I'm a big enough fan that I went through all the original videos, averaged all the hit percentages that the game reported to Pat, and then compared them to his actual hit percentage. Believe it or not, he actually hit a few percentage points higher than the game told him he would (like 72% vs. 70%). XCom has this big psychological effect because it creates so much anxiety and raises the stakes so high that you feel like you're owed every 70% shot, because that's "probably" going to hit. But if every 70% shot hit, it'd be 100%. Nearly 1 out of 3 have to miss for that stat to be accurate. But everyone feels cheated when that one shot misses.

True, it would reduce Avatar Project Progress by 1 pip, but it would max out again very shortly afterward, and there would be no further accessible avenues to stop the countdown. This campaign was probably past the point of being salvageable by the end of March.

For people in the comments who have an impression that the game is unfair - it's really not. Pat just made a bunch of bad decisions, and then switched to high-risk strategies that predictably failed. If you want to have a better impression of what the game is, check out Beagle or literally anyone who isn't Pat. Yeah, sometimes you'll miss that 90% shot. The key to winning in XCOM is that you have to be prepared for that. And the game gives you a bunch of ways to do that.

There are a few things about the game that really are a bit unfair. The randomiser for shot percentages is often misleading at best (seriously, if you're at point blank range, literally one space away from an enemy, gun barrel pressed into their forehead, you should never, EVER miss), and there were points in this video where the game just didn't process properly. Not to absolve General Pattron here of all responsibility for his 'tactical genius', but in fairness, at least SOME of the clusterfucks weren't entirely self-inflicted.

I just tried playing through LW2 and oh man is it ever a departure for vanilla XCOM2. You're absolutely right, by comparison the vanilla game is almost insultingly shallow. dude, get it Its REALLY not as hard as pat makes it out to be, specially if you are playing on normal or easy and savescumming IS a viable strategy, even recommended for first timers who are having a particularly hard time with stuff. there are 2 awesome dlc for it (well, 2 dlc that matter, there is a third one that is only cosmetic stuff that is... not that good) and has an expansion coming that will add TONS of stuff there is no better time to get it.
