people in Diamond city? Awesome! They’re hostile for a few days and then act like nothing happened. Pick a faction to side with and beat the game? Great! No one will see you any differently, maybe aside from a few lines of dialogue. You don’t feel immersed. It’s almost as if you’re this tanky, wasteland legend that rummages around burned buildings and barely changes anything. If these things were slightly altered or put into the game in full force like Fallout 2 and NV, then it could’ve been the best in the series.

Thewaywardgamer Its doesn't know what it wants to be. It's got a half baked rpg system implemented into a farcry like shooter and the main quest is pretty bland. Its not a terrible game it just doesn't rise above a position of being average. As rags said in the video, people are really disappointed because of how good the previous game in the series were. Fallout has always been a deep rpg that focused more on the quests and role playing side of things rather thsn the combat. Fallout 4 did the opposite of pretty much every other fallout and stripped down the rpg parts of the game and made it all about shooting and looting. If you like farcry or games like ghost reacon wildlands then you may want to give it a go, just know that vehicles aren't really a thing in fallout. But if you care more about story and role-playing in your games, don't touch this with a ten foot pole. Its deceptively interesting at first, but will leave you feeling very disappointed and underwhelmed around the 100 hour mark. Uf your like me you'll feel like you just wasted a bunch of your precious free time on a game that wasn't worth it. I've beat the game and most of its side quests so hopefully you feel my opinions on this game are pretty well grounded.

Besthesda have took no responsibility for it, then they release "Skyrim pretty picture mode" They have just totally proven that they do not give a rats ass about their player base and are going to continue to pump out what amounts to nothing more than conveyor belt pop songs. Bethesda promised a lot with fallout 4 and then totally failed to deliver, The main quest is pretty much a carbon copy of fallout 3 you get left in a vault and escape to find father (your son in 4) The BoS quest plots IS a carbon copy of fallout 3, you assault the enclave (institute) with Liberty Prime (After finding parts to get it functioning) The story is very, very badly written, the interactions between the factions make no sense at all, often with you standing watching a fight between the BoS (your current faction) and a quest npc from another faction. It's dense. I've not even mentioned Preston. The dlc's far harbour and nuka world are carbon copies of point lookout and the pitt. Just different pictures. The settlement dlcs featured things that should have been in the game at launch. You ask why people want to keep pointing this out? because if we don't and if we allowed fan bois and people with a vested interest in promoting such garbage to keep on doing so without answer, then the next bethesda game is going to be A LOT WORSE. You really should get Todds cock out of your mouth because YOU are the problem with games. "Disrespectful"? The game and season pass was £100 in Scotland, that's more than a weeks rent money, so you tell me that I pay that for a game and get totally lied to and ripped off and I'm the one who is disrespectful for pointing that out? What do I know? Well I'm one of the people that bought Arena and Morrowind when it they released, back when games were not the big business that they are today, I'm one of the people that supported a young company called "Bethesda" when they were making realy shit sports games. I'm one of the people that were responsible for them having money to make Oblivion, I'm one of the people responsible for championing those games, the break through they made and the gameplay challenges they gave us because without all of that, you wouldn't have "Skyrim give us cash edition" You wouldn't have fallout 3 or 4. at least not made by bethesda. So when people like me point out that all of those good things that built the company are gone now and you're being sold a stripped out pretty picture in it's place, then maybe we have a RIGHT to say these things. The choice is what made Fallout well... Fallout. If you can't complete a quest fifty different ways or just say 'nah' or shoot the quest giver in the balls then it ain't Fallout. The older games were far better. Yeah, 4 has far superior gun play, but it's an RPG series, not a shooter. Fallout 4 would be better received if they didn't associate it with a series known for role play and choice, elements it severely lacks. It's not a bad game, but it's not Fallout.

Gameplay... eh, it's outdated and can be difficult but a bit of perseverance and it becomes immersive and *gasp* fun. It's focus is storytelling, atmosphere, choice, and agency. And it still holds up in that respect. Seriously, people still play text based RPG's today, you have no right to dictate what people should or shouldn't play or what deserves to be in the can. And no the concept isn't still in 4. In 4 you are given a life and a name straight off the bat. You have a family you're meant to care about and a past life that dictates what you're meant to be good at. That ain't role play. They remove the skills that were a crucial part of every game prior to make it a more streamlined looter shooter. Again, that's not Fallout. You have so little agency in 4, one example: Kellogg, you MUST kill him, you can't talk your way out of it, you can't convince him otherwise, you can't even avoid him if you don't really care. You do what the devs demand you do. You just keep turning the page. That's more of a storybook than any of the other games. You write the story in the others, you don't just play one out. That's role play. That's what Fallout is. Like I said, it's not a bad game, it's just not Fallout.

On the points that vaguely relate to what I said, the fact you HAVE to kill him to get to the institute is a problem. We'll take NV and the Brotherhood for example, you can stumble on them of your own accord, be sent there, or waltz in with the right companion. There are always multiple means to reach the ends. You're just reinforcing my point that they take agency away from the player in that respect. You do what the devs want. And yeah, it's a more involved plot, because it's more like a storybook lol. It holds your hand through the main line, all the dialogue options amount to yes/yes/yes/no/sarcastic yes. You really just don't understand the appeal of Fallout. You're out for a good game, and that's fine, but don't pretend it's the best Fallout, because it really isn't. Gameplay wise, yeah it's superior, but anyone who really knows Fallout knows it's far, far more than just good Gameplay, hell the combat was atrocious in 3 and NV and they are both buggy as shit but people still go back to them. The appeal is in the simplicity of plot and the complexity of the world and player action. The first didn't need an intro beyond giving you a reason to explore the world, two gives a brief connection to one then does the same, again with NV it's the same thing, it's up to you who you are, what yu want, and how you do it. And in 4 it's not a new character, it's a changed character. You're still a slave to the devs concept of the pre-war character's motives and goals, albeit with whatever play style you want. You still don't get to choose what your character wants. They tell you. One more time, for the people in the back, ahem, that ain't Fallout. I'm not telling you to stop playing it, I'm not telling you you shouldn't enjoy it, I'm not an asshat (unlike a certain someone in this thread). The loot in Fallout 4 was trash anyway. The legendary weapon system kinda broke the unique weapon system fallout NV had. Like the AER laser rifle.... those were the days. Pepperage farm remembers. F4 is a mindless shooter which is massively below average regarding every aspect a good shooter needs. Who can honestly say, he/she/it played Fallout because of it's awesome combat mechanics? Shooting in Fallout is rather a interlude between getting to people and places. At this point, i'd rather play a Fallout 1&2 in a modern isometric engine and ui as a remake than even so much take a look at F5 if bethesda develops it. Honestly, this was my first Fallout game, so I didn't have anything to compare it to, besides Skyrim. I enjoyed it, probably a lot of it had to do with the settlement building and crafting. I enjoy making stuff. A personal issue I had was how many NPC's don't die. I should be punished for not taking care of my settlements by having settlers able to die. It'll make me want to arm them and make good defenses.

Its worth noting that in Morrowind, you could literally murder *ANYBODY*. Noone was spared your wrath. That said, the game would warn you upfront if the person you killed would prevent you from finishing the main quest. You could, if you truly wanted to, make a game where you just play as a serial killing monster and murder every single person across morrowind and there would be few repercussions aside from inability to finish the main quest.

I thought Fallout 4 was alright as an open word FPS game, but didn't work as a Fallout title. It was very watered down & I felt very underwhelmed by the amount of decisions in the game. Also, the RPG elements were nearly non-existent. Your backstory is set for you and your character has a voice. So if I wanted to role play as a criminal, for example, my character would still sound like a goody two shoes white guy.

+Creative Equinox Don't have too much faith. Bethesda agreed that Skyrim had too much focus on radiant quests, and what makes up 1/3 of the quests in Fallout 4? Each game that they release sells more and more, so expect Elder Scrolls VI to double down on Fallout 4's streamlining. It's been that way post-Morrowind. If Bethesda announced Elder Scrolls VI tomorrow and it forced you to play as a voiced Nord, I would not be surprised at all.

Fallout 4's Strengths - World / Locations (Fallout 4's world is the BEST in the series. Bethesda shines brightest in that department, world building is their forte. It really shows in Fallout 4 with locations like the USS Constitution, Covenant, Salem, and a lot of unmarked locations with great environmental storytelling.) - Crafting System (Like crafting or hate it, can't deny that Fallout 4's crafting system is a good addition to the franchise. I mean, Fallout 3 and New Vegas had crafting to an extent, but nothing on the level of turning shotguns into sniper rifles, and adding a jetpack onto Power Armor. Ah, now that reminds me.) - Power Armor (Don't even need to explain this one.) - Companions (Fallout 3's companions were god awful, New Vegas' were better, but Fallout 4's are top notch, excluding Preston. Preston is still a good companion, but he got the unlucky role of being the annoying radial quest giver. As for the others, they have interesting dialogue, side quests, and their own compelling backstories.) - Settlement Building (Don't need to explain this one either. It's new to the franchise and worked great.) I'm getting tired of typing at this point so I'm gonna make these last ones short. - Combat - Legendary Weapons, Armor, and Enemies - Memes Well, there you have it. Fallout 4's strengths. There goes a good 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

Play the Witcher 3 to see how that's done. -The companions These are the second to worst companions in the series(only behind 3). They all have one "crazy" trait that defines their personality. And they can't die so even less attachment to their safety. -legendary weapons, enemies No, this isn't an Elder Scrolls game. You can't just add legendary items to a setting like this, it makes no sense thematically at all. Not to mention that legendary stuff is ass compared to crafted gear. And really? Some random bandits mutation into legendaries? Lazy as hell. -game play It's a lousy shooter. Enemies are bullet spongy as hell cuz someone thought that leaving out the option to no have enemies scale. It is satisfying to blow someone to pieces but it takes 4 shotgun shells to the head to do do. -crafting This is really a plus. Just some stuff doesn't work right. The Pipe weapons are awful and generic. You can't just have one gun that can become the others that's lazy. If you want a custom revolver you should have a revolver to work from, not an assault rifle.

I'm finally playing Fallout 4 and I didn't like it at first and thought it wasn't as good as the last ones, but it's actually kind of growing on me, I haven't bought any DLC yet but so far there is just *so much* to do in it. Obviously the RPG elements have been significantly dumbed down, but if you're into exploring, there's actually so much to see and like others have said, if you just take it more as a slower borderlands style RPG with tons more crafting, then it's a lot more enjoyable. At this point, I wouldn't say I love it, but it's a fine game to pass the time. Just my 2 cents.

As a person thats been playing Bethesda games sense Morrowind that the distance they have been making from actual RPG mechanics especially in the TES series is hurting the franchise. @@blackhat4206 oh I agree. Honestly I get really tired of a lot of fallout fans acting like new Vegas is the “perfect fallout game”. Dude it isn’t. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it’s bad. It’s a great game but it has plenty of flaws that kind of irritate me. For example the karma system is completely useless. One time I did an independent Playthrough as a good character. However it doesn’t matter if your character has a good moral backbone the independent ending always ends in anarchy outside of Vegas. That makes sense for an evil character but A good character? give me a break. The karma system actually mattered in the third game because if you’re a good person people will be a little bit more cooperative with you. Plus there were some missions in new Vegas that were pretty bugged. It’s the same issue with the fourth game.

The more I played Fallout 4, the less I liked it. Now, I'd rather not play it all. In fact, I hate Fallout 4. It's insulting. It doesn't feel like an actual RPG with branching choices that actually matter. I understand that Bethesda was trying to appeal to a wider audience. Actually, the reason I even bought Skyrim when I was in high school was because my friend told me it was a watered-down RPG(at the time, I didn't really like RPGs much. Since then, I've become a huge fan of them). But this trend of watering RPGs down comes at too high a cost when you're talking actual game quality and replay-ability. There's barely anything to the game. I know what I'm saying isn't the most original opinion, and that this has been said ad nauseam, but the game is just boring. Fallout New Vegas is far superior.

Bethesda makes great games. I am currently replaying Morrowind and Oblivion. I have lost count as to how many times I have played through them. I would play skyrim if my computer would run it again. I kinda got a downgrade because my old computer busted. However, I think most of the problems lie in Bethesda's engines. Isn't Fallout 4's engine just an updated version of Skyrim's? Why can't Bethesda create or use an engine that matches something like the beauty of DOOM, with the genius of Morrowind? Why can't we have a REAL first person/third person RPG anymore? I would prefer that Final Fantasy was more like back in the day (1-5 and 9) but that doesn't mean games like FF15 isn't a Final Fantasy. I would prefer it if XCom was a classic strategy tactic game but that doesn't mean the modern XCom games aren't XCom games.

And that was all it had going for it. Building defenses in your bases was a joke. The leveling was bland and everyone eventually had the same build. Spent more time crafting than anything. Settlements weren't an improvement in my opinion. It felt like a pain in the ass. I was so excited to build my settlements all over the world, where ever i wanted to. Instead it was limited to "go kill the monsters and set up a satellite, now babysit the people who live there constantly otherwise they'll die, even though you gave like 10 of them assault rifles, shotguns and sniper rifles". Base building should be presented with as much freedom as possible. The game should NEVER tell you how to build or where to build. I only ever built what the game told me to, and i eventually tried a bit of it just to see if it was fun when not forced. Problem was that building is completely fucked in the game, to the point where you have to find a WIDE open and FLAT space (near impossible btw) to build a house or something, because if 1 spot isn't even enough you can't build there. Sorry for ranting about that btw. The game just pissed me off SO much.. And that's just the building. ._.

I think that's one of the main issues of the game. I have liked the 50+ hours I've put into it so far, I won't deny. But it feels a bit too uninspired, like a modded older Fallout game. All Bethesda did was implement mods into the core game mechanics . It's more or less Bethesda half-assing their way into a 4th Fallout. Sadly that's what they've been doing a lot lately, with the glaring exception of Doom.

Here is my take on this, Fallout 4 was an "OK" game. By that i mean its gameplay was pretty good by my means and had alright charterer development and story line, nothing special. On the other end of the spectrum was Fallout New Vegas which was an amazing game. It had FARR superior character development and immersion compared with 4. You actually had a connection with your character The Courier and the struggle throughout the wasteland to seek revenge to the man that tried to kill you. The gameplay was VERY good combined with the western feel of the game made it that much more atmospheric and drew you into the game. Overall the hype train that Fallout 4 had behind it that caused the game to not live up to the expectations that where drawn from how encapsulating Fallout New Vegas was.

The things that made the game somewhat enjoyable was in fact that there was customization of building and fortifying the settlements to give some aspect of sustainability and flavor to the game. The combat was improved i would say but i love the charm the older fallout combat styles have imo.

FO4 is the epitome of one step forward 2 steps back. It stepped forward in greatly improving the gunplay but it took two steps back in gutting the RPG elements.

I wouldn't say the gunplay was "greatly improved". Yeah it looks smoother and a little more punchy. But it creates a disconnect due to how weak guns are unless you specifically get perks for it. Its the classic "bullet sponge" dilemma of looter shooters. Awesome looking guns, shit damage output. New Vegas did it best despite having worse gunplay. Recoil and weapon sway was heavily determined by the STR and Skill requirements of the weapon, respectively. Yes, damage also increased as Skills increased. But damage was already relatively high for many weapons and the addition of different ammo types like AP and HP rounda made dealing armored enemies and high health-unarmored enemies easier.

I think the only real strength of fallout 4 is the crafting.... and even that's kind of weak without mods All you can really do is add a barrel, a stock, a suppressor, a receiver that somehow makes the gun automatic and decreases damage without changing the ammo type, a grip or maybe even a little bayonet

Fallout 4 is the worst fallout game, and the worst Bethesda game. This is coming from someone who enjoyed Skyrim for about 600 or so hours (as opposed to my 30 with FO4). Bethesda took it way too far with the dumbing down and bad gameplay mechanics. I seriously hope they learn from it, and take some advice from a developer who did it WAY better (obsidian).

Xmayne Yeah I agree. The biggest dumbed down feature was imo swearing and difficulty. Did you notice how even fucking raiders don't swear at all, don't get me started with your own character. And the game is very easy. Even survival is way to easy after a couple hours. My problem is that Bethesda made Fallout 4 family friendly to get attention from 10 year olds.

Yeah. I mean the sheer amount of stimpaks you get is insane. Healing is *way* too easy. And the new radiation system is lame, too. Another dumbed down thing. The game doesn't really improve on anything from New Vegas, either. It just has...better graphics...and I guess better gunplay? None of that really matters though if the rest of your game is an absolute snoozefest. Not to mention the whole weapon modding bullshit. "Whoa dude there are so many combinations with the new weapon modding!" In actuality, it's damn shallow. It's essentially just ugly pipe guns *everywhere*, then a few of the Fallout classics like the 10mm pistol. New Vegas has a way larger and more varied gun selection. And don't even get me started on the perk system. I don't know WHY they thought that just shoving everything into a perk chart is somehow more "cool" and "innovative." It's clunky as shit and makes no sense. Having the Skills be their own separate thing is way more organized and infinitely cooler. But Bethesda's idea of improving their games in sequels is just "lol why don't we just remove shit???? xDDDDD!!" Whoa.............so innovative, man. I guess Bethesda only cares about catering to neanderthals? Because that's essentially what this game is designed for. It's basic as fuck.

Fallout 4's greatest strength: load times. It's really good at taking time to load. I got it as a gift so I played it, of my ~100 hours logged probably half of it was the game loading, or the game just sitting idle there cause I wandered off while it was loading.

I was extremely disappointed in fallout 4 since I expected my mind to be blown and have endless hours of fun but it was mediocre-ish my problem wasn't it being unfinished or glitches or anything like that but it wasn't as interesting like other fallout games if not for the previous fallout games I would say a a not bad game but having played new vegas it was like taking a sword to the guts and remember the trailer I was expecting improved things but they stepped back on skill and perk systems and it became even less of an RPG and even closer to an FPS.
