As a 62 year old machinist I never thought I'd spend so much time watching another machinist.....but this is good stuff, I've built a few engines and always like to learn. Thx again brother

Thanks for the machinist blue on the cam.....it really brought out what you are doing. Good video. I would appreciate some explanations concerning the reduction in base circle size and how it affects geometry. I'm still learning.

That is really cool to see the process of fixing the cams that had bad lobes in them.

It's amazing how little force it takes to bend or straighten a camshaft. I bought a SBF cam on Amazon from Comp cams recently for around a hundred bucks. Right after my purchase the price for that cam went back to normal price. The packaging condition indicated it had been returned previous to my purchase. It set it on some V blocks and it was out about .005 A couple gentle thumps with a plastic dead blow hammer brought it within to .0005. Thanks for your content 😊

I bought a SBF Comp 255 DEH for a song off Amazon, it arrived in perfect condition and is running great. I think I paid $115 for that one they had two left.

Yes thanks for the bluing, and can you explain how you dress the stone for a rough cut or finishing cut. Or do you change stones? Finally, Is the stone ground with any angle to help rotate the lifters on non roller cams?

I love this content because basically I know nothing about machine work. When you regrind a cam to remove a defect do you grind all the lobes the same amount to make them uniform?
@powellmachineinc2 ай бұрын
Yes

Can you explain rough dress and finish dress on the wheel?
@427_FE2 ай бұрын
That was cool, how often do you have to dress that stone? They must be a small fortune nowadays
@powellmachineinc2 ай бұрын
Twice per camshaft, once to rough grind and once to finish

PM, do you weld cams or send them out for that? Also can a flat tappet be repaired? I know you hate flat tappets, this is for motorcycle engines that run on buckets.
@powellmachineinc2 ай бұрын
I weld in house, yes, they can be repaired

Can you or will you change the distributor cam gear on a sbf hyd. roller I believe it is a comp cam. You've talked about this before, I can't remember which video it was on. May have bin sbc.

Im just wondering if you had a master plate made for a clockwise rotating cam and you used it to grind a counter clockwise cam by flipping it over , would it still grind an accurate lobe or would you need a whole new master.
@powellmachineinc2 ай бұрын
Yep, that's how we do flathead ford's and most diesels

I'd like to see how you come up with your cam cut blanks you use on the cam grinding machine. I mean, unless that's like a trade secret type deal, then never mind lol. I'm not sure what's company secrets and what.
@powellmachineinc2 ай бұрын
You mean master plates?
@GrandPitoVic2 ай бұрын
@powellmachineinc3179 YES sir. I wasn't sure what they were called. But not if that's a trade secret.

It just makes me cringe Watching you regrond a cam That is going to destroy the performance of that engine Because I am THE CAMSHAFT WISPERR.😂😂😂😂 that's right I used 2R's because nonlage is power. Your not even using the 4city block corner method.
